Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: Monday afternoon Anna had her interview at hubby's work. She did great and they would have hired her except she's going to school this Fall and they can't work around her schedule. They are a manufacturing facility, so anyone working there needs to fit classes into work, not work into classes. So, she's disappointed but understands. And then our week turned into a nightmare.

Andrew, Anna's new beau, was petting Vengeance Monday evening before he headed home and V just up and bit Andrew in the face. V has been getting worse as he ages (he's 12 now) in regards to growling or snapping at people who get too close to his face. Andrew said V gave no indiction he was upset or he would have backed off. Andrew worked for about a year at the Pet Lodge with Anna so he's pretty good at reading a dog's body language. We believe him simply because of V's history. So, V bit Andrew and did some serious damage to his nose. It bled quite a lot and once we got the bleeding slowed and I got a good look at it (thank all the Gods that there was no damage to eyes or lips) I realized right away it would need stitches. We took him to the ER and we weren't allowed to go in. Well, Anna went in with him to help get him checked in then she came out to the Pilot. Luckily they weren't busy and he was able to go back right away. The ER doc said Andrew needed a specialist and they had one on call. That doc got him stitched up and he finally got out of there at 3am. Before that he had told Anna and I to go ahead and go home. His parents would give him a ride, so I went to bed around midnight, but tossed and turned. Andrew is doing well. He saw the specialist on Weds and they did a check then again Friday to take out the stitches. The doc thinks he will heal up with minimal scarring. Thank goodness. In addition to feeling horrible and concerned, I worried myself sick about the medical bills, but found out Weds that our home owners insurance should cover the bills. Until they actually do though I'm still worried. In addition to all of this, the ER had to report the dog bite and Animal Control called the next day. V had to go into a 10 day rabies quarantine even though his shots are up to date. So he's been at the vet since Tues morning. I have no idea if he will be allowed to come home or we will be forced to put him down. And if he comes home, I no longer trust him especially around the grandkids. So, fuck.

In other news, Kyle went Weds evening and did his drug screening for his new job, so that's out of the way. His official hire date will be March 22nd. I need to order him safety shoes PDQ.

And finally, hubby is home from Iowa. Came in Friday evening. And even though our bathroom reeks of a dead mouse somewhere under the floor, he's glad to be home with his own stuff. Originally he was supposed to go back out for 3 more weeks then they said no. They want to get full production going on the 8th. Now they're saying the group may go back out again. But who knows?

Touching Nature: Not horrible. That's all I've got.

Book News: I was down to 4 book reviews needing written then went on a bit of a book bender. I currently have 6 to write (I wrote 3 this week, so I was at 9) and I'm still 5 books behind on my Goodreads Challenge. No worries though.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Trip and I finished our Star Wars chronological rewatch. Thank goodness. Wasn't sure we would make it through the last 3. lol Ok, they aren't that bad. Except for Leia floating through space. Come on! Anyway, he wants to watch the newer Batman movies and then Batman V Superman and then Justice League before we move on to possibly the Marvel movies. Now that hubby's home he's thinking he wants to do a Star Wars chronological watch especially since he's never seen The Clone Wars and Rebels.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Nope

Randomness:
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: If you want to wear a mask even after it's been declared safe to stop, then keep wearing it. Fuck what people think. With flu cases also being way down due to responsible mask wearing people I don't know how dipshits argue that they don't work. It's fucking common sense. Does NO ONE ever get spit sprayed on them when someone is talking or yelling? Come on! Where do they think the phrase, Say it don't spray it comes from? FFS

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  2. Oh No! I hope Andrew is ok, and your pup! I hope V is home soon. It's rough when they start getting older :(

Sorry Anna didn't get the job but glad she will be going to school in the fall.

In China they wear masks all the time, outside and in closed places especially when it is the sick season. I don't see me not wearing one now that I know it will really help prevent the Flu and other colds. Not sure why I didn't do it before.

Hope this week is a good one, Carol! Happy Reading! xx

  3. Oh no, so sorry to hear about Andrew and your dog. :-( Re., masks I was reading yesterday about how there has been almost no RSV cases in babies and kids this winter due to the mask wearing and social distancing. AND if that wasn't amazing enough, ear infections are also down about 90% WOW. Hope you have a good week -

  5. What a week! I am so sorry about Andrew and your dog. My husband had a similar situation with our dog a few years ago. Our dog was elderly, like yours, and my husband leaned in with his face and got bit on the nose. Nothing like that had happened before. We believe our dog had been startled awake and reacted on instinct. I was beside myself over it. I loved that dog so much. My husband healed without any serious damage or scarring and my dog had a few more years with us before we had to say goodbye. I worried a lot when my daughter was born. We had to be extra vigilant--although technically you should to be anytime children are around dogs. You know what I mean though. I hope everything works out. I am happy Andrew is doing okay. I feel for you and understand your concerns. Sending big hugs and support your way.

My husband and I were just talking about masks post-pandemic and how we hope that it becomes the trend that people where them when sick here in the U.S. It really does make a difference.

I hope you enjoy your reading! Have a great week.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear about Andrew but am glad he's going to be okay. Hopefully there won't be any issues but I know that is a source of stress. Too bad about Anna's interview but it does sound like a positive experience overall. I don't understand about the anger directed at masks. They're just not that difficult to wear and even if there's a chance they'll help then isn't it worth it? I get the annoyance but the anger just puzzles me. My husband and daughter who are both very quiet and shy have decided they like them because they don't have to smile or anything. Have a great week!

  7. I'm so very sorry to hear about Andrew & the doggo. Reminds me of when my cousin was napping on the couch and the cat was on the windowsill above her. Something scared the cat, cat jump down and ripped her face. Mainly her nose. No specialist was brought in for poor Linda so Andrew's face should turn out pretty good compared to hers.

I kinda like hiding behind my mask and hate wearing makeup so I'll probably keep wearing one in public forever.
