Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front: We celebrated Kyle's birthday on Sunday then I had various taxi jobs shuttling people to app'ts this past week and got the grocery shopping done (in the rain) on Thursday morning. And then...Hurricane Michael roared through here Thursday afternoon and fucked everything up. See Touching Nature below. I just want to take 10 ibuprofen and sleep for 100 days.
Touching Nature: Hurricane Michael sucks ass. Or rather blew some serious farts out his ass because we got hammered by hellacious winds as he sped through, probably laughing uproariously as he went. We have weathered some pretty hairy storms here in our house, in the woods, in the 18 yrs we've lived here. But this was like nothing we've seen. We are surrounded by mostly 100+' trees and they were nearly bending in half in the gusts we got. At times, the tops were even going in circles! It was scary as fuck and also so bizarre. The gusts would come and scare us, then it would get calm, then it would do it all over again. This went on for over 2 hrs. Luckily none of the trees fell on the house which is what I was most worried about. However, one of those 100+' trees uprooted and landed a foot away from the shed, right along the length, taking out the top of the tree next to it. So glad hubby took his truck to work, because if he had taken the Accord, his truck would have been in the crush zone. Big whew! When it was all over, that's when the power went out. Seriously. And it was out 27 hrs for us. Remember I said I had gone grocery shopping? Yeah. Fun. Good thing we have a big ass cooler. I found a store with ice and put the most perishable of the perishables in the big & small coolers and then put ice in our two fridges because they can act like their own cooler since they are insulated. There was leafy debris everywhere, so we spent Friday cleaning off the big shed (not the little shed where the tree is) and the house roofs, picking up big limbs from the yard, blowing small debris out to the woods (omfg, I fucking LOVE my new Husqvarna backpack blower, thank you honey!) and starting to cut up the tree. Yesterday was more of the same. Not done with the tree yet, but hubby could only take off Friday (he works 2nd shift) so he was back to work yesterday and will be going again this afternoon after we cut up more of the tree. Slowly but surely we're getting it cleaned up. I'm going to be burning brush (when it dries out enough) for some time. At least we have hardwood for the fireplace next year, after it's had time to season. Also, Michael ushered in some seriously rockin' Fall weather, 60s during the day and 40s at night. No more heat/humidity and the bugs seem to have mostly disappeared. Finally! Silver linings and all that shit.
Book News: So, I'm working on my NetGalley November books which means I have no posts/reviews ready for the next 2 weeks. I also currently have 7 reviews to write. Hoping to get to those this week.
Don't Touch That Dial!: Hubby & I are 1.5 episodes away from finishing CSI. We'll then go back to NCIS. Or maybe we should finally finish Longmire first. Hmmm... The Indians blew it against the Astros in the playoffs, so Trip & I finished Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then we started & finished a rewatch of The Defenders. We're thinking of doing a rewatch of The Punisher. Daredevil Season 3 comes out the 19th. Woot!
At the Flicks: Venom soon. Most likely this coming weekend.
Cyberspace Playground: Nothing.
Randomness: Two this week because it's been that kind of week these last few days. lol
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Fuck you, weather predictors. You fucking suck. Ok, so that's not actually a nugget of wisdom, but I don't care. lol

Uprooted |
Anna says she liked this tree and can we just get a crane and push it back into place. Um, no. |
That was a close one! |
Luckily, only a few shingles were damaged. |
The shed is barely visible amongst the limbs and branches. |
Progress! Still a lot to go, but at least it's mostly out of our immediate way now. |

Totally agree about the Smart TV. My in-laws are cleaning their yard too, and they just spent time removing loads of trees after the hurricane they had. Happy Birthday to Kyle.
ReplyDeleteTwo hurricanes in a month is bullshit. I hope they get cleaned up fairly quickly. It rained today so we'll have to wait for Tuesday. Hubby has other things he needs to get done tomorrow. Too many things, not enough time.
DeleteHappy Birthday Kyle!!! I hope he had a great day!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to deal with all that. Michael really did turn into a major asshole. Somehow all the amazing weather equipment and they missed that. I wish I could have a job that pays a lot of money and only get my work 50/50.
Potato Chip option should be a thing you might want to call someone about that.
Have a great week, Carol! Happy Reading! ox
I don't know hwy I bother looking at the extended forecast. It's never right.
DeleteEspeically kettle cooked chips! lol
Thanks, Michelle! XOXO
So sorry to hear about all the hurricane damage and the clean up you guys have to do. I hope you got to watch venon. We took the kids and loved it. Happy Birthday to Kyle!
ReplyDeleteWe're still working on the tree, but at least it's out of our way now.
DeleteWe're looking forward to seeing Venom. Glad to hear you loved it. :)
Thank you!
Oh :/ sounds like a tough week and a lot of cleaning for the coming week! Hope you and your family are safe and sound. Hope you find something good amidst all this, have a great week!
