--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: Anna's birthday was last Sunday, but she didn't get home from the beach until very late so we had cake Monday. Then Tuesday was hubby's birthday. More cake. So much cake that Anna took some to her co-workers. Thank goodness.

My youngest, Kyle, will be 20 next month and thanks to COVID he was able to get his driver's license without an actual road test. He needed to have a current permit, a driving log with 60 hrs of driving with a licensed driver (10 of those at night), and an appt at the DMV. So, Tuesday we went and it was absolutely painless (minus the $43 it cost) at the DMV. It was fast and smooth. Something I never thought I'd say about the DMV in a million years. I swear, when this COVID mess is over they should continue to do appointments only, fuck the walk-ins. Hire more workers and open more locations, but this appt only thing is the best shit ever. We'd been putting off his road test because we dread going to the DMV and wasting a day, so we're 100% relieved that we can cross that item off the neverending To Do List.

In other news, I finally FINALLY got the insurance information I needed. We still don't have the new cards but I think we'll see those next week. It only took nearly a month For Fuck's Sake. Speaking of hubby's work...he's walking between 70-75km (43-46 or so miles) a week. A week. :~O His Fitbit died and we've been waiting for the replacement since it was under warranty, so he's been using Pokemon Go to track his walking. Not sure how accurate it is, but his feet say it's probably pretty close. Plus, I think he's losing weight from it and he really doesn't need to lose any.

No one has any appts this coming week. Well, I'm dropping Artemis and Mr. Puggles at doggie day care tomorrow (for a day of fun and play) and Nox is going for dental on Weds which requires a drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon, but other than grocery pick up on Friday I have nothing on the calendar this week. Hallelujah. I'm hoping to get some stuff done outside. Maybe.

Touching Nature: Mowed Weds. Kyle did the weed eating and Trip moved some wood for me.  Rain from Hurricane Sally moved in on Weds night and stayed until Friday morning. We got 3 3/4" of rain if my new rain gauge is accurate and the temps dropped. Not that it was hot or anything, but it is definitely feeling like Fall now. Soup and chili weather for sure. It is so nice out! I love this kind of weather. Still warm enough for shorts during the day, but cool at night. Ahhhhhh!

Book News: I'm slow to read and even slower writing reviews, but it is getting done.

Don't Touch That Dial!: The Indians and a few Perry Mason.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Still putting puzzles together on my iPad, but I save that addiction for when I'm watching the Indians play.

Randomness: To be honest, I would burn 3 more that size.

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Ok. So, this comes from personal experience. Hubby is the one with the job. Well, the one that brings the cold hard cash into this household. And tied to the job are his benefits. Which are great, but a pain in the ass. Here's why: he does not handle anything to do with the benefits, the bills, or anything else remotely like that. I do. But when it comes to anything HIPAA-related or has to do with his retirement account, etc, etc, he has to give verbal consent when I call these places or have a paper on file stating they have persmission to discuss this shit with me. Which means, if they don't have a form on file then I have to call when he's not at work or sleeping, so he can give said verbal consent. Talk about an inconvenience for me! Be aware: This does not always work. I had him sign a certain form 3 different times and each time I needed to call they said it wasn't on file. Talk about a Hulk Out experience for me. Luckily we don't deal with that incompetent place anymore. So, make your life easier. Get those forms on file. Especially health-related. What if he was unconscious, in surgery, or intubated? How does he give verbal consent then?!

So, TLDR: have a paper on file with consent.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. Oh please let no one in any Traffic Department in South Africa get the idea to do driving licenses without outbase. It's bad enough with them buying it around every second corner...! But I'm glad for your son!

Happy reading this week! Here's my The Sunday Post #12

    1. Yeah, it didn't sound like the greatest idea, but hopefully people will at least practice before going in and "taking" the test.

  2. Oh man! Idk how I feel about driving with no test 😂. It's good for y'all, but there are some people who you know will lie about those hours. And you should see driving in Dallas already 🙈. But I have to agree, if anything good comes from COVID, how some businesses operate (like the DMV) could definitely afford to stick.

Happy birthday to everyone lol! Dante had his birthday Friday. 1 year 😮! We have too much cake too, since it was just us IRL - it was a virtual party.

Have a great week! And yay for insurance finally!

    1. Oh, for sure! But hopefully most will have at least had *some* practice before heading out onto the road.

      Happy Birthday Dante!

      Ikr?! 'Bout time!

  4. Yay for cake and birthdays! We had similar worries about my daughter's license when we moved her but everything was fine. Insurance is a mess. I do all my daughter's stuff and it's the same issue with Hippa stuff.

I'm loving the weather too and this week looks less rainy so far. I have plans!

    1. The cake is finally gone. Now I'm kinda sad. lol Since Trip (now 21) is Schizoaffective he signed all the forms for me to access all his medical records including billing. So I haven't had a problem with him yet. Hopefully never. lol

It's been so nice this week! Too bad I haven't done shit outside. Yet. lol

  5. Cake doesn’t last long around here :)
My son hasn’t gotten around to getting his learners yet because of covid, it was shut down over his birthday and though it’s reopened we haven’t done anything about booking his test yet. When he does I’ll have 3 kids on their learners permit, cause neither of the girls have their 120 hour minimum yet.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. I had all 3 of mine with a learners, but Anna waited until just before her 19th birthday before actually getting her license (had to get her learners renewed) and Trip decided driving was too much for his anxiety so no license for him. Kyle had to have his learners renewed last year. lol Yeesh. I got my license on my 16th birthday. No waiting for me. LOL

  6. No test? Was there a written test at least? Yikes. Wow hubby is doing a lot of walking. Glad you got the insurance cards. My birthday is Thursday, but we are doing cake on Friday so everyone will be here. Hugs.

    1. He did the written when he got his learners permit back when he was 16. The only thing he needed was the road test and they aren't doing that because of COVID. So, the requirement to get his license was to have a driving log (they have a form to fill out that I printed out) with a licensed driver and 60 hrs of road time, 10 of those at night and no more than 10 hrs per week. We did that. :)
