--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: We're settling into yet another routine, for now, since April quit her 3rd shift job to concentrate on nursing school. Her schedule this semester was not conducive to 3rd shift and the company was being an asshole about her classes, so she told them buh-bye. She's looking for a part-time job for some extra cash, but her first priority is school. Josh is leaving his job and coming back to work at hubby's company starting Monday and he'll be working basically the same hours as hubby; 12 hr days, 2 on/2 off with every other weekend F-S-S off. We think this new routine will work fine and if April finds another job then we'll adjust to that, too.

Touching Nature: We've had Spring-like weather and it's not Spring yet. That can't be good. Might be my fault for buying two more sleds off Amazon. :P

Book News: I've finished a few books and I've got my posts for the blog scheduled through Feb 24th though I have 2 books I need to finish for that to be absolutely complete. I don't have a Monster Porn Monday post for Feb, but I plan to get back to it for March. Still have a couple (ok, 4) reviews to write, but I'm not stressing over them. I'll probably get them done today anyway.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Watched two NCIS and two X-Files. That's about it. I am trying to branch Cutie Kyleigh out and away from her favorite animated movies and I'm having moderate success except for Thursday when we watched all 3 minion movies (DM2 was watched 3x) for the umpteenth time. It was just one of those days and since I'm grandma, and not mom, I let her watch them. LOL

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: I got nothing.

Randomness: This. This made my day.

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Direct deposit paychecks are awesome and I worry about the sanity of people who do not have a 401(k) especially when their employer matches a certain %. Free money, people! Wtf is wrong with you?

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. Yes, to direct deposit and 401k match...
My daughter left her full time job and took a job working part time to be home with the babies more. Not sure if you have Jimmy John's there, but she is making bank between hourly wage and tips. She works weekdays 4-5 hour shifts. Hope the week ahead is downright awesome!

  2. I miss the 401K match. My employer doesn't do it. I am looking for new employment though. I'd love to work from home. We're having spring like weather too. I wondered who caused it! LOL

  3. Ya, might not have been a good idea to buy those sleds. But at least you have some warmer weather! It's been pretty cold where I am, so hopefully some warmer weather will come over my way. Have a good week, and happy reading! :)

  4. I don't have direct deposit or a 401K because I love my job but it sucks big time. I hope to find new employment but have to wait until the kids are older.

I hope everything smooths out again for you. I hope she is able to find a part time job, nursing is such a great profession to be in, I wish her a lot of luck.

I WANT A HORSE FOR CHRISTMAS TOO!!!!

Have a great week, Carol! Happy Reading! ox

  5. I have had direct deposit for years, and I love it! It is lovely to go away on a trip, and not have to worry.

No 401K...but I had a government job with a nice pension...so it worked out. Although if I had it to do over, I might have tried a different line of work! The stress was horrendous.

    Enjoy your books...and your routines.

  6. lol at that Monty Python meme! :)
The weather has been very strange this year. It feels like we didn't have a fall or winter where I am and looks like Spring is already here. On top of that, we've had tornado warnings! I've lived here for 30 years and never once had to worry about a tornado before!

  7. That's a lot of job changes for your family but it's good to hear you'll be able to work around the changes. I agree about the 401k. Our company matches it and I've always invested (just like my parents told me too lol). I hate my job but the salary, benefits, 401k and pension is why I stay lol. I hope you have a great week!

  8. Well as a teacher I don't have a 401k but I havea 403b in addition to my mandatory teacher retirement fund. And I can't imagine not having my direct deposit! I hardly ever have to go to the bank, thanks to direct deposit :)

I hope things work out for everyone with all the changes - sounds like making all the right calls though - school has to come first, especially if you're in a situation where you can afford to quit.

I'm hoping spring just stays. I realize it's unlikely, but gah I hate cold winter weather! LOL! Have a great week :)

  9. Glad that your kids are trying to find better jobs for themselves! I hope they are doing well! I also like to do deposit checks for my job. It makes it so much easier for me to get my money right then instead of having to travel to my bank just to deposit my money.

  10. I don't think I knew The Walking Dead was a book series as well. Did the books or show come first?

Your family sounds busy but I'm glad you've got time with the grandkids... despite the excessive Minion-viewing!

  11. Yep, sounds like you jinks things when you bought those sleds...lol. Though I don't think winter is done yet so hang on. It's been pretty nice here so I am waiting for the boom.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  12. LOVE the coconuts!

I was just thinking the other day that it feels an awful lot like spring for being the middle (all right, late-ish) of January. Curse you for buying sleds! :P

Hope you have a good week! And good luck with the schedule/routine changes. That all sounds very frustrating, but I hope it works out all right :)

  13. Wow, that's a lot of job changes. I hope everything works out. My son is currently working 3rd shift and it really messes with his life. It's hard to do much of anything when you're up all night and sleeping most of the day. It's only temporary for him until a new person is hired.

  14. All the job changes! Glad April made a good decision for herself and didn't let others railroad her. Bet they wish they hadn't! The man works night shift and has since he's moved to Texas almost ten years ago. It is difficult planning and just having time together. I never want to wake him up because I want him to get his sleep, even if we lose time together.
