Lillian Phillips wanted
something from the Mad Duke of Thornwood, so she got it and something she wasn’t
expecting. Then she left him as abruptly as she found him. Devon Grey searched
for the intriguing woman, but couldn’t find her until he sees her by chance
over a year later at a Ball. That’s when it becomes game on as he dares her to
do things for him in exchange for his silence about that night he met her. But along
the way, the rules change and, in addition to stealing his pocket watch, he
discovers she’s stolen his heart. Now, what’s a Mad Duke going to do about it?
Oh, this is a delightful
historical romance. With an unusual and unique beginning it was off to a great
start. The pace is even, the writing great. Lillian is a delightful character
and her one brother is despicable. When he forces her to go to London to
arrange a marriage that’s profitable for him, she does what she can to thwart
him. But she has very little room to maneuver. When she meets Devon again, her
night with him comes back in full technicolor. Too bad she can’t have him for
good because even though he’s a Duke, he’s pretty much broke and her brother is
a greedy bastard who wants to sell her to the highest bidder. Devon is a great
character and his anger soon gives way to something else and the romance is on.
He wants to marry Lillian, but he has nothing to offer. However, with the help
of some allies, maybe, just maybe, Lillian and Devon can get their HEA. If you
like historical romance with some heat and humor and some suspense thrown in then
I highly recommend this one.
