Hello and Happy Sunday!

Happy Mother's Day!

On the Home Front:

Week of 4/30 - 5/7
  • Sunday - Mostly relaxed. Watched tv. Read a bit.
  • Monday - Dental cleaning. Did I mention I haven't been to a dentist in nearly 30 yrs? Yep. That's correct. lol But I lost two fillings so now I really had to go. The appt on the 20th was a new patient assessment. Today a cleaning. And the first of the fillings replacement will be the 17th. I am really not looking forward to it. I mean, there's a reason I haven't been in 3 decades. I dread it. Seriously so. On the plus side, I was told my teeth are in really good shape, except for the lost fillings. Once I get through these new fillings I'm not going again for another 30 yrs. lol
  • Tuesday - Stuff
  • Wednesday -  Grocery pick up. Pack for Ohio.
  • Thursday - Hubby and I drove to Ohio to help move mom back to the farm. Hubby got a call from work that he was fired for saying something he didn't say (he was on paid leave since Thurs while they "investigated") and to say we are pissed is putting it mildly. When we get back hubby is going to write to the Head of HR (not at his plant, the one where she is in charge of their HR and his ripped them new assholes before) and see if anything can be done. In the meantime, I am freaking out about his lost income and benefits. I have to get my new fillings before 30 days is up and the benefits are gone.
  • Friday - Moving day for mom! Got it all done. Oldest bro came from southern OH to help, too. Still freaking out.
  • Saturday - Helped around the farm. I weeded flowerbeds and hubby helped bro clean all of the old hay out of the barn where the raccoons had decided it was a good place to squat. And shit. Everywhere. Gross. It was quite the job. We don't think the barn had ever fully been cleaned out. There was chaff 4 feet deep. I kid you not. It was probably from pre-1900. The house was built in 1850, so there ya go. My nephew and his lovely wife were there to help also. He did the weed eating and then helped in the barn and she helped me with flower beds. My eldest spawn showed up to pick up the bed my mom was giving him and he stayed for the dinner my bro and sis-n-law made. It was so delicious. Still freaking out.
  • Sunday - Hubby and I were up at 4:30am to load up to get home before the Hurricanes played at 3:30. We were on the road at 5:25am and made it back at 1:30pm. Plenty of time to unload, get mostly unpacked, and sit down to watch playoff hockey, baby! They won, btw. Woot! The freak out has not stopped.
Week of 5/8 - 5/14
  • Monday - We had to help Vengeance cross the Rainbow Bridge. It was hard to do, but it was time. He was deteriorating more every day. He was 14 years, 7 months old. What a shit day.
  • Tuesday - Mowing day. Trip did the weed eating and hubby pulled stumps from the ground with the Kubota. Hubby's email to Head of HR in Cary got a reply. She is kicking it up the chain.
  • Wednesday - Hubby worked outside with the Kubota and fixed the shed roof where a big tree limb broke it on the edge. Trip and I split wood. It's looking pretty good out there.
  • Thursday - Grocery pick up. Catching up on the blog. Hubby did not get his last paycheck so he had to send another email to the Head of HR. Kyle's paycheck was fucked up. That place is seriously incompetent. I hope hubby gets a new job soon. I'm still freaking out.
  • Friday - Split more wood. Nearly done with the old pile. Hubby has been cutting trees so there is a new pile starting. I have no idea where I'm going to put it all. Hubby has put applications out there but nothing yet. Well, one phone and in-person interview with one place before we left for Ohio but that's it.
  • Saturday - Cleaning day. Got it all done before noon. Kyle is springing for Texas Roadhouse for Mother's Day tomorrow, so I placed the order to pick up. That means there will be leftovers for tomorrow.
  • Today - It's Mother's Day. I do not cook. I plan to read, read, read. I'm going to bury myself in reading and forget all the bullshit and freaking out for the day.

Mom's week: She's been busy putting things away, tidying, and puttering around the farm house. She keeps saying how cold she is. Well, yeah. Your small room at the Inn was contained and well-insulated and you kept it at 78º. It is not the same as a drafty old farmhouse set at 74º. lol

In addition, she was interviewed several times  in the Fall of 2022 by a Kent State University student for a cool project (read about it HERE) and this past Friday their projects were revealed, so my bro and sis-in-law took mom to see them all and hers in particular. Really cool! My mom's student made tapestries. I wish there was a link to share, but there isn't yet. The website has the Spring semester stuff and should really be updated. Maybe I should make a separate blog post with her tapestries and accompanying explanations. *makes note to do that*

Touching Nature: The week of 4/30 was nice and cool in NC and OH. Even downright chilly at times, especially at night. And wow. Windy! This past week was warmer, in the upper 70s/low 80s and no rain. I mowed and split wood. We also got a delivery of cement blocks we're going to use to make raised beds. Maybe we'll finally get that project off the ground. Heh, so to speak. I also ordered 2 bags of drainage gravel and we spread one up at the top of the drive so the water will quit running from the road down our drive. And the other went by our porch ramp. Did you know how much easier that is to do when you have a Kubota tractor with a bucket and a backhoe? Trip and I about killed ourselves moving gravel with shovels and yard carts in 2021. LOL

Book News: Not making much headway. Although I persuaded hubby to listen to an audiobook on our trip to Ohio. He was skeptical he would enjoy it, but I showed him. I picked The Nowhere Man by Gregg Hurwitz and he was hooked. Which meant I had to re-listen to Orphan X (book 1) on the way back home. LOL But that's ok. It was a great book.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Finished Murdoch Mysteries season 13 which is all Hulu has. Not to mention it's supposed to be taken off tomorrow. We can get it with Acorn TV which is $6.99/month. We should be able to watch seasons 14-16 in that time then cancel. lol I'll think about it. Next up is Bull.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Zen Match, jigsaw puzzles

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Life will occasionally throw shit at you. A shower will wash it away quickly. But what if you don't have one? Towels would work, but what if you don't have any? Maybe you could roll around in the grass. But what if all you have is sand or rocks or mud? Sometimes, you just have to live with it until the rain comes.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. Happy Mother's Day Carol. You have had a busy couple of weeks. I'm glad your Mom was able to go home and is doing well. I won't get to the new raised bed until we finish with the new bathroom cabinets. I LOVE Orphan X.

  2. I'm sorry you're having to deal with all the tension/anxiety about your husband's firing. I hope that gets worked out, and that he finds a new job soon. And wow, you have been busy with the farm and the yard and all! I hope your mom settles in well, too.
