Jim Latimer, recovering alcoholic and former photographer, reads about the suicide of someone from his past and from that moment his life goes careening out of his control. With the help of some unlikely heroes he attempts to break free of his horrifying situation.

Well, this one proved to be hard to rate. It’s decently written, but it drags a bit in spots. At times it’s a bit ridiculous, but overall it’s a compelling read that urged me to keep turning the pages. Told from several POVs, the picture coalesces gradually over the course of the book until the nerve wracking final showdown. Part of the story is set in 1202 and told from the POV of Hugh Apsley, Templar Knight. At first as I was confused why I was reading about this Knight in 1202, but it becomes clear later. I especially like the character of Detective Chief Inspector Susan Harris. She’s a decent person, pragmatic, and no nonsense, but she gets her world view blown away and still keeps on chugging. If you like some mystery mixed in with a paranormal and, at times, very gory story then look no further. This tale satisfies on all fronts.
