Post-Apocalyptic
392 Pages
My Rating ~ 4 bites and a nibble
Zach Dawcett was eight when the world went to
Hell. Growing up in a post-apocalyptic world, he barely remembers things like
computers, television, phones and electricity. However, things in his community
aren’t exactly Stone Age and they’re doing pretty good for themselves. Then one
evening Zach spots a satellite in the sky and once again, things change.
First I want to mention that I beta read this
for the author. I’ve read the other two stories in this series so I jumped at
the chance to read a next one even if it was in “rough” form. I also received a
final review copy, so I can now state my views on it. I love it. The end. What?
Not enough? *sigh* Ok…
Jeff Brackett continues to entertain with his newest
addition to the Half Past Midnight series, keeping me firmly on the edge of my
seat and anxiously turning the pages. The post-apocalyptic world is described
in depth without being too wordy. I hate wordy descriptions that go on and on.
I only need enough to send my imagination off on its own and the author does
this quite well. The characters are well-rounded with plenty of depth and even
though this is a 3rd book in the series it can easily be read as a
standalone. My only gripe is that towards the end Zach shows a maturity and
wisdom I feel are beyond his years and experience, even within the world he’s
grown up in and he’s thus far displayed throughout the book, but I’ll lean
towards giving him the benefit of the doubt. He is a fast learner after all,
and has had a very different childhood than most people in the current US could
understand. The questions, dilemmas and resolutions posed towards the end of
the novel are so thought-provoking that I find myself still pondering over them
long after I turned the last page. If you like post-apocalyptic tales then this
is one that shouldn’t be missed.
Don't miss out on books 1 & 2!
These sound right up my alley. I'm heading over to check them out now!
