Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front

Sunday ~  Mostly didn't do much of anything. Some puttering around the house, made brownies, and Kyle and I made Russian Tea Cakes (Snowballs).

Monday ~ Anna and Kyle on OT. After the morning stuff, Trip and I picked up Kyleigh, Boone, and Oliver. We stopped at BJ's for sugar and some other things including snacks for the knee nibblers. Came home and put away the groceries and the grandkiddos took over the living room. I made us all scrambled eggs for a late-ish lunch and brewed some blue raspberry (syrup)/raspberry royale (bags) tea for the kids. They love sweet tea. Which reminds me, I need to get some blackberry syrup. Picked Kyle up from work. Popcorn chicken and crinkle fries for dinner.

Tuesday ~ Up at 4am to take Kyle to work. Anna went in at usual time. Went back to bed when I got home. Up at 9 to do morning stuff. Once everyone was up I made scrambled eggs, links, and toast. Anna home around 11:30 to pack and leave for the beach. Chris and his family left Saturday. Picked Kyle up from work and swung by Food Lion for a few things. Made pigs in a blanket for dinner.

Wednesday ~ Up at 4am to take Kyle to work. Back to bed then up at 8:30. Everyone else slept in. I roused everyone at 11:00 to get up and get dressed so we could get to the Minions movie by the 12:15 start. Got there in plenty of time to get popcorn and drinks. Home after 2:00. Had enough time to take the dogs out before picking up Kyle at work. Spaghetti for dinner.

Thursday ~ Yes, I was up at 4am to take Kyle to work. Yes, I went back to bed. Up at 8:30.
After feeding the furries and walking the dogs I woke everyone up to make breakfast. Yes, it was scrambled eggs. These kids love my scrambled eggs for some reason. I went through 3 dozen eggs this week. lmao Once everyone was dressed and had all the toys put away and gathered all their stuff we left to go to Five Below. Oliver had a $20 he was dying to spend. Kyleigh helped keep track and with tax it came out to $20.28. I praised her excellent mathing and donated the 28¢. We hit up McD's for their traditional going home lunch and they ate while I drove them home. Dropped them off and headed back the way we'd come to stop at Michael's to pick up mom's tapestry that I'd had framed. They tapestry was from a set that a college student named Lila had done about mom for a school project. I mentioned it in my 493rd Sunday Post but I never followed up with the photos and descriptions. I'll put them at the end of this post. We stopped at Food Lion and I had just enough time to put away the perishables before heading out to pick up Kyle. Trip and I did a clean of the living room. Moved furniture, swept, mopped, shook out rugs, washed all blankets and pillow cases. I probably should have dusted but I was just so done. Leftovers for dinner.

Friday ~ Kyle off today. Yay! Hot, hot, hot! Trip and I fed the critters and I refilled bird baths and tubs with fresh water. Cleaned and refilled feeders for Tiny Patrons. Started the 1st Weekend of the Month cleaning. Got a large Chewy order of birdseed. Wasband stopped to pick up mail. Nancy by after 4pm to do dogs' nails. At 6pm the power went out. I made a FB post about it so I'll just c&p. lol

So, the power went out at 6pm while I was in the middle of cooking sausage gravy and biscuits. The Duke Energy estimate was 10pm. We went out and fired up the generator and while we were doing that the residual heat in the oven finished the biscuits. So I whipped up the gravy then turned the range breaker off in the house. Unfortunately, the generator won't run the AC, so it slowly got warmer and stuffier in the house.
At 9:30pm Duke Energy revised the estimate to 9am. UGH. They then turned around at 10:03 to say it would be 1am. Stop fucking with my emotions, Duke Energy! As it turns out the power came back on at 11:25. Trip and I went out and turned off the generator, flipped switches and came in to wait for the AC to kick on. 81º in the house. We waited. And waited. And waited. Nothing. I said, fuck it. I'm going to bed. It'll either kick on or it won't.
At 4am Kyle came back to my room and asked if the generator stopped (he woke up to no noise - it's on that end of the house) and why it was so hot in the house. I said the power is back on but the AC didn't kick on. So we went out to check the box. The switches for the heat pump etc. were in the OFF position. I swear to you, I did flip them! I did! So either I was hallucinating or they tripped. Anyway, we clicked them back on and went in the house to check. Nothing. Go to the indoor box, all switches in the on position, not that the AC (or heat) is run from inside. Kyle says, "What if we turn the main breaker off and back on again. Like IT. lol" I said go ahead. It's not like it's going to hurt anything. He does. Less than 5 minutes later we hear the familiar intake noise and blessed AC starts pouring out of registers beginning the long slog to cool down from 82º to 74º. Yay!

Saturday ~ 4th of July. Year 8 without dad. 😢 Up at 8:30. Walked the dogs around outside instead of going up the drive to the road which I figured was probably too hot. Hot, hot, hot again today. Power went out AGAIN at noon and was off until 4:03pm. Gotta love Duke Energy using their billions in profits to enrich themselves instead of upgrading and improving the grid all while the area is adding 100s of houses and probably 1000 apartments, not to mention data centers. 😠 House got up to 83º which isn't awful if you're just sitting around with all the fans going. I was cleaning so the sweat was pouring off me. The only thing I couldn't get done until after the power came back on was laundry. I didn't want to run the dryer on the generator. Trip and I had topped it off with gas, so I'll need to fill the cans and top it off again. I got all the cleaning done and showered. Kyle grilled ribeyes and I made baked potatoes in the microwave. Watched Murdoch Mysteries for a bit then worked on this post.

Today Need to refill gas cans. Maybe stop at Food Lion for cookies. I need to refill bird baths and tubs of water for the critters. Will probably fill feeders and it's been so hot I should do the hummingbird feeders again. Not supposed to be quite so hot, but will probably be covered in sweat anyway. Anna should be home from the beach.

Stories Connecting Generations
Mom's Story by Lila J. Farris

My mom was adopted at age 10 and her adopted mother (not foster) changed her name from Helen Marie to Corrine Fern. She hated that name. And honestly? Her adopted mother was a piece of shit. However, she loved her adopted dad. Unfortunately, they divorced not long after my mom was adopted and she lived with the witchbitch. Needless to say, my mom moved out as soon as she turned 18 and had nothing to do with her. I have a much longer story about this stage of mom's life, but I'll leave it simply. I gave my daughter mom's original name as her middle name which is why I wanted this tapestry. It'll eventually go to Anna.

My oldest brother chose this tapestry. For obvious reasons.

My other brother chose this tapestry.
This is Carrots our first milk cow.

Lila and mom in front of her project.

Matted and framed. Just need to hang it up.
Ignore the stupid can light reflection at the top.
