Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front:

Sunday ~ I really need to remember to update this post daily until Saturday evening. I did strip Anna's bed and her bunkbed and washed all her bedstuff. She had spent the night at her sister's place Saturday night and didn't get back until late afternoon. But I told her she had to remake her bed since I washed her stuff. I did help though so it didn't take as long.

Monday ~ Looked like rain so the contractor delayed the framers until Tuesday. I got caught up on some computer stuff. I'm procrastinating doing my taxes. Trip and I went to Walmart to pick up 2 small air conditioners and a couple of fans since the forecast is showing upper 80s for several days later this week. We will not have A/C for a few more weeks. I get one window unit in my bedroom and the boys get one in theirs. Anna and Mr. Puggles will sleep with me when it's too hot. Luckily, temps are supposed to drop again after Sunday.

Tuesday ~ Framers came and got the porch nearly done. No deck boards yet, steps, or railings. The contractor wants to wait until most of the other work is nearly done so the guys aren't tracking mud on the porch. There's plywood down so we can at least walk to the blocks we're using as steps for now. I'll take it.

Wednesday ~ Framers and roofers here today. Wow. So much noise. It sounds like Santa's reindeer are doing a drunken Riverdance on the roof. lol Framers finished the porch and moved to the back while the roofers got started ripping off the old shingles. The shingles are now 25 yrs this year so I figured I might as well replace them with 35 year shingles since they would be shingling the new additions, porch, and 6' of roof over the back deck. These guys are so fast! But of course they are because they are specialized.  I left in the morning to get my hair cut off, but the stylist didn't show up so I left and went to Great Clips. I got lucky and ended up with a stylist there who is very very good. She took my vague description and gave me a cut I love. Well, except for that fucking postmenopausal cowlick in my bangs. I've always had a little one, but now it's fucking ridiculous. Fuck you, Ma Nature! Anyway, thanks, Jennifer! She recommended training my bangs by clipping them to where I want them to go, but right now that seems like too much effort. Maybe later. In the afternoon, the roofer had some concerns about my two skylights. I had them replaced right after Covid and the supply chain was fubar. So I had to get ones without tint (not the concern) and no flashing kit (big concern) because the south facing one was leaking bad and I couldn't wait any longer to get the job done. He said the installer did a great job, but he doesn't like shingling skylights without a flashing kit. The possibility of leaks in the future is too great. I told the contractor to check for tinted ones and he found them in stock. Yay! So I approved the purchase of two skylights (and flashing kits) to replace the ones I had done in 2021. Everyone is happy. Except my wallet. lol I'll hang on to the "old" skylights. Maybe when I build a chicken house I can use them there. lmao

Thursday ~ Looked like rain all damn day. The framers did come and got a fair amount done on the living room addition even when it started spitting out a bit. Dropped Trip at Kyleigh's soccer game and Anna joined them after her app't ended at 6:00 and brought him home.

Friday ~ Roofers, framers, and contractor all here today jockeying for parking spots. It is very noisy out. The roofers got most of the backside of the roof done and the living room addition. They are now waiting for the framers to finish Anna's room addition and the 6' roof for the back deck since the framers finished the living room addition by 5:30. After that the framers will put in the deck joists, roof, and steps, but no deck boards yet. Just some plywood until the job is mostly complete so they don't leave muddy prints on new deck boards. I'm fine with that. The contractor installed the stair riser for the porch and put temporary boards on it so we would have a sturdy step down. All is moving along pretty good. Too bad it's supposed to rain Monday. However, the rain will bring the temps down since it got up to 84º in the house. Ugh

That blue truck belongs to the roofers and it does something super cool. The bed lifts up, up, UP so they can get the bundles of shingles off and onto the roof! Hang on, let me find the pic...

Saturday ~ Trip and Anna went to the Easter Egg festivities with 2 of the grandkiddos at the wasband's workplace and I stopped at Subway for sammies for today since I am most definitely not cooking. Then Anna and I went to Greensboro for the #HandsOff protest. What a great turn out and so much energy! If you think you're alone and shouting into the void then looking at all the social media posts from across the country should reassure you that you are definitely not alone. People are pissed and when Americans get pissed their opposition better watch out. The people who have been elected to represent us had better start doing their jobs or they will be replaced. Have no doubts about that. Came home and did the cleaning, but before I was finished my stepson and his fam stopped by so Timothy could replace the sway bars in my Pilot. I warned him it was hot in the house with no A/C, but that didn't seem to bother Lori (almost 3) or Noah (almost 1). After they left I finished the cleaning, took a cold shower, and ate half of my Subway sammie. It is 86º in the house. So fucking miserable. I'll be going to bed soon so I can sleep in the air conditioning. My tiny window unit is working overtime. I must note that Kyle is allergic to every pollen Ma Nature has invented so with the windows open and approximately 100 fans going he is extremely miserable even with allergy meds. These are trying times but luckily only temporary.

Today I want to relax but that probably won't happen. Maybe in the morning I'll pack up a few small boxes of Anna's tiny trinkets from her room. As it gets hotter I'll probably just sit and melt. The rain can't come fast enough to cool us the fuck down. Actually, I'm going to ask the boys if they want to move their table and computers to their room ahead of schedule so they can be cooler and no pollen even if they will be cramped. We'll have to move them in a few weeks anyway because where they are now will have part of the wall removed for the entrance to the new living room.

Touching Nature: Nice then hot and humid which sucks because we still don't have A/C (new heat pump) yet.

Book News: Not much to report here. Except someone keeps adding audiobooks from Chirp. Oh, wait. That would be me. Oops.

Don't Touch That Dial!:  I started rewatching The Mandalorian while eating in the evening then turning it off again.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Joy can also be thwarting the oligarchy. Just sayin'.

  1. Contractors around is so stressful! Hope the end is in sight for you. I would love some skylights, though.. And thwarting the oligarchy would be SO joyful!!

  3. The construction is so exciting. I am Kyle with the pollen allergies. I am also you, Carol with the cowlick so I don't have bangs anymore and I pull my hair back nearly all the time. That started when I wanted to keep all my hair out of my face for many reasons including when it would blow around while I was on the Harley. I also have a Chirp addiction but am mostly doing the freebies first. This week should be cool and dry after Monday's rain.
