AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!

I am soooooooo sleep deprived today. The bags under my eyes are not a pretty sight. We went to a Halloween party last night and it was wonderful, so the lack of sleep was totally worth it. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new. Plus, that spinach dip was so NOM! And there were rum-soaked chocolate-covered cherries. I died. *thud*

In other news, we have our first freeze warning tonight. I need to cover our jalapeño plant because we still have about 18 peppers on it. Don't want to lose them if we can help it.

And finally, the shifter cable on our van broke and when we got home from getting the foodstuffs Friday it wouldn't shift gears. It was stuck in Drive. The shifter would move, but it wouldn't engage any gear, so of course when we eventually had to just turn the engine off it wouldn't restart since it was in gear. Luckily, we didn't block in the car, so we had another ride available. I ended up shoving my arm (it's smaller than hubby's and fit better) into the guts of the engine compartment (lovely bruises and I'm sore now, engine designers should be shot, imho) and popped it back on, but it won't stay on, so away to the shop it goes tomorrow. Lovely. At least we can get it into Reverse now which is more than before. Of course, once it gets put into Drive tomorrow that will be the only gear available until we stop at the shop and park it. And to put it in Park, I'll have to shove my arm in there again to pop the piece back on while hubby holds down the brake. See where this is a pain in the ass? Yeah.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. LOL. I never think I'm going to get approved, then all of a sudden I get approved. It's always a nice feeling to come home to. Great stack.

    1. The older it gets the more likely stuff is to break, but we can't afford a newer vehicle (or payments) right now. *sigh* At least we had fun at the party! :D

  4. I'd love to get Untreed Detectives and I must check out your review of Bad Apples! I've read books by all of the authors. And for a few, Edward Lorn and the Light brothers, I've read all of their books. I do love my horror and am still reading the collection.

    1. I haven't read a bad book yet from Untreed Reads. I did get a book for review that wasn't my type, but I didn't rate it because...well, it wasn't my type and I had a feeling it wasn't going to be, so no point in penalizing it. Plus, I DNF'd at 2%. It was well-written though. Just not for me.

I loved Bad Apples. I had read only E and Evans stuff before, so the others were new-to-me. Quite enjoyed it considering horror is far down on my list of genres.

  5. Dont get me started on Cars. I have two that are falling apart and no money to fix them. It drives me crazy why can't they just not break lol.

I LOVE spinach dip, my sister makes it and its heavenly.

I hope you have a great week and Happy Reading!

    1. I hear ya. *passes over some chocolate* We're lucky that some fixes we can do ourselves. We might have been able to replace the shifter cable but didn't want to mess around anywhere near the airbag. I wish they wouldn't break. LOL

I want spinach dip now. lol

  10. Rum soaked cherries covered in chocolate? Sounds incredibly amazing! Hope your peppers survived! I need to bring mine inside before it becomes to cold for them. The car thing sounds like so much fun but hopefully it's a relatively fix. Have a great week! Hope you don't bang your arm up to bad trying to get the car back into drive!

  11. I'm not touching Netgalley until next summer when this tbr has been tamed! I've been doing well and reducing the pile so need to stop the freebies! My Amazon spending stops at the end of the second week in November so I can forget about packages being late or going missing over the holiday season. After Nov 14th, I don't buy online again until the 2nd week in January! Good luck with the car repairs and enjoy your books!
