--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

To all of my friends who rock at mothering,
no matter whether they tend to human, animal or botanical.

On the Home Front: There are 24 more days of school. Yay! Hubby had a one month follow up app't at the Dr and upon presenting our record of his sugar readings the Dr was extremely pleased. So take that diabetes! Go us! :D

Touching Nature: Rain. Rain. Oh, look! Is that the sun? Psych, more rain.

Book News: I was able to bring my number of books I'm behind down to 10, but with luck it'll drop some more this week. Slowly getting there. Of course, now I have some reviews to write, but I should have those done in the next few days.

Don't Touch That Dial!: I got nothin'.

At the Flicks: Not yet. One more week for us.

Cyberspace Playground: I'll just leave this here. You're welcome. :D
Crazy Old Lady Pranks

Randomness:  When Trump was last one standing...

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Unless you want to get in touch with your inner self (literally) never buy Dollar General brand toilet paper.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

    1. That's right! We bad! :D It helps that it appears having grains doesn't affect his sugar as much as we'd feared. Some people can't have grains at all, like my dad. Today we're going to test pizza dough since it's Mother's Day and I'm not cooking. LOL

    1. They really do! I'm looking forward to reading them. :)

We're very pleased! And relieved. We thought the readings looked good, but it was very nice to see & hear how pleased the Dr was. He said he wishes all his patients who get a diabetes diagnosis would be so proactive.

I'll take some of that sun, please. My plants would thank you if they could talk. :)

I agree on the toilet paper. Some things, cheaper is not the way to go. Unless it's cheap *and* good. lol

    1. We're doing pretty good for it only being a month. Just need to work exercise into the plan. But as the Dr said, this is a long haul thing. We don't have to try to make all the changes at once, but he's happy with the ones we have done so far. :)

As far as tips go, we're finding that everyone is different. My dad can't have grains of any kind and some starches too (like potatoes) since they spike his sugar. My husband has been ok with grains and french fries. He's also 40 yrs younger than my dad, not overweight and active. It makes a big difference.

My main tips to give you for your mom are this:
      1. watch serving sizes. That's the one thing that was hard to do. Serving sizes are way smaller than you'd think. lol
      2. Make your carbs count. Which means cutting out things high in sugar that give you little return. Sugary drinks (like pop), dessert & snack foods, candy bars, etc etc. He switched to artifical sweetener for things like coffee and tea, we bought sparkling water at Dollar General that's fizzy, tasty and has 0 carbs and when he wants a pop we bought Diet Pepsi which is also aspartame free.

There isn't much he doesn't like, so he can fill half his plate with "free" foods/carbs, like salad, and nearly any kind of veggie. Fruits are trickier because they're higher in carbs. He has 3 meals a day and has carb snacks about every 2 hrs or his medicine makes his sugar dip too low. It's all trial and error really and we're still tweaking his meals. Hope this helps. If you have questions feel free to email me. :)

  9. I got Ghost Squad and Greensmith Girls last week too. Don't you love those covers:) Way to go on the diabetes. And good for you on catching up with your books. I write 8 reviews this weekend and that caught me up and got me a little ahead. Happy Mother's Day to you also!
