The Haunting Scent of Poppies

The War is over, but for petty criminal Charlie his darkest days are only just beginning.

Charlie Briggs is never off-duty, even when a botched job means he's forced to lay low in a sleepy Hampshire town for the holiday season. Always searching for his next unwitting victim, or a shiny trinket he can pilfer, he can't believe his luck when he happens upon a rare book so valuable it will set him up for life. All he needs to do is sit tight until Boxing Day. But there's a desperate story that bleeds beyond the pages; something far more dangerous than London's mobsters is lurking in the shadows.

Could the book be cursed? Why is he haunted by the horrors of war? Can he put things right before he's suffocated by his own greed?

With Fire in Their Blood

From the moment sixteen-year-old Lilly Deluca arrives in the ancient Italian town of Castello, she knows it is deadly. The town is divided by an invisible line, keeping the warring families of Marconi and Paradiso from destroying each other.

Lilly quickly falls in with the seductive, rebellious Liza, brooding Nico and sensitive Christian - who are all keeping their own secrets - and sparks begin to fly.

Then Lilly accidentally breaks Castello's most important rule: when the General's men come to test your blood, you'd better not be anything more than human . . .

The Carnival of Ash

Cadenza is the City of Words, a city run by poets, its skyline dominated by the steepled towers of its libraries, its heart beating to the stamp and thrum of the printing presses in the Printing Quarter.

Carlo Mazzoni, a young wordsmith arrives at the city gates intent on making his name as the bells ring out with the news of the death of the city’s poet-leader. Instead, he finds himself embroiled with the intrigues of a city in turmoil, the looming prospect of war with their rival Venice ever-present. Dread Wood

It's basically the worst school detention ever. When classmates (but not mate-mates) Hallie, Angelo, Gustav and Naira are forced to come to school on a SATURDAY, they think things can’t get much worse. But they’re wrong. Things are about to get seriously scary.

What has dragged their teacher underground? Why do the creepy caretakers keeping humming the tune to Itsy Bitsy Spider? And what horrors lurk in the shadows, getting stronger and meaner every minute . . .? Cut off from help and in danger each time they touch the ground, the gang’s only hope is to work together. But it’s no coincidence that they're all there on detention. Someone has been watching and plotting and is out for revenge . . .

The Beast and the Bethany: Revenge of the Beast

Once upon a very badly behaved time, 511-year-old Ebenezer kept a beast in his attic. He would feed the beast all manner of objects and creatures and in return the beast would vomit him up expensive presents. But then the Bethany arrived.

Now notorious prankster Bethany, along with her new feathery friend Claudette, is determined that she and Ebenezer are going to de-beast their lives and Do Good. But Bethany finds that being a former prankster makes it hard to get taken on for voluntary work. And Ebenezer secretly misses the beast’s vomity gifts. And neither of them are all that sure what “good people” do anyway.

Then there’s Claudette, who’s not been feeling herself recently. Has she eaten something that has disagreed with her?

2021 The Write Reads Book Tours Round Up

In 2021 The Write Reads had 26 blog tours. Wow! And I participated in every single one of them. Double Wow! I had a first chapter review for a couple I didn't have time to read for the tour and a couple of spotlights, but most were book reviews.

The genres are a wide range including:
sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, YA, horror, contemporary, middle grade, historical, and suspense with most books combining one or more of the categories.

A bajillion (that's a legit number, right?) thanks to The Write Reads for hosting so many great book tours in 2021. What an awesome way to find authors I know I never would have found otherwise!
