Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ Finally got around to washing the big basket of towels, blankets, and dog blankets we liberated from Irene's place. I'd been storing them out on the back deck and had to shake them out real good because the stinkbugs thought it was a good place to hide. Gross. Everything was so musty smelling I was worried they wouldn't come clean. The towels and blankets took 2 washes. I used 2 pods and some bleach for the 1st wash then 2 pods and vinegar for the 2nd wash. No musty smell. The dog blankets, on the other hand, had to be washed a 3rd time (2 pods and more vinegar), but they still have a faint musty smell! Ugh. When we get a sunny day (hopefully Weds) I think I'll just drape them over the railings outside and see what happens. Cleaned the ceiling fans then helped Anna tidy her room. After all that, which all took longer than I thought, I worked on the computer and cleared my desk of a huge pile of unopened mail (mostly junk) and a plethora of receipts from my purse. The rain started.
Monday ~ Andrew and Larry came to work on trim. Rained all day. I worked on the computer since the ethernet cords weren't in their way. I thought the cabinets were coming, but found out they're scheduled for tomorrow. Anna is officially hired at Kyle's workplace. She went for an interview like 100 yrs ago and never rec'd her onboarding email even though Kyle said the guy who is to be her supervisor said she's hired. The HR Dept there is really horrible. Ok, it's just the one terrible woman. Anna had to apply again on Friday because the job expired. She also sent an email to the woman who set up her interview - a different woman from the terrible woman. Today she got a reply and a phone call letting her know she's hired. It's official! 🎉 She starts on Oct 13th. After months of no job and no unemployment because her former employer never filed the paperwork (fucking assholes) she'll be making money again. Good money and decent benefits. And she'll be driving Kyle to and from work. Which means I can sleep in, but also means I lose the money he was paying me to drive him back and forth. lol That's ok though. I'd rather Anna have a job. For dinner we had Chipotle for the first time (except for Anna who's had it before). Not impressed. Qdoba is so much better. Too bad the places around here keep going bankrupt.
Tuesday ~ Took Kyle to work. Still raining. Highway was closed at exit 152 so we had to detour. Good thing we leave early. He was later than he normally likes, but not late according to start time. Andy, his brother, and his dad were here to install kitchen cupboards. They were here all day and will be back tomorrow. Andrew and Larry were also here to work on trim and help Andy. Lots of exciting progress!
Wednesday ~ Dropped the Pilot off to see what's up with the lights. Engine light turned out to be a misfire on cylinder 2 which was a coil and spark plug replacement. The other lights (VTM-4, AVS, and an ! in a triangle) wouldn't come on for Timothy. Because of course. But he thinks the squirrels have been gnawing at the wires because he found some marks. Either I need to make squirrel stew or we need to get some deterrents before they completely chew them up. We had breakfast at Pano's and then did a bit of grocery shopping at BJ's and Food Lion. Andy and his dad were back to do more cabinet installation. Andrew was here to work on trim and shelving. Even more exciting progress! Kyle had a doctor appointment so picked him up a bit early for that. Dropped him at his app't then swung over to pick up his birthday presents from Jeweler's Mark before heading back to pick him up. The places are pretty close together, so I was back before he was done.
Thursday ~ Anna took me to pick up the Pilot. Stopped at CVS and Harbor Freight first. Then she headed home and I went through the car wash and stopped at BJ's to get gas. Did laundry. Andy was here to finish up a few things on the cabinets. Andrew continued working on the shelves for pantry, hall closet, and Trip's storage area (that's not an official closet). Carolina Countertops came to do the template for the counters. It's all done by laser which is pretty fucking cool. Anna and Trip went to Oliver's game at 7:00 and Kyleigh's at 8:00.
