AVR News Update
Our weather has been all over the place this week. First, we were hot and humid, then it was an abso-fucking-lutely gorgeous sunny and 70s and now it's cool and rainy. Mother Nature, you need to really get your shit together.

School starts in one week and I haven't bought one single school supply or item of clothing for the kids, but Thursday we're planning to get it all done. Freshman Orientation is Tuesday and 8th grade Open House is Thursday evening. I have no idea when Open House or whatever they call it for Juniors is since they haven't bothered to send out any letters and there's nothing on the website. Ah, joy.

I've been busy reorganizing my Excel Review spreadsheets and they're really starting to shape up and make more sense now that I don't have everything listed on one worksheet. So much easier to find shit when I have multiple tabs. Yeah, it took me awhile, but I hate change.

You may have noticed (or not) that I've added Bloglovin' for those who want to follow that way. I'll be visiting everyone today and following if you have it.

Lastly, Grand Central Forever Yours auto-approved me on NetGalley and I have exerted commendable willpower to restrain myself. *sheepish look* I've also got some yummylicious-looking books coming all the way from Sweetmeats Press (Mature Adults~18+) in London and some audiobooks coming from Macmillan Audio. I'll share those on my Shelf Additions when they actually arrive.

AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  3. Congrats on your auto-approval! I haven't ventured onto NetGalley.

I'm envious of you having reorganized your excel spreadsheet. I add my books to a spreadsheet, but I'm not very good with excel so my efforts to tweak it don't work so well. :(

Good luck with school starting! Have a good reading week.

    1. NetGalley is book crack. LOL

I'm still working on them and while I'm no expert (took a computer class back in 2003), they're finally taking shape. :)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I track my reading and reviews on excel too and using different tabs rocks :-) So easy to figure out what I need to read and how big of a mess I'm in regarding backlogs :O
    Yay, auto approval! Enjoy :-)

  5. Ok get ready for a long comment - there's just so much to say :-) LOL

I don't think I've ever noticed where you live on here, but your weather sounds as frustrating as ours in DFW right now! Mother Nature please make up your mind, preferably in the mid 70s, with mild rain in the evenings. Thanks!

Ugh - good luck with all the school stuff. My stepson starts 8th grade this year - his mom is doing half the school shopping and we're doing the other half. Neither of us has started yet - so this will be a fun week. :/ Part of our problem is the school has sent two different lists of required supplies that are entirely different, so I know what you mean about the frustrating communication from schools...

I'm super curious about your excel spreadsheets - what do you track on there? I just use goodreads, Shelfari, and lots of finger crossing. Probably could use a better method, but I'm so new to blogging I haven't even thought about it until now.

Congrats on the auto approve and maybe even bigger congrats on the restraint! Love some of those books you've added this week too - the covers of Fearless, The Film Student and Me, and Death's Lover have me going to goodreads to add them ASAP. And Naked Sushi - ok that's too good to be true!! LOL

Sorry I wrote a book... I just had too much to say! Have a great week :-)

    1. LOL! I live in NC, so the weather is supposed to be fairly mild. Mother Nature has apparently thrown out the manual.

School shopping will be done on Thurs and I will cross my fingers that we will do it all in one shot.

I had one sheet that just listed the books as I got them by date. Then it grew too unwieldy, so I decided it was time to divide everyone out into their own tabs. I have a tab just for indie authors now and then I have tabs for various publishers, print books, NetGalley, books won, my Friday Featured posts and some others. It's so much easier to just click a tab and see where I'm at. Plus, I bought a monthly planner because I like something physical in my hands I can just flip open and see what's what.

I have very little restraint when it comes to books, so I was proud of myself. And I agree about Naked Sushi. I was like...what?? Must have! LOL

No worries! Thanks and have a great week, too!

  6. Oh you did have fun on NetGalley. That place is worse than a candy store! :D Congrats on the auto-approval from Forever Yours!

I'm also curious about your spreadsheets. I tried using them when I first started blogging but they didn't work for me.

    1. NetGalley is book crack for me. I'm falling behind and need to make a few days NetGalley days to get caught up.

I'm sure I'm under utilizing Excel because I had a computer class way back in 2003 and don't remember much, but this new way seems to be working so far. I still need to transfer some books to their new tabs, but for the most part I'm done. Everyone has various ways they keep track. I'm sure I'll find something different one day, but for now I'll stick with this. lol

      Thanks for stopping by! :)

I have all the school shopping to do, too. I'm taking all three of my kids out Wednesday for clothes and supplies. Should be loads of fun - not. LOL.

    1. Auto Approval is great! I like knowing I don't have to wait and if I see something I like I can just add it to my sheets right then.

Thurs is our day. Yeah...fun...lol Good luck!

  10. I am an auto-approved for them and others..and yes we need to use control. I spoke to someone on facebook yesterday and was aghast when they told me they accept every book from their "approved publisher". and I was all like how do you review that many? Well apparently she doesn't...but I am old school and if you give me a book...well I try to read and review it! LOL Enjoy your week my friend and I hope the weather makes up its mind!

    1. I've also got approval for a few others and the level of restraint is mind boggling. lol

O.O Every book? No, I can't do that. I read the blurb and if it sounds good I'll add it. I try to go by my gut. If I hesitate after reading the blurb I usually pass. Not always, but usually. If I accept a book then I will read it. It may take me awhile, but I will get to it as quickly as possible.

I hope the weather does, too. Thanks for stopping by! :)

    1. It is a nice cover. I haven't read Alice since I was a kid. I reviewed a steampunk Alice called 'Gears of Wonderland' and it made me want to revisit her.

I never thought to name my Fire until I saw other people naming their Kindles. lol There are some good ones out there.

  14. I recently read Hold Me Closer, Necromancer and I really really liked it! I hope you like it as much as I did :D I'm looking forward to reading the next book.. the sucky thing is there's really no word on when the third book (or any of the others) are coming out in the series.. so I've been holding off on reading it even though I really want to!

Haha do you happen to live in Michigan? Michigan weather is so crazy, we have a saying here "Don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes." :D

    Have a great week!

  19. Congrats on the auto approval! It's so hard to refrain from downloading all of the books once you get it, lol. 1. Thanks! Great restraint has been shown. I deserve a medal or something. LOL

The weather has really been messed up. My own personal view is the Industrial Age has really screwed the weather patterns (as well as many other things). It's going to take a long time to repair the damage we (as in humans) did (and still do, to be frank) in our ignorance or willful stubbornness. Oops. Need to step off my soapbox. lol

      Thanks for stopping by! :)

  20. Nice haul! Congratulations on the auto-approval. I enjoyed your Time Turner review; McCaffrey remains one of my favorite authors. Have you read the tribute to her, Dragonwriter? If you're a fan of hers, you would probably enjoy it. (I reviewed it last week.)

  21. Using a planner for my reviews helps with going crazy on Netgalley because I see what books I already agreed to review. This helps me keep it realistic about how much time I actually have to read and write reviews before I go to crazy. Plus, actually tackling the books I already own is a priority right now.

Hope you get everything finished for back to school, it can be so stressful and there is always so much to do.
