--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!
My goal today is reading, playing in a Wordscapes tournament on my phone, and doing less than 1,000 steps on my Fitbit. There will be no cooking or cleaning of any kind.

On the Home Front: It's been a sort of slow week this week. Hubby and I have done a few small projects. He has done a few more than me and that's fine. I'm pacing myself. lol NC is is in Phase I of getting back to "normal". Hubby works at a night club, so no work for him just yet. If COVID19 numbers stay down I'm going to guess that he'll be back to work by the end of the month. In the meantime, he's enjoying his time at home. He's 51 and has worked his ass off his whole life. I think he deserves the time off even if it's a terrible reason for it. Between the stimulus, unemployment, and savings, we're doing ok for now. Believe me, we're grateful because so many have it so much worse than we do.

Here's some pics of projects completed.
A paper towel holder for the laundry room.

Planters for the back deck. We plan to stain them with our
own black walnut stain. Eventually. lol

I requested a plexiglass litterbox stand because Sugarcube pees outside the litterbox and the wood in the old stand was reeking of piss even though I put pee pads and towels inside to absorb it. So hubby salvaged some of the wood and made the sides and shelves from some scrap plexiglass we had then caulked where the sides meet the shelves. It's not all that pretty but it should do the trick. Do not ask about him trying to cut that thickasfuck plexiglass. It involved trying to use several different types of saws, a broken blade, and replacing his jigsaw because a part broke off. Yeah, it ended up being a very curse-worthy project.

This is my project. I've been using vinegar to remove labels from bottles so I can put lights in them. Aren't they pretty?

Touching Nature: We had a couple of 80º days. I mowed and tried to burn brush but it wouldn't get going so I said fuck it. Monday night a front came through and cooled us down with a bit of rain. Last night we actually had a freeze warning. WTAF

Book News: I might be binging Melissa Bowersock's books on KU again. They're short (100 or so pages) and I enjoy them. But that means I have more reviews to write. Oops.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Hubby is still watching Perry Mason since I've decided I want to binge read. The boys and I watched the last of Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7. Man, I wish it weren't over. That was a really good season, but way too short. Though there is a slight whisper of a rumor we may get an Ahsoka series. I'd love to see a 6 or 8 episode arc bridging the end of SW:TCW and her joining Rebels.

At the Flicks: Hahaha. No.

Cyberspace Playground: Nope

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Did you know you should wipe down or run your washing machine with a special cleaner? Or with vinegar and water? Because soap scum is scummy and it builds up. I'm 52 and never thought off that until I got a new one this year. I wipe it down frequently to keep it shiny as long as possible. Because, you know, shiny.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. I love the bottles with the lights!
My husband was on partial unemployments for a while but last week is starting to go back full time. We are also doing good so I am glad he is able to go back now and I will be going back also after this week. The state is still on lockdown but work and home is all I do.

It snowed yesterday, not a lot just some flakes falling and this coming Friday it will be 75. I give up on 2020. This year sucks!

Have a great week, Carol! Stay Safe and Happy Reading! xx

  3. Ha! So we bought a used washer and dryer back in September and whoever had it before us hadn't been doing that. But after several loads of bleach and this special tablet for cleaning washers (I think it's called all fresh) we got it clean. Now I wipe it down after every laundry day and we run the tablets every 6 months (so far... Only been 8 months lol).

Love the lights! So pretty. And your husband has been busy! Wow!

Hope you have a great week and stay safe!

  4. I think in the crazy rush of this world I really have appreciated this downtime. You have done an amazing job with projects and that has to feel good. I think that has been a better thing than some realize. Of course, some people have had full-time work all along. And some aren't as lucky with being able to stay home and yet pay their bills. I think it's way too soon and things will get much worse before they get better.

    Take care and happy reading!

  7. An emo with a glow stick - so true! :D :D And I love the bottle lights; I may steal that idea. Also, belated happy Mother's Day!

I hear on the unemployment and savings. I'm not hurting financially, yet anyway, and it's a huge relief. Still waiting on my stimulus check.

Happy reading and enjoy your week!

  8. I haven't noticed any scummy build up in my Mom's washer but maybe that's because she has a water softener machine thingy? Dunno.

I love your bottles with lights!
