Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front:  Mowed last Sunday. I came in and my shoes & socks were so wet my feet were pruny. Gross. I spent a lot of time on the computer this week. Grocery pick up at various stores on Thursday. Started the Saturday cleaning and first weekend of the month cleaning on Friday since there was a lot I wanted to do. Finished up Saturday late afternoon then worked on this post. I intend to read as much as possible Sunday then make Mississippi pot roast in my Instant Pot for dinner.

Touching Nature: Hot, humid, rainy, gross. I mowed last Sunday even though I was going to wait. Since rain was forecasted for Monday I decided to get it done. It was tall and wet. Took forever.

Book News: Not a lot of progress on this front. I'm working on a couple of books for tours and I finished an audiobook.

Don't Touch That Dial!: In season 6 of Burn Notice. Nearly done with rewatch of Bones. Started watching Criminal Minds again. lol I don't think I ever finished my rewatch of Cold Case. Nothing is really holding my attention.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I've shared this before but it's worth a repeat: when you remove your laundry from the washer, shake it out before putting in the dryer. Things dry faster if they aren't all wadded up together.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. With the medical appts, I can barely get through normal stuff, much less anything extra. This week will be more of the same but then I'm hoping for a little break. I don't like the hot but the wet is cooling things down a bit. But the grass is so high again already.

  3. OMG is THAT why we shake out the sheets and stuff before we put them in the dryer? I remember asking my mom why we do that and she shrugged and said "We just do" and something about wrinkles and I've never cared if my sheets had a wrinkle here or there so I haven't been shaking them out first!!!! Guess I will now.

Also, what did people do about their yards in the days before mowers? Did they just let them grow wild? My Mom's yard in Arkansas had to be mowed every 2-3 weeks and I never could see the point of it. "Just let it grow and be natural" I would say. Nope. Had to be mowed. Why though????? It just dies and goes brown in the winter anyway.

Never could understand the raking of leaves, either. Whenever there was a high wind it would blow all the leaves into the woods so why not just wait and let the wind do the work?

Yes I know...I'm a dumb City Child. LOL

    1. My mom taught me to shake out the clothes to help them dry faster. She also said if I was in a hurry when making mashed potatoes, to cut them up in smaller pieces so they cook faster.

Well, there were those nifty non-electric mowers, with just the sharp blades that turned. Or maybe they had a goat or sheep? lol

I have a backpack blower I use to blow the leaves into the woods. I have to. We're surrounded by trees and in the Fall we get buried in leaves. They're slippery so I just blow them back. Plus, it's kinda fun. lol

  4. I've been playing a lot of word games on my phone lately too. I like Wordle, but my current favorites are Quartiles (on Apple) and Connections (on NYT). I'm kind of obsessed!

    1. I'll have to check those out. My daughter had me download Finch, so I've been doing that daily.

  5. It looks like you have had a busy and productive week. My family love Mississippi pot roast. We like spice, so we add hotter peppers. So good.

    1. It's so good! We like it with rice, but I sometimes make wide egg noodles to go with it.
