Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: WTF did I do all week? It doesn't seem like I did much, but I was always busy. lol However, I did get our taxes done. Anna's, too. So WOOT! I also mowed the "lawn" and I'm just going to stop calling it that. It's slowly being overrun with weeds and moss, so basically I'm just keeping it short so it doesn't look shittier than it already does. We cannot grow grass for nothing. Ugh.

Oh! Trip and I took the old swing off the deck and put some new chairs there. There's so much room now that the bigass swing isn't there. I need to get some composite boards to replace the seat and back. Once we've done that we'll put it by the new firepit, that we haven't actually made yet. Hey, it's on The List. Then we put the planters back on the rails. The lemon balm and mint are really going to town. Hubby and I planted some beans in the last planter. I want to put some tomato and pepper plants up there. The deck gets a shitton of sun.

We got some heavy rain last weekend and the shittyass skylight in our bathroom leaked big time (hubby threw a fuckton of caulk on it for now). We'd been waiting since November for tinted skylights so I finally got ahold of the roofing guy this week and found out we're never getting tinted skylights. The manufacturer is blaming Covid19 for not having them until the end of the year. Uh. No. That will not work for us. That skylight should have been replaced 3 years ago. We should have fucking done it then. It's deteriorating fast. Fyi, our house will be 21 in November. Kyle was a month old when we moved in so he will also be 21 (in October). Anyway I'm going to order regular skylights from Lowe's using our military discount and then call the guys to come put them in. I'll ask mom to make me some curtains out of some sheer material and I'll find some tension rods to put up in the opening. South facing sun problem solved for ours. The kids skylight is on the north side so it's not as bad. We'll probably also get the gutters replaced then recycle the old gutters for growing lettuce, herbs, and such. And I need to order the new garden shed kit. So, yeah. Lots to do coming up. But first, grandkiddos are coming Friday for an overnight. If the weather is nice we'll finally sacrifice the Christmas tree to the S'mores Gods. I'll let you know.

Touching Nature: It's been cool this week. Very nice. This lovely weather is supposed to continue into next week. I hope so. Trip and I have things to do outside. Also had our friend come and spray for bugs outside since twice I found a tick on me - once after aggressively trimming the feral greenery and then again the day after. So I had him come over and kill those bastards with extreme prejudice.

Book News: I binged a tour book, but need to write the review as well as two more. Other than that I've got nothing to report here. That means I'm 16 books behind in my Goodreads challenge. I seriously need a week of binge reading.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Trip and I finished our rewatch of The Witcher but have not started our Marvel watch yet. Hubby and I managed a few episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars but we've mostly been watching the Indians and the Hurricanes.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Nope

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Karma. I believe in it. Problem is, I want it right now. I don't have the patience to wait. lolol

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. A lawn of well-manicured green grass is overrated in my opinion. A lawn of weeds and moss has more character. :-)
I hope you are able to get the skylights replaced asap. Leaks are the worst! I hope you have more time for reading this week!

    1. I'd like a small area of grass just to walk barefoot. It feels sooooooo good. Ah well. Character it is and our space has it to spare. LOL

I'm hoping they only take a week or so to come in then it's a matter of scheduling the roofers. *sigh*

I'm hoping for more reading, too! Thank you!

  2. Uh yeah, I have moss and weeds too. I like the moss but not the weeds. The plan is to do some major reseeding and sodding in late May to also help with drainage. So we will see. In the meantime, we keep it short. Watch out for that mint. It tried to take over my herb bed last year. I pulled it out and put it in a pot in September. It stayed outside in the pot all winter and is still going strong. Chives are like that even in MN. I'm loving this weather.

    1. Yeah, mint doesn't believe in personal space. Which is why I only have it in pots and planters. lol

This weather is what March, April, and May should be like all the time. It's perfect Spring weather.

  3. I am glad you were able to get your taxes done and the lawn mowed. We have grass and some major bald spots which have been very stubborn. We definitely need to do something about them. The sprinklers work fine seemingly. Adding seeds and fertilizer hasn't helped. I hope you get your skylights replaced soon and that leak fixed.

I hope you have a great week!

    1. We've tried seeding our lawn several times over the years then we just gave up. Ma Nature has spoken. No grass for us. lol

      Me, too! Thanks!

  4. Toss a coin to your Witcher. When we had horrible hail here and everyone had their roofs replaced due to damage, we saw so many houses get rid of their skylights. Hope the weather is good for your sacrifice!

    1. And now I have that song stuck in my head you evil woman. lolol

With all the trees around here we kinda need them for natural light. Plus, we've never had hail or even limbs cause any damage, so we'll play the odds and just replace them. Hopefully, if something does happen to them then insurance will cover it. *fingers crossed*

  5. Ahh, I'm sorry for the issue with the Skylights. But I'm glad you got other home projects done. I feel you on having a The List. There's lots we should be doing too but we keep putting it off lol
