Hello and Happy Sunday!
(post written on Saturday)
On the Home Front:
- Sunday - Anna and I drove all day to Ohio. Brought Mr. Puggles with us. It rained a bit here and there, but was otherwise uneventful. We listened to some of Anna's podcasts when our local radio station was too far away. Mom had homemade chicken soup for us when we got there. Yum!
- Monday - Took mom to radiation, picked up rental, did grocery shopping. I loaded as many retaining wall blocks as I dared in the rental SUV (about 37 of them - they were heavy lol) and a few other odds-n-ends. Had homemade potato soup for dinner. Yum!
- Tuesday - Drove home to North Carolina. Took all day. Weather was gorgeous and traffic was light. The menfolk seemed to have missed me as well as the furries. They unloaded the rental, I gave it a quick vacuum (the blocks were dirty oops) then dropped it off at the rental place. I completely forgot to fill up the tank. Oh, well. McD's for dinner.
- Wednesday - Playing catch up with everything.
- Thursday - Grocery pick up.
- Friday - Worked on blog. Finished a review. Woot! Water pressure got super low. Like dribbling out. Had to troubleshoot the issue. Turns out, the 2 filters under the house needed replaced/cleaned. Trip does that the 1st weekend of the month. Not sure why all of a sudden they got super clogged. Weird.
- Saturday - Cleaning.
- Today - No clue. I hope to read and relax.
Mom update: She's had some issues with chest pain (this is due to the radiation and where the stomach tumors are located) and acid reflux. As well as some weight loss due to the cold sensitivity from the chemo infusion. Which means she can't do ice cream. So, we're looking for high calorie Boost as well as high calorie protein powder. She needs a lot of calories to keep her weight up and she needs the protein for her muscles. She's going to try a drink made from melted ice cream. I suggested she put it in the fridge since cool temps aren't an issue, just frozen stuff. She didn't want liquid ice cream, but I asked her to just try it. If it's too thick to go down (due to the location of the largest tumor blocking a good portion of the esophagus opening) then it can be thinned with whole milk. The oncologist prescribed Oxy for the pain and mom was hesitant due to it being potentially addictive but we convinced her the small dosage shouldn't be an issue especially since she essentially only needs it in the morning and before bed. She said she'd try it but is halving the dosage and it seems to be working. During the day she doesn't seem to have the chest pain, maybe because she's up and moving about. In any case, her spirits were really low mid-week, but after easing the pain (with less than prescribed) her spirits are up. Pain is evil. She's also having a bit of an easier time eating, so maybe the tumor is shrinking some. Maybe it's the pain management. Maybe it's a combination of things. Good juju in all forms appreciated.
Touching Nature: Nope
Book News: Started and finished an audiobook while coming back home. I also managed to write up a review. 3 left, all audios. Maybe I'll try to bang one out today. Or maybe I'll go read and do it tomorrow.
Don't Touch That Dial!: Supernatural season 12 is almost over.
At the Flicks: Not yet.
Cyberspace Playground: Still Wordle and Zen Match
Randomness: A castle!! I think the Domino's delivery driver would hate me. Especially in the winter.
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Carry a small pocket flashlight with you wherever you go. You're welcome.
That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

I couldn't like in that castle! I am a city girl and need to be able to walk to get a quart of milk. Since we all carry phones we have a flashlight with us. I also take a nightlight when we travel, so I can find the bathroom in the middle of the night. My husband said why not use my phone? I said it is too bright!
ReplyDeleteI always forget about the flashlight on my phone. It's not as good as the small LED one I carry though. lol
DeleteGreat castle picture.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a busy time travelling to and fro. I hope your mum feels better soon.
My son likes playing with torches, so we keep them out of his reach!
Have a great week ahead!

I love that castle. lol
DeleteThank you!
Oh, yeah. Good idea. Kids do love flashlights.
I'm glad your mom is getting some relief from the pain and I'm glad she's having a little bit of an easier time eating. I can only imagine the pain she's in and how awful she feels with her cancer. I hope she continues to improve and do well. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteBoth Veiled and Girl Who Joined the Circus sound intriguing! Sheesh - these blog Sundays are murder on my TBR list! So many books to learn about.

Ikr?! My TBR is now planet-sized so I just call it Planet TBR lol
DeleteI hope things go well for your Mom. It's good Anna is there to help. My daughter loves soup so she would have been happy eating there.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
She had a bad day yesterday but is doing better today. The soup was delicious. The chicken soup was just whatever veggies mom had on hand, but the potato soup she has a recipe for. lol I make it with potato and broccoli though. And top with shredded cheddar. Mmmmm...
DeleteYES to the pocket flashlight. Last night I tried to use the flashlight on my phone to find the dead katydid on the carpet but ended up having to use the pocket LED flashlight.
ReplyDeleteHope your Mom starts to feel a lot better as she manages her pain and figures out some nutrition and calories that she can tolerate. F cancer!!! F pain!
Pocket flashlight for the win!
DeleteYes to F! Fuck it all!
