Hello and Happy Sunday, errrr, Monday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ It's Daylight Savings once again. I hate this shit. At least we fell back an hour. We were up until after midnight finishing the bookcases, so that extra hour came in handy this year. Got up around 8:45, fed the furries, and walked the dogs.
Monday ~ Nothing scheduled for the day. Trip and I hit up Kohl's, BJ's, Five Below, and Food Lion. I spent the rest of the day moving things around.
Tuesday ~ Worked outside. Trip went up on the shed roof and blew off leaves and sticks with the handheld blower then I sent him on the house roof with the backpack blower. After that I gave him glass cleaner and towels to clean off the skylights. He did a good job. Then Backpack Blower and I repelled the Leafy Horde in Battle III of Leafageddon. Counter guys came after 5:00 (they had an equipment break down which backed them up for the day) to install laundry room countertop and sink. Leftovers for dinner.
Wednesday ~ Guys came to do backsplash and ran out of tile. Will have to finish next week and grout, too. They're also sending a crew out to address an issue with the floor by the pantry. It's very bouncy and I'm concerned how that will affect it over the years. They're also going to see if they can do something about the big ass scratch from bringing in the monster island countertop. If not, they will replace those boards.
Thursday ~ Trip had a dental app't in the morning. I dropped him off, went to Lowe's to get keys made then swung back by to pick him up. Stopped at BJ's to gas up the Pilot. Got home just in time to greet Thomas, the plumber. He installed my faucet and hooked up the plumbing for the new sink. Then I realized the sink was actually too small. In a panic I looked back through emails and did not see where the size was mentioned, so I called the contractor. She couldn't find it either. So we all dropped the ball on that one. I did say I needed it larger than 22x16. It's actually a little smaller than my old sink! GAH! Anyway, after several phone calls back and forth and texts, the supplier/installer was able to find a 28x16 that will work and won't interfere with the faucet hole. They'll just enlarge the opening and install the new sink. I had hoped for a bit larger, like 18", but 16" is acceptable with the additional length. I also unpacked 5 tubs of books and moved the furniture around in the livingroom.
Friday ~ Trip and I had our annual eye doctor appointments. Still two eyes each and no vision changes. Yay! Picked up Kyle's Rx and stopped at Subway to get sammies for dinner at the beach. Changed the sheets on my bed so I could come home to nice clean linens. Ahhhh! Packed up the rest of what we needed while Raul's guy, Miguel, did paint touch ups. After Anna and Kyle got home from work, Anna packed up the rest of what she needed, fed the furries, walked the dogs then hit the road. Pulled in at Carolina Beach around 9pm. Hotel parking lot was slam full. WTF Turns out there was some drone show that had just ended. By the time we unpacked the Pilot and I sent the kids up to the room with the trolley I found a parking spot fairly close to the entrance. Got everything unpacked, ate our dinner, then went down to the beach to say hello to the ocean. Took some pretty cool night pics then went to bed around midnight.
Saturday ~ Up at 6:25 for the sunrise. And tea. Trip was also up. Kyle wandered out a bit later. Then everyone got dressed to go eat breakfast at Kate's across the street. After filling our bellies we relaxed a bit then headed to Fort Fisher Historic Park to check it out and play some Pokemon since they had a multitude of gyms and spins. We'd been there many years ago when the kids were little. They'd since had some hurricane damage and rebuilt the visitors center. Really nice! We also found out it was the Kite Festival going on at Fort Fisher Beach. We beat the traffic there since it wasn't supposed to start until 11 and we were only going as far as the park, but when we were done walking around we could see the many kites down the road/beach. Weather was gorgeous.
We went back to the hotel to rest then Anna and I hit the beach. Water was a bit too cold to swim, but not bad for wading. We looked for shells and sat on the beach just enjoying the atmosphere. Then we packed up and joined Trip at the outdoor pool. He'd been messing around in it for about an hour. I put my foot in and was WTF! It's freezing! Trip just shrugged. lolol So, I worked up the nerve then jumped in. O.M.F.G. It was like ice! What a shock to the system. I got out then Anna decided she couldn't be the only one not to jump in. Well, besides Kyle who was up in the room playing on his Steam Deck. lol She stood there for a while then Trip offered to get out and jump in with her. I was absolutely not going back in. lmao Finally, I said I'm counting to 3 and you jump or I push. So they jumped in on 3. Anna agreed with me about the ridiculous temperature. So, after Trip took her to the middle of the pool to show her a dead spider on the bottom, we went to the indoor pool where it was SO much warmer. We tossed a ball around for awhile then went up to the room where Trip showered. We walked across the road to Carolina Beach Grill and Bar for dinner. Anna and I ordered alcoholic drinks. I didn't like mine so I only drank about 1/4. Anna got tipsy on hers. lol We played some more Pokemon, hit the Fudge Boat for fudge to take home, then ended up at the Arcade on the Boardwalk. Had some fun there then got a mocktail at the hotel bar, and went back to the room. Anna showered and Trip and I watched Harry Potter while checking the score for the Hurricanes on our phone. I decided to shower in the morning and by 10 was more than ready for bed.
This is why we go to Kate's. SO much better than IHOP. lol
Construction News ~ Backsplash and grout should be done this week as well as a flooring crew to check out the floor issues. New sink and re-cutting of sink opening in laundry room is scheduled for Thursday. Not sure when the electrician will have time to install floor outlets in livingroom or computer area. We'll play it by ear. Working with Raul to see when he can stain the front porch. Once the electrical inspection is done then I can move the freezer back to the laundry room and that will free up space to move more things into place.
Touching Nature: Nice Fall weather! Upper 60s/low 70s and sunny. Bottom is going to drop out Sunday night though. Brrrrr! Battle III of Leafageddon complete and I'm eyeing the field for Battle IV.
Book News: I've literally read nothing this week.
Don't Touch That Dial!: Mostly trying to get through the rest of Buffy but keep falling asleep.
At the Flicks: Nope.
Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, the Finch app - if anyone wants to be friends just let me know.
Randomness: I always feel like I should wash it anyway, but I resist. lol
Randomness: I always feel like I should wash it anyway, but I resist. lol
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Take travel-sized personal hygiene items to the beach instead of what you keep in your shower. The smaller items are so much easier to lug around. And since we know we'll be rolling in around 9pm, I pick up Subway sammies to take for our dinner when we get there. That way we can unload and relax.
That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.
Chirp
I picked up some today (Monday) through the Friday Freebie email.
No time to link though.
