Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: Seriously. I am so over this month. I'm tired so I'm just going to copy and paste my Facebook posts about all this. Ignore the timelines mentioned. You're getting the full updates in one sitting. lol

Sunday: What a morning. Walked out of the office and was smacked in the face with a bad smell. Nothing on the carpet, so figured it had to be one of the dogs in their crates: Artemis or Rocky. It was Artemis and holy fuck. Vomit, tarry poop, and bloody diarrhea. Everywhere. Poor baby. Called emergency vet and was told to stop her pain meds (from having her tooth extracted) and if she got worse to bring her in but they are super busy (since it's Sunday) and to expect to wait hours. She's lethargic, but alert. She had bloody diarrhea this morning when I took her out and she vomited twice (no blood), but so far no repeats. I bathed her and she's had water a couple of times with no vomiting or diarrhea (so far) afterwards. Not interested in food yet, but I'm keeping an eye on her. She's laying by the front door in the sun. I put a doggie bed there for her. We'll see how the rest of the day goes. I've scrubbed the carpet and her crate and sprayed the bedding down outside. It needs washed with bleach. I feel like I've been up 100 hours but it's only been about 6.

Monday: Figured I'd update while I'm waiting for the vet to call back. Artemis had no more incidents of vomiting or diarrhea yesterday. She drank plenty of water but was not interested in food. She was so lethargic we brought the cats out to her for some interaction. Her ears perked up and she sniffed them but did not try to eat them so we praised her effusively with words and pats. When outside she tried to get lizards and a squirrel so that was good and when we went up the drive to the road Kisses (the neighbor's dog) was there and she went batshit. Inside she just laid around.

When the guys got up at 3:30 this morning to go to work I took her out to pee. Her water bowl was empty and her pee pad was soaked, so I got another pad out and filled her bowl. When I got up at 7:30 her bowl was nearly empty, but no pee in her crate. I'm not sure if she's drinking too much water. She wasn't interested in breffis but after we went out for our walk (again, not nearly as peppy as usual) she walked over to get the usual after walk morning chewie and I was like hmmmm. No. How about some shredded chicken instead and she ate some of that. I called the vet this morning and I'm waiting for a call back. So, now you know what I know.

Tuesday: Artemis is doing much better. She was slowly getting back up to speed yesterday and ate some shredded chicken. The nasty farts are a testament to that. The vet said her reaction could also have been from the anesthesia which can occur 24-48 hrs after the procedure. Possibly combined with the pain meds. That was a nightmare I could have done without, but now we know. He prescribed an antibiotic just to be on the safe side. We don't want her getting an infection where her tooth was.

Rocky's kennel cough seems to have disappeared. He has an antibiotic he needs to finish and it does not seem, at this time, that the other dogs have caught it. Considering kennel cough is highly contagious let's hope it stays that way. His diarrhea has also resolved into soft poop. Not firm yet, but much better. I guess the probiotic has done the trick. He may also be less stressed as he becomes used to the routine. Last night was the first night I didn't have to hunt him down (he thought he was clever hiding under a pillow the other night) and carry him to his crate for night nights. He went right in. Of course, the night night chewie may be why he didn't fuss. lol

Wednesday: Trip and I worked outside in the morning then went to BJ's and Nature's Emporium. I spent the afternoon reading. No unpleasant surprises. Here's my Facebook post because it is so typical of my life.

Me: We're back from BJ's and Nature's Emporium! I can sit down and read, read, read.

Also Me: *changes into jammies, puts away groceries, puts load of towels in washer, cuts purchased flowers and arranges in vases, puts harnesses on dogs for Trip to take out, gives cats afternoon snack, vacuums Eevee's stray litter in our bathroom, give dogs treats after they come back in, empties garbage under sink, puts 6 shovels of gravel in wheelbarrow and dumps under air conditioner drainage pipe under deck to get rid of slimy muddy mess, finishes tomorrow's Walmart order*

2 hrs later: Yay! Time to read!

Thursday: Grocery pick up in the morning. Then...another vet trip. This time for Vengeance. He was acting completely out of character, whining, panting, not lying down. Plus he was vomiting, especially after he drank water and trying to poop every 15 or 20 minutes but instead of poop there was blood. Doc got him worked in and ran some tests some of which will be back in the morning. Blood count is ok though so that's good considering. He's staying overnight for fluids and antibiotic. Doc said something about possibly inflammatory bowels? Maybe? Honestly I didn't catch all the words. But whatever he mentioned Vee *should* be back up and doofus-y again in 12-48 hrs.

Friday: Hubby took the day off and we ran some errands, had lunch at Chili's, and worked outside. It's too fucking hot.

Saturday AM: Vengeance is back home. I picked him up yesterday late afternoon and the first thing he did was go straight to a tree and pee for like 100 hours. Jeez. LOL They topped off his fluids and rotated his tires. Not sure exactly what caused the internal inflammation (stomach/bowels/?) since all tests came back normal. I guess it happens sometimes. Been pretty lucky then that this is the first time I've seen it. First time for the Artemis nightmare last Sunday, too. I could really do without all these firsts. I fed him chicken and rice and he's kept it down. No poop yet, but he has only had dinner and breakfast this morning so hopefully there will be no blood in it when he does go. He is more like his old self though he does sleep a lot. That may be because he didn't sleep much at the vet, doesn't feel up to speed yet or he's just showing his age. Or maybe all three. We'll see how today goes.

Update late Saturday afternoon: Still hasn't pooped so no blood is good so far. Eating chicken and rice and his meds and  keeping them down. He's very tired and sleeps a lot. We'll see how he feels later tonight and into tomorrow.

In other news, Kyle decided to treat us to Texas Roadhouse. So we'll eat that for dinner today (Saturday) and have leftovers for tomorrow. Woot!

On top of all this I had guys coming to give me estimates for gutter replacement and installing gutter guards. That's it for me and my week. How was yours?

Touching Nature: Hot as Hade's ball sack. And just as sweaty.

Book News: I'm making slow progress on a huge sci-fi tour book. I have written zero reviews.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Not much. Carolina Hurricanes are moving on to Round Two though, so WOOT!

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Nope

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: When things are going to shit just put one foot in front of the other. Eventually things will settle back down.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. What a busy and frightening week I hope they are all better. It was HOT this week. I'm looking forward to a cooler week with a bit of rain, because we kind of need it. I have the research on roofing, gutters, solar panels etc to go into my next project phase this week as well as working on the yard. The thriving green grass in the yard is .... crabgrass.

  4. Oh Carole what a week! I'm so glad all the animals seem to be okay at the end of all that, but I can imagine it was so stressful, not to mention expensive and all that cleaning up to do 🙈. I hope you have a much better, stress free, healthy week ahead!

  5. Wow, what a week. Actually, it sounds a bit like my week. I had to rush my dog to the emergency vet too. They ended up giving her arthritis medicine and diarrhea medicine, and now she’s not hobbling around and crapping everywhere. I hope this week is better for you!
