Hello and Happy Sunday!

Happy 25th Birthday Kyle!

On the Home Front

Sunday ~ Did the cleaning. Did laundry. Went to CVS. I can't really remember what else, but I know I didn't get to lounge around. I think I fell asleep in my chair in the evening.

Monday ~ Raul and guys here to paint. So much painting.  Even more than I anticipated. They scraped the popcorn ceiling in the hallway in the afternoon. It didn't take as long as I thought. I picked up Subway for dinner and Kyle's cake from BJ's. The wasband dropped off Kyle's birthday card and I gave him a small bit of mail that keeps coming here.

Tuesday ~ Kyle's 25th birthday. He had to work, but came home with presents from co-workers. Raul and guys did more painting. So.Much.Painting. And some drywall patching. Got Texas Roadhouse for Kyle's birthday dinner, opened presents, and had cake.

Wednesday ~ MORE painting! Sweet Baby Jane. I had no idea there was so much to do! I have much appreciation for these guys. I would have gone mad with all that tedious work. I had a morning appointment with the lady parts doctor. All is well.

Thursday ~ Flooring! Anna, Trip, and I did some grocery shopping. Anna got her hair cut and I got a bang trim. Trip said he could wait. Stopped at Biggby for a nommy treat (yes, I got the mango blood orange creme freeze yet again - holy shit, I love that drink!), hit Kohl's looking for king-sized pillow protectors (didn't have any cheap ones), Five Below to see if they had the cinnamon toast KitKats for Kyle (they did - I took the last 10 of them lol), Waffle House for breakfast, and Food Lion for a few groceries. Picked up NY Strip steaks for Saturday. Flooring guys got about half done then were cleaning up when Trip and I left to go to the Hurricanes home opener. They beat the NJ Devils 6-3. 🎉 In bed by midnight.

Friday ~ Up at 5:30 to take Kyle to work. Stopped and filled up his car on the way home. Got home around 7am so I took a nap until 8. Flooring guys showed up at 8:40 and got to work. Andrew and Larry came to install the casement window. Flooring guys nearly finished. They'll be back Monday to finish floor and do shoe moulding. I picked up Kyle and had to take 70 home because the highway was so congested it was moving s-l-o-w. By the time we hit up Dairy Queen for blizzards and got home the flooring guys were gone. I fed the furries then headed out with a tub full of booze bottles to give to friends since most of it was the wasband's. They fed me take out from Rio Grande and we had a good long catch up. In bed by 11:00.

Saturday ~ Got up around 8:30. After doing the morning daily shit, I went to Food Lion to see if they restocked Cheerwine Zero for Trip and pick up baking potatoes and Stouffers frozen mac-n-cheese for dinner. I managed to grab a few more steaks for Kyle to grill. His entire grill top was loaded with NY Strip steaks, 12 of them to be exact lol. Took Trip with me so he could get his Pokestop and we discovered the fire department was doing training by burning down the empty house across from the elementary school. I remember when I was a kid the fire department did something similar to a neighbor's really old run down farm house when he was in the nursing home. I wonder what the criteria is for having that done? I bet whoever buys Irene's place could have the fire department do that. I'm sure that the entire house has to be emptied. I seem to recall, our neighbor's house had to have the interior doors removed, too. But I was a kid and may be misremembering. Anyway, that house was for sale last year. Description said it was already gutted, but I bet the people who bought it were like, fuck this shit. Let's start over. It was not in good shape, judging by the exterior. And it's a nice piece of property. If I were them I'd build further back from the road. They have 3.5 acres to do it. We took some pics of that then came home and did the cleaning. It took all day since I was also cleaning up the mess the flooring guys left behind. Mostly dust from the grinding tools they used. It got everywhere! I did a preliminary mop of the new floor, but it will need mopped again. Just not today. I am so done. The boys carried the boxed dishwasher (that I bought back in January lol) in from the Exterior Library since it will be installed Tuesday. Then Kyle grilled, we ate, then I started on this post. If I had updated during the week it wouldn't take me so long, but I had unhooked the ethernet cord so it wasn't in anyone's way.

Today  I have a load of towels to fold. I have an old crappy bookcase in my bedroom that I'm using for my clothes. I think I'll take stuff off and have it tossed in the dumpster. I may wait until during the week since it's supposed to rain all day. But I want it gone before they start demo on the laundry room.

A Month With No Kitchen ~ Renovations started 9/15. We have a grill, toaster oven, microwave, and a plethora of take out options.

Week of 10/6
Monday ~ Subway
Tuesday ~ Texas Roadhouse
Wednesday ~ TR leftovers
Thursday ~ Kyle & Anna had leftovers, Trip and I had a giant pretzel at the game
Friday ~ I went to eat with friends and had Rio Grande take out, the kids had Bojangles
Saturday ~ Kyle grilled steaks & I made baked potatoes and mac & cheese
Sunday ~ leftovers

Construction News ~ A big week coming up! Countertops are scheduled for tomorrow. Andrew and Larry will work on finishing shelves for pantry and hall closet as well as installing the hardware for my barn doors (for pantry and hall closet) and hanging them. Backsplash will start Tuesday and the plumber (Thomas) is scheduled to hook up my dishwasher and install my sink. Weds grout for backsplash. Electrician (Tim) will finish his part on Friday. Some time during the week Andy (the cabinet guy) will be back to install pull outs and cupboard doors and hardware. Laundry room demo is still scheduled to begin the 20th. It will most likely take all week and maybe a bit more even though it's a small room because Raul has to scrape the popcorn ceiling and do any drywall patches, mudding, and sanding. Cabinets are painted so they just need to be set before flooring can go down. Countertop template will need made then installed and backsplash put in. Then it's just finish work with Tim, Thomas, Raul, and Andy.

Touching Nature:  After a humid start it has cooled down to more Fall-like temps and weather. I love it. I do not like the heat. We are not friends. Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons.

Book News:  Nothing to report here. I am so fucking far behind on everything.

Don't Touch That Dial!:  Not much. Watched some Angel, Buffy, and Lucifer.

At the Flicks: Nope.

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, the Finch app - if anyone wants to be friends just let me know.

Randomness:   Yeah, Craig. Duh!

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: With everything going on, it's ok to escape the stress by scrolling funny videos on social media. I follow many funny accounts on Instagram, so I can check out for a bit and laugh at cat or animal antics, watch kindness videos, silly videos, or mesmerizing art videos. Just try not to check out for too long. It's harder to jump back in the longer you check out. And, most of all, try not to endlessly doom scroll. That's no good for your mental health. Watch your favorite content, enjoy a good book or movie, eat that favorite treat, and have a delicious cuppa.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  4. Thanks for sharing all the photos and construction; it's so exciting. I like Elizabeth Hunter. I doom scroll too much and waste too much time reading all the bad stuff happening. I need to cut back. Sounds like you might get in the kitchen this week? That will be awesome.
