--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

Goodbye March. Hello April! 2016 is now 25% uploaded.

On the Home Front: So, this was Spring Break for the kids and we just hung out at home. Friday, on April Fool's Day, my hubby went to the Dr to have his blood sugar checked since he was complaining of always being thirsty and having a dry mouth. He has Type 2 Diabetes. He got a pill to take and we go back tomorrow to get the rest of the test results and come up with a game plan. So, as much as I hate to cook, I'm going to need to revamp our meals. And that means everyone in the house will have to get used to more healthy eating. Something I've been saying we should all be doing anyway, but now it's definitely going to be implemented. Exercising, too.

Touching Nature: We planted seedlings in the garden, got more seeds started in egg cartons and cut down a tree that fell in the opposite direction I wanted. Which was towards the house. Had about 15' to spare, but it nearly hit Trip and the wheelbarrow that was in the yard. Lots of wood there though. It's about 86'. Hard to get an exact measurement since the treetop broke up when it hit.

Book News: I bought books with my birthday monies and now I'm looking for good cookbooks for diabetics. I've done nothing else on the book front. I'm behind on my yearly challenge and need to draft up a few posts, but I do have my April schedule nearly complete. Though I have a feeling May will be a sparse month as we adjust to a new routine and my reading takes a nosedive.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Oh yeah! Netflix marathon commenced on Monday and went into Tuesday. Last 2 episodes of Buffy plus last 2 episodes of Angel Season 4 and all of Season 5. Complete! We've also managed to go from mid-season 5 into 6 of our Supernatural rewatch, but we have yet to watch Seasons 9 & 10. By the time we get around to them Season 11 should be on Netflix though. So...yay? Damn our slow rewatch! I want to get crackin'!

At the Flicks: Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Well, what can I say about this other than I was underwhelmed. Though...Wonder Woman! Boom! Looking forward to her movie now.

  1. Whew, that was close with that tree. I haven't been able to do any planting yet. We had snow yesterday. Nothing that stuck, but it is still too cold. I hope that it will start to warm back up soon.

I watched Batman V Superman and I agree with you. I felt that the story was bloated and not well written. I don't think any of the movie was Affleck's fault, though he is getting a lot of the blame. I did love Wonder Woman, though she didn't get enough screen time.

I've been binge watching Criminal Minds on Netflix. I've also been watching DareDevil season 2. Plus Vikings on Amazon Prime. I hope you have a great week.

  2. Ooo nature can be dangerous. I think it is great you are changing up the menu and all working to help keep him healthy. My Mom has Diabetes and believe me, you need to get a hold of it because complications later are scary.

  3. My dad is diabetic and I wish my mom would take a hint from you and cook more healthy for him but she is so stuck in her ways it drives me crazy.

I heard Batman vs Superman was crappy, I will wait for it to come out on TV. I think they just never found a Batman that works, I think they need to find a nobody to play him to make it work better. I am not an Ben fan at all.

Well you did tell him to move and thank goodness it didn't hit him.

Have a great week, Carol! I can't wait for MONSTER PORN MONDAY!!! :)

  4. Sorry to hear about the Diabetes. Thankfully there are a lot of books out there about cooking for people with Diabetes.. At least they are in Dutch, I don’t really know if there are also many in English but there probably are. It will take some getting used to, but I’m sure you all will manage! ;)
I really enjoyed the Batman movie.. I didn’t think it was that bad at all. But if you put Henry Cavill on a screen I will probably love anything! LOL!!
I hope you have a great week. Happy reading ;)

  5. It's hard trying to gear towards healthier eating my dad is diabetic so I know how that goes. Trying to get him to stay away from carbs is a hard thing. Not sure if you have ever had Spaghetti Squash but I like it and it's nice to have now and then when you want a pasta dish. I make Spaghetti and even a baked pasta with it and it's good. :)

You seem to feel the same about Batman v. Superman as I did, but WW was great so I can't wait for her movie as well. :)

    Happy reading!

  7. Buffy and Angel - yay! But hubby's diabetes is a bummer. Although it sounds as if you're enthusiastic about making some changes so perhaps it could be a blessing in disguise!

  8. I sometimes suffer from the same things your husband complained of. I go to my doc for my yearly check up soon, so I'll bring it up to him. I know I need to drink more water, and I'm working on that. Diabetes makes drastic changes in your life. I've seen my uncle and cousin and their families work with it. I hope the transition is smooth. I look forward to what you share about this journey! That tree is something. Do you plan to do something specific with the wood?
