Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ Did some laundry, vacuumed the floor, cleaned up all the pollen that blew in one living room window (it was a fuckton - yikes!), emptied the compost can, made iced tea, died because it was 87º in the house.
Monday ~ Rained all day. Sometimes light, sometimes heavy. I had to move my rain gauge from it's spot before all of the activity started so I don't know how accurate it is, but it registered 2". Seems like it may have been a bit more, but it's probably close. Temps dropped considerably. Thank the Book Gods. Went to the podiatrist to find out why my heel is trying to kill me with pain. Turns out it's plantar fasciitis. I've had that shit before and back in 2003 had surgery on both feet to correct it. But that was in my arches. This is just my right heel. So meds to get rid of the inflammation, a cortisone shot, and a brace to wear. We'll see how it goes from there. Did mine and the wasband's joint taxes. Did Kyle's taxes. Now I just need to do Anna's.
Tuesday ~ Woke up to cool temps. Beautiful! Framers and roofers here today. Roofers are chasing the framers. Framers are staying ahead, barely. Everyone is so fast and efficient! Anna's addition is complete and they are working on the 6' of roof over where the new deck will be. The roof will cover my existing back door (so fucking happy about having cover from the rain after 25 yrs yay!) and will cover half of the patio door to the new living room - the half that opens. I made it very clear to the window guy that the opening needs to be under the roof. lol Closed all windows before going to bed and remembered to unhook the outside hose. I also turned all the fans off and turned down the ceiling fans. So happy not to be cooking in our skins right now. Ma Nature sure has seasoned us enough. Fuck all this pollen. Took Sugarcube to the vet for a wellness in the morning then Kyle had dental after work. It seems like I never have time to smell the roses, so to speak.
Wednesday ~ Woke up to 32º outside and 64º inside. I refuse to turn on the heat. lol However, I did turn the fan off on the furnace. Framers here to to finish the roof over the deck and move the skylight in the kids bathroom. The new roof (for some reason they call it a shed roof) went right over it so they lifted it up to the new roof. If that makes sense. It's in the same spot, it just has a deeper well to it that the contractor will need to put up some trim on the inside when they are doing the finishing work. Then the roofers came after lunch and finished shingling what was left to shingle and installed my new skylights. I gotta tell you, it looks fucking fantastic! The framers had to take off but will be back tomorrow to finish their part. All that's left is the back deck. In the morning, Trip and I ran Anna's meds to her (that she forgot), picked up boxes at Lowe's, ran the Pilot through the car wash, and got groceries at Food Lion.
The entire roof looks fucking fantastic! So very pleased with it!
And they are 35 year shingles. Yay!
Thursday ~ Did Anna's taxes. Framers here to finish back deck. Dumpster was picked up to be dumped and returned. Temps still lovely and cool, but rain is moving in again. Framer's finished late afternoon and cleaned up about an hour before the rain started. The deck is framed with steps, but not finished. There are OSB boards on it so we can walk across it so, of course, I took the tension rods and caution hanky out of the back doorway and we went to check out the new additions. I can't wait until everything is done! I'm really starting to feel the pressure to get Anna's room packed up and where the boys use their computers. We will need to make a serious dent on that this weekend and following week. I also need to get Jess's stuff out of the Pack Rat, so we have room to put our stuff. Hopefully we'll get that done soon. The stars aren't aligning on that front as fast as I'd hoped. The contractor said the "heavy lifting" is done. Now it's on to the interior before the final finish of the outside (siding, gutters, porch, deck, etc).
