--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!
Touching Nature: Rain. Rain. Oh, look! Is that the sun? Psych, more rain.
Book News: I was able to bring my number of books I'm behind down to 10, but with luck it'll drop some more this week. Slowly getting there. Of course, now I have some reviews to write, but I should have those done in the next few days.
Don't Touch That Dial!: I got nothin'.
At the Flicks: Not yet. One more week for us.
Cyberspace Playground: I'll just leave this here. You're welcome. :D
Randomness: When Trump was last one standing...
To all of my friends who rock at mothering,
On the Home Front: There are 24 more days of school. Yay! Hubby had a one month follow up app't at the Dr and upon presenting our record of his sugar readings the Dr was extremely pleased. So take that diabetes! Go us! :DTouching Nature: Rain. Rain. Oh, look! Is that the sun? Psych, more rain.

ReplyDeleteHave a great week and Happy Reading!!
Thank you! We're very happy to know what we're doing is working. :) Now, just need to work exercise into the plan.

Week in Review
That's right! We bad! :D It helps that it appears having grains doesn't affect his sugar as much as we'd feared. Some people can't have grains at all, like my dad. Today we're going to test pizza dough since it's Mother's Day and I'm not cooking. LOL
DeleteSevered Relations and Hostile Witness both look good.
ReplyDeleteWell done (to you and hubby) on the blood sugar readings! You must both be pleased!
They really do! I'm looking forward to reading them. :)
DeleteWe're very pleased! And relieved. We thought the readings looked good, but it was very nice to see & hear how pleased the Dr was. He said he wishes all his patients who get a diabetes diagnosis would be so proactive.
Congrats on improving the sugar counts!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books...I am tempted by a few of these; I especially like the look of Hostile Witness.
Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Thank you! :)
DeleteI haven't read Rebecca Forster yet, but her books look good. I can't wait to read them.
Hey great job on the sugar readings. It rained here a bit but then got nice... finally! Sun! what is that? I almost forgot... love those Randomness quotes! lol
ReplyDeleteThank you! :) So, you're the one who stole the sun? *taps foot* lol But seriously, we don't need more rain and it looks like it's supposed to do just that Weds afternoon into Fri morn. Gah! My plants were doing so well, too!
DeleteAwesome job on the sugar! Today it finally stopped raining. YAY!
ReplyDeleteDollar Brand TP is murder on your bottom.
Have a great week, Carol! Happy Mom's Day and Happy Reading! ox
Thanks! :D We haven't had any rain today either. Yay! But Weds afternoon into Fri morn is looking like more of the wet stuff. Grrr!
DeleteHappy Mom's Day to you too! Enjoy BEA you harpy. lololol xoxox
happy mother's day to you! Glad to hear your husband is doing so well with his diabetes and the doctor was pleased, that sounds positive!
ReplyDeleteWe had no rain at all here this week. We had a lot of sun, ll do my best to send some sun to you ;).
I always avoid the cheapest toilet paper as often they aren't good, just no.
Hope you'll have a great week!
We were so happy that he was happy. lol
DeleteI'll take some of that sun, please. My plants would thank you if they could talk. :)
I agree on the toilet paper. Some things, cheaper is not the way to go. Unless it's cheap *and* good. lol
Congrats on the success over diabetes!!! My mom actually just found out she may be diabetic last week. Any tips you can share would be great :)
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your reads and happy mother's day to you!!
Quite a Novel Idea
We're doing pretty good for it only being a month. Just need to work exercise into the plan. But as the Dr said, this is a long haul thing. We don't have to try to make all the changes at once, but he's happy with the ones we have done so far. :)
DeleteAs far as tips go, we're finding that everyone is different. My dad can't have grains of any kind and some starches too (like potatoes) since they spike his sugar. My husband has been ok with grains and french fries. He's also 40 yrs younger than my dad, not overweight and active. It makes a big difference.
My main tips to give you for your mom are this:
1. watch serving sizes. That's the one thing that was hard to do. Serving sizes are way smaller than you'd think. lol
2. Make your carbs count. Which means cutting out things high in sugar that give you little return. Sugary drinks (like pop), dessert & snack foods, candy bars, etc etc. He switched to artifical sweetener for things like coffee and tea, we bought sparkling water at Dollar General that's fizzy, tasty and has 0 carbs and when he wants a pop we bought Diet Pepsi which is also aspartame free.
There isn't much he doesn't like, so he can fill half his plate with "free" foods/carbs, like salad, and nearly any kind of veggie. Fruits are trickier because they're higher in carbs. He has 3 meals a day and has carb snacks about every 2 hrs or his medicine makes his sugar dip too low. It's all trial and error really and we're still tweaking his meals. Hope this helps. If you have questions feel free to email me. :)
I got Ghost Squad and Greensmith Girls last week too. Don't you love those covers:) Way to go on the diabetes. And good for you on catching up with your books. I write 8 reviews this weekend and that caught me up and got me a little ahead. Happy Mother's Day to you also!
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
I do! And I'm looking forward to reading them.
DeleteThanks! :D
Take that, diabetes! Such great news! As for the books, I'm ahead according to Goodreads, but behind according to my upcoming tours. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteWe were doing a happy dance. :D Hmmmm...were you bychance reading other books? I do it all the time. ;)
