AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!

We have survived the first week of back-to-school. Yay! The days were quiet and I got various household tasks done, 13 reviews written and numerous posts drafted while hubby was working. On his days off we caught up to all the available episodes of the show Psych on Netflix and watched X-Men 1, 2 & 3. We didn't get a chance to round that off with Wolverine, so we'll watch that tomorrow and maybe start watching Grimm or Haven.

Hard to believe that the month of August is giving its last gasp. 2014 is now 67% complete or 2/3 behind us. You'd think we'd have cooler weather in the forecast heading into September, but nooooo. We're in for a stretch of 90º weather. Oh. Joy.

I reviewed 38 books in August and September is going to be another killer month while October is already booked. Yowzers! I have about a week-and-a-half of posts drafted, so I need to pick up the pace. I liked having at least a 3 week buffer, but with Real Life mucking about in Reading Life I had to use up my reserves. That's ok. I apparently work best under pressure and the only pressure this month is my own 99¢ Challenge. Of the 30 books I picked, I've read and written the reviews for 9 of them. I'm glad a bunch of them are short stories though. LOL I also have a few upcoming tours I need to do, but for the most part, I'm looking at my 30~ 99¢ books for September.

In other news, I have made the decision to do no more tours. I dislike being told the review needs to be a 3 or better in order to post. If I take the time to read a book then I should be able to post whatever rating the book gets whether it's good, bad or ugly. I will continue to do tours with the few publishers I've worked with in the past because they place no constraints and are great to work with, but that's it. Since I usually only post once per day, I'm using my limited space-time continuum to catch up on backlog and do the features I enjoy *ahem, Monster Porn Monday*. However, I will be doing NetGalley November though because I have a few *cough*, ok, a LOT of ARCs that need to be cleaned off my shelves. November seems like a good time to do that, mostly because NetGalley and November start with the same letter. *winks*

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  2. I ended up doing that as well--stopping working with tour companies--a year and a half-ish ago. And man I'm so glad I did. It made blogging a lot more fun for me and less stressful dealing with their "rules" like that. Hope it works out for you too!

    1. I'm a little sad about it because I've read some great books, but those few that were bad and I couldn't share my opinion after taking the time to read them really irritated me. So...no more.

  3. I know what you mean about being Weak when it comes to NG. I'm very weak-willed as well. Great stack. Red-Blooded is going to be awesome.

    1. We will be the Weak-Willed Sisters. lol My NetGalley weakness is why I haven't really scoped out Edelweiss. I have a feeling I would run amok there, too. lol

    1. I think I'll be happier even thogh I did find some great books through tours. Psych cracks us up. We like a lot of crime procedurals and the humor in Psych balances some of the darker shows we watch. Too bad it was cancelled. :( Ah, MPM is garnering a following. I need to stockpile some more if I'm going to do twice a month posts after the New Year. :D

  5. Yes, I'm sad that another summer is over, time flies by. We have had autumnal weather for a couple of weeks but are in hope of what we call an Indian summer as predicted by the weatherman. 90 degrees is too much for me and I wonder how you cope with that heat. Have a good week :)

    1. Why is it that the older we get the faster time flies? It should be the opposite, right? lol I hate the heat. I used to hate the cold, but at least when it's cold you can add layers and blankets and such. When it's too hot and you're down to skin, then what?! lol With this weather I pray daily to our new A/C system to please continue to provide us with cool air. :)

  6. Oh, those Katie Rose books look good, and it's hard to be strong when perusing NetGalley.

I've seen all the X-Men movies except for the most recent; binge watching can be glorious. :D

I'm looking forward to your 99 cent book reviews in September, should be interesting.

    1. I loved the first book in the trilogy. I'm so glad I have books 2 & 3 to read! :)

We haven't seen the newer X-men movies. I'm not sure I really want to. We binged on Supernatural and now that we're waiting for Season 9 to show up on Netflix, we're kinda at a loss. lol

It's been interesting so far. I have only one book (I think) from an author I've read before. Otherwise they are all new-to-me authors. :)

  7. I don't think I'd like the 3 or better rule either! I like NetGalley November! I have dreams of having a 3 week buffer or even a 1 week buffer but real life keeps interfering. One day though! Have a great week!

    1. I understand that the author is paying for a tour, but if the reviews aren't allowed to be honest (which means even when it's less than 3) then I don't want to be a part of them.

I'm always running around trying to get things together and when I had my 3 week buffer it was just soooo nice! If I hadn't challenged myself to this 99¢ September challenge then I could get ahead again. But that's ok. I still have a bit of a buffer that I hope to increase after this week. :)