Friday ~ Rain, rain, rain. All day rain. Trip and I made a BJ's and Food Lion run. I forgot to get a few things the other day then realized chuck roast was on sale, so I had to get some to freeze for Mississippi Pot Roast. The shit sucker came to pump the porta potty. Otherwise, a quiet day. I fell asleep on the couch, woke up around 9:00pm, and went to bed after doing the usual evening chores. My usual routine is turning on the dishwasher, getting the dogs' Kongs ready with peanut butter (while Anna does Artemis's eye drops and takes them out to go potty), feeding the cats then doing my own routine of tooth brushing, face washing, cleaning my new ear piercings, etc. So, when I say I went to bed, it's actually always like 30 minutes later. lol
Saturday ~ Cool and wet. Cleaning day. Jess came by to pick up the last of her stuff from inside the house. Anna and I started on her room and made a biggish dent. My daughter is a hoarder. I am not even kidding. I don't know how many plastic bags I put in the plastics recycling. Most were empty or had some trash in them. Many had small items from various shopping trips that she just tossed into a corner. We rooted out all her plushy type things and boxed them up. She has a lot of small stuff and a lot of candy. Good lort. We'll need to do another sorting sweep tomorrow, but we are slowly getting there. Her room hasn't had a good clean out since she went to Pigeon Forge and I cleaned her room while she was gone. That was a few years ago. She saves so much stuff! She says it's for her crow journal, but it's a lot. Like A LOT. Anyway, that's a good project for her when her room is complete. We'll actually have a crafting area that she can use, too. So no excuses for not keeping up with it. She and the boys went to see the 7:30pm showing of the Minecraft movie. We don't ever go to evening showings because I like to get in to the first showing (hopefully nearly empty) and get on with my day. Plus, I hate crowds. Anyway, I'm not going, so more power to them. lol
Today In the morning I need to get the Kubota out and fix the driveway from all the rain. Then I'll probably be in the additions trying to get an idea of where to put lights and outlets since the electrician should be coming this week. And I'll measure the living room furniture to get an idea of what it's going to look like. I do know the big ass couch will have to go. We've had it since 2010 and while it's not a complete eyesore, the cats have used it as a scratching post and the springs are so bad I put plywood under the cushions. So, at $200 (it was in the back room, extra discount section, of a discount furniture store lol), I'd say we definitely got our money's worth out of it and I'll put it outside to go to the dump. I do have a couch, loveseat, and mom's recliner plus a glider that's currently in the boys' room, so we should have plenty of seating without that huge monstrosity. Ok, that's kinda mean to the couch that was actually quite comfortable even if it is huge. The width is wider than a normal couch which made for great naps. Jess was sleeping on it because she said the plywood underneath helped her back. But she has a couch and a bed now so she doesn't need it. Plus it weighs a fucking ton.
As for the rest of the week, I think the cabinet guy is coming (to talk about the window seats and under tv storage) as well as the HVAC guy to run ductwork and possibly the wood burning stove guy. At some point soon the guy needs to come and pour my concrete pads for the new heat pump and my generator. Not quite sure the order of operations, but the week is supposed to be nice so yay!
Touching Nature: Been a very nice week. Rain bookended it on Monday and Friday, but in between? Gorgeous Spring weather. Except for that one drop down to 32ºF Tuesday night. Brrrr! But better than cooking in the house.
Book News: Mainly audiobook time this week. My phone told me my storage was nearly full and I couldn't figure it out for quite awhile. I mean, I know I need to move a ton of photos and videos off to the computer and an external drive, but still! Then I noticed my Chirp app was autodownloading my purchases. Gah! I toggled that feature off and removed a ton of books. Much better.
Don't Touch That Dial!: I've been rewatching The Mandalorian. I know what happens in the next episode (in season 2) and I kinda don't want to watch it. But I will.
At the Flicks: Nope. The kids went to see the Minecraft movie Saturday evening. I had no interest in it.
Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.
Randomness: Duuuuude...

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I know people who call other people selfish for taking care of themselves first. Guess what? If you do not take care of yourself first, you cannot take care of anyone else. And for those who try to shame others? Go fuck yourselves then. Remember my lovely peeps (I call you all my peeps because peeps {baby chickens, not those marshmallow monstrosities} are the cutest fucking thing ever): You do not owe anyone your time or attention. I have spoken.
That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

The roof looks great! It's so exciting seeing the progress. This week will have some rain but less than last week I think. I am a big fan of Chirp!
