Hello and Happy Sunday!

Happy New Year!!

On the Home Front: Pretty much just took it easy this week. Well, after Tuesday.

On Christmas Eve I was in the kitchen ALL day. I made 2 pies, 7 layer cookies, snowballs, and cinnamon swirl crumb cake. Then I showered before starting Christmas Eve dinner. I warmed up my frozen Honey Baked Ham in the instant pot and made mashed potatoes, green beans, home made mac&cheese, and rolls. Anna's friends Amanda and Garrett came over to visit and we swapped some cookies. Anna and I watched Polar Express before the boys headed to bed. So I put out presents and stockings then dropped into bed myself.

Hubby had to work Christmas Eve, so he didn't get in until about 5am Christmas morning. He slept until about 10am then we opened presents and stockings. Thank goodness the kids are grown and waiting wasn't an issue. lol I put French Toast Bake in the oven and by the time we were done it was ready to eat. My stepson, his wife (pregnant with kid #2, grandbaby #5), and their daughter stopped by in the afternoon. My sis-in-law called on speakerphone so my brothers and niece could chat, too. Then later I had a long talk with my eldest spawn who lives in Ohio. We watched A Christmas Story, so our year is complete.

Tuesday we had the other 3 grandkiddos for the day. They opened presents and played until it was time to go home.

I finished up my four year end/book roundup blog posts and since I didn't keep up with them all year, they took me longer than they should have. I'll try to keep up in 2024.

Thursday was grocery pick up.

Friday Kyle bought Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Yum!

Saturday I postponed cleaning since Anna spent Friday night at Amanda and Garrett's for Garrett's birthday today and it was her turn to help with litterboxes. Instead, hubby and I took down all the interior Christmas decorations. All except the tree since Anna's presence is required to help with ornaments. We finished off Texas Roadhouse leftovers.

Today I intend to make Buffalo Chicken Dip and some banana bread to go with our lunchmeat/cheese/crackers/fruit feast for New Years. I'll do the cleaning first though to get that out of the way. The guys will take down the outside Christmas lights. Then we'll just veg out until the ball drops. I have a pork roast planned for New Year's Day, so hopefully we'll start out 2024 with some good luck.

Touching Nature: Rain on Tuesday gave us 3.75" in 24 hrs. The ground is oversaturated. Ugh.

Book News: I've read nothing this week. Just kind of vegged out. However, I did score several books for Christmas and I bought a few after Christmas. Woot! I also may have done some freebie clicking. Just a little bit. *coughs* If you want one of those, just be sure they're still free.

Don't Touch That Dial!:  Still rewatching Bones. Anna has joined me in the evenings. She's never watched the show.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Ok, so I haven't tried this myself (because I like hotels). It's actually my husband's nugget he learned while going through cold weather training in the Marine Corps. When camping in cold weather (as if I would be lol), put the clothes you're going to wear the next day inside the sleeping bag with you and they'll be warm when you put them on in the morning. Also, don't sleep fully dressed. They slept in their long underwear (which they call polypros) because you don't want moisture building up before you head out into cold weather. You really don't. Hubby said he would just push his next day clothes to the bottom of his sleeping bag and they were warm enough the next morning to not freeze his balls off. I'm paraphrasing here.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.
