Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front:
  • Sunday - Roofer came out and caulked the leaks. Still not happy. I helped Anna separate all of her clothes by type so we can sort what she wants to donate and what she wants to keep. Holy shit she has a lot!! Then hubby and I took out the 3 cubes (3x3s) we had stacked in her closet in prep for installing 2 rods and probably a shelf. Luckily her closet is really tall because it's part of the peak that runs down the middle of the house.
  • Monday - Found a new leak on porch roof since it rained last night. Other leaks still leaking though hubby said they might resolve. I called the roofing contractors we used for the skylights and gutters last year and asked them to come out and give me a professional opinion. Should be here Friday.
**Mom's app't with oncologist went well and she's set up with radiation treatments 5 days a week and a chemo pill daily. Her hemoglobin is back up and she hasn't lost any more weight. Yay!
**Power went out at 10:50 am and came back on at 3:15pm. I guess a car hit a pole or something. Good thing I had just stepped out of the shower and was drying off when it happened. Having a well and no generator means I would have been screwed if the power had gone off with shampoo or conditioner still in my hair.
  • Tuesday - Mom had a CAT scan to pinpoint *exactly* where the radiation treatments need to go. She got 3 tiny tattoos for it. My 85yo mom is now inked! Ha! She also met her Care Coordinator and they went over a ton of stuff. She apparently has a big binder to read and to refer back to. The big thing is how to handle her chemo pills and how others can be around her while taking them which Anna will definitely need to know all about that since she'll be heading back to Ohio on 8/21 to stay and help mom. Did I mention her chemo pills are $11,000 a month? And that her insurance company had to *approve* them?! Life saving meds her doctor prescribed. This country is absolutely fucking ridiculous.
  • Wednesday - Mowed and died. Again. Am I turning into a Winchester?
  • Thursday - Walmart order was an hour late, so I got the errands I was going to do next week done today instead. I was not mentally prepared for all that errand running.
  • Friday - Roofers came out and took pics. Said roof is massively unsafe. They are confirming what my eyes and gut have been telling me. We'll hire them to rip off roof and rebuild. ALWAYS trust your gut. ALWAYS. I made an expensive mistake hiring the company I did by not listening to my gut. I should know by now, dammit.
  • Saturday - I called the original contractors and told them they did a shit job and there were many heated words exchanged. They said they would come out and fix it, but it's too fubar and we don't trust them. Especially since they said they'd be right out and it was 5 hrs later I told them to just forget it. Hubby didn't want to even talk to them. We'd eat the money we paid them since I never pushed about the shitty job I believed they were doing and we did pay the balance due, so we'll have it fixed properly. Big mistake on my part and that won't ever happen again. I will micromange each and every project we contract out from now on. Also, I will never ever recommend Skipper & Rogers in Greensboro. We just want to put them in the rear view mirror and not deal with them anymore.
  • **My stepson and his wife brought the new grandkiddo out to visit. That was the first time we'd met little Lori. She's a bit over 1 month old and cute as a button. I have pics, but they're on my phone (I'm on my computer) and it's now late or I'd share.
  • Today - No clue. Probably relax.
Touching Nature: Hot, hot, hot. No rain. I mowed Wednesday and Trip did the weed eating. Other than that, just feeding my critters and watering my plants which made me sweat like a demon in church.

Book News: Not much to report here. I started 2 books and I'm enjoying them both but with everything going on I'm not progressing as far as I'd like.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Supernatural season 10. Also continuing with the Disney/Pixar watch with Anna: Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph Breaks the InternetMulan, A Bug's Life, The Princess and the Frog, Up, and Hercules.

At the Flicks: Not yet.

Cyberspace Playground: Still Wordle and Zen Match

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: ALWAYS trust your gut. It's trying to tell you something important.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. yes contractors are so difficult. I wish I knew good ones for each type of thing. My roofers last year were great. But other things were more trouble.

  2. Best wishes for your Mom's chemo. Having to deal with lousy contractors on top of that is just wrong. With everything you have going on, you probably don't have time to sue them.

  3. Sounds like so far so good for your Mom's treatments so yay to that!! But $11,000???? Yikes! Glad her insurance approved it and yes the whole system is ridiculous.

Wow those roofers were awful! So sorry you have to bring in someone else to do it right.