Friday ~ After dropping Kyle off at work I stopped at BJ's to get gas in his car then hit up NC Jelly Donuts. Yum! Hunter had a trim guy come in and do the crown moulding around the kitchen cabinets because my ceiling is not level. Because of course it's not. The jackasses who built this house should be ashamed of the overall shitty job they did. But it's been 25 yrs so maybe they went on to other careers where they were much better. But probably not. Andrew stopped by and used the shop vac to do a good vacuum of the floor and they took down the plastic to the hallway. Andrew went back to their shop to work on the piece that will go between the studs in Trip's soon-to-be room. Raul stopped by to check what he needed to paint on Monday. I worked on the computer for a bit then took a little nap in my chair before heading out to pick up Kyle. While eating my leftover stromboli I watched Lucifer (again) and fell asleep in my chair. Anna left to go to April's and at 9 I woke up and asked Trip to take the dogs out so I could go to bed.
Saturday ~ Kyle had to work so I was up at 4am, took him to work, then came home and went back to bed. Unfortunately, I slept until 9:25 then rushed around feeding the furries so I could walk the dogs. I hate getting up late. I hate making them wait to go potty. And it just makes my day all fucked up. Anna and Trip left to go watch Oliver's soccer game at 10 then right before I left at 10:30 to go get Kyle, Raul called and asked if he could bring his guys to prep for painting on Monday. So I put Artemis and Rocky in the office and took off to get Kyle. When we got home they were busy at work, Anna and Trip were home, and Kyle, Trip, and I went out to get rid of a pile of scrap wood that the wasband had been saving for years. It was all gross and rotted and took us 2 sweaty hours. But it's all in the dumpster now. Yay! Worked on this post, took a shower, then made the sides while Kyle grilled sirloin. Raul and guys left around 4:30-ish after everything was covered and taped and Raul put a priming coat on everything. They also did the laundry room cupboards that Andy dropped off this week. Laundry room won't be done until the kitchen is usable for me. Should be week of the 20th.

Except that long board which is the lid for the bench seat.
Destination laundry room
Today I need to do the cleaning that didn't get done yesterday. Probably a bit of laundry. Then most likely will lounge around. Maybe read. Maybe nap. I do need to run to CVS after the pharmacy opens at 10 to pick up some Rxs and mouthwash.
A Month With No Kitchen ~ Renovations started 9/15. We have a grill, toaster oven, microwave, and a plethora of take out options.
Week of 9/29
Monday ~ Chipotle
Tuesday ~ Culver's
Wednesday ~ Zaxby's
Thursday ~ Ciao's Pizza
Friday ~ leftovers or fend for yourself - this time Kyle was the one without leftovers
Saturday ~ Kyle grilled sirloins and we had baked potatoes and Stouffer's frozen mac & cheese that I warmed up in the microwave.
Sunday ~ leftovers
Construction News ~ All kitchen cupboards have been installed and all shelves cut for pantry, hall closet, and Trip's storage area. Raul started Saturday with prep and priming. What's scheduled for the coming week is painting of the cupboards, all shelves in kitchen, pantry, hall closet, and Trip's storage area. Scraping the hall popcorn ceiling is probably going to be tomorrow as well. At some point Raul will need to do wall touch ups, too. He'll probably wait until all the other work is done first. Then flooring is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Touching Nature: Started out warm then cooled down. Getting downright chilly a few nights. 70s/upper 40s. It did rain in the beginning of the week but then was dry.
Book News: Nothing to report here. I am so fucking far behind on everything.
Don't Touch That Dial!: Not much of anything.
At the Flicks: Nope.
Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, the Finch app - if anyone wants to be friends just let me know.
Randomness: Not that there's anything wrong with furries. I'm not kink shaming anyone. It's just so stupid when guys call themselves alpha. Like so very stupid. And they're the type to absolutely hate anyone thinking they are furry. So 🤷

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: After Kyle got soaked when I was picking him up at work, we've decided to keep a full-size towel in his car just in case he gets caught in a downpour again. He had to use the little hand towel I keep in the door for wiping the interior glass when it's foggy or when I have to put the window down when it's raining hard, and it was not large enough for how wet he was. lol
