With the odds stacked against him, Jay does everything in his power to prove his innocence. Racing against the clock, he must uncover the truth about Zoe’s kidnapping before he loses everything he loves—including his freedom.
During a sweltering heat wave and a raging California wildfire, Tiana and Jay will stop at nothing to find Zoe, even if it means tearing apart their marriage and risking their own lives in the process.
This is a compelling story with great characters going through a total life 180. They’re trying to make things work, but it’s so hard and exhausting. Jay is an ex-con and no one wants to give him a job. But they have each other and their toddler, so they keep on keeping on. Then all hell breaks loose when a 10-yr-old girl gets kidnapped and Jay just happens to be in that same Walmart at the same time as the girl. Well, shit.
I wanted to love this story. It starts off intriguing and heart breaking and I was sympathetic to their plight. However, the plot runs a bit off the rails and the dialogue seems so forced that it’s cringy to read. It tries too hard to be so dramatic and instead ends up mostly unbelievable. Tiana makes so many mistakes that I wanted to smack some sense into her many times. Jay does some stupid shit, too, but not as much. There are great parts, but in the end, this just wasn’t what I thought it would be.
