It’s 1867 and Ophelia
Flax and her friend Prudence Bright are actresses on a ship to England when they
get fired from the troupe they are traveling with. Desperate for employment before they land in
England Ophelia forges letters of reference and finagles her way into the
service of a rich American woman traveling to Germany to her husband’s castle.
From there it all goes downhill.
A wide cast of
characters, a twisty plot, and plenty of humor make this an engaging historical
murder mystery with a bit of fantasy thrown in for good measure. Just a bit
though. It’s mostly an historical murder mystery. It tends to drag in sections,
but for the most part it kept me turning the pages trying to figure out who the
damn killer was. The next book sounds interesting, so I may continue on at some
point.
I like light humorous mysteries. Probably why I'm addicted to cozies. This sounds like fun and such a clever title and pretty cover too.
ReplyDeleteSeen this one around and it sounds like a fun series. :)
