AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!

First the good news. The lovely and talented Linda McKinney has nominated me on Indies Unlimited (omg, I had "Undies" instead of Indies before I corrected it *snort*) for Best Review Site. My gast was flabbered! Many thanks to Linda for thinking of me. :) If you could help a reviewer out and go vote, it would be much appreciated. *puppy eyes*

Now, the interesting news and by interesting I mean mostly shitty. Ok, it turns out that it wasn't that bad, but it seemed like it at the time. The dryer would work for a bit then turn off. The Accord wouldn't start. Our cat Sugarcube appeared to have a UTI or bladder infection. All things that could be potentially expensive at a time when money is extremely tight.

I took Sugarcube to the vet Weds morning and had to leave her so they could get a urine sample. Turns out she did have an infection and needed antibiotics. I cringed at trying to get a cat to take medicine, but she's been extremely good about it. I wrapped her up like a burrito the first time so she wouldn't scratch me, but I haven't needed to do that since. It may be the extra cat treats I give her after, but I prefer to think she's responding to my no nonsense attitude. Yeah, right. *snort* Anyway, she appears to be on the mend.

So, the dryer...we took the back off Weds and cleaned it, but it was still shutting off after a few minutes. So Thurs we took the top and front panel off to access the motor and woah...I do believe the lint sweater covering the motor was the problem. Without removing the drum since we didn't want to mess with the belt, we vacuumed the shit out of the lint and low-and-behold, there *was* a motor under all that crap. Put it back together and it has worked since. *knocks on wood*

The car we thought might be the battery. It was 5 yrs old and they tend to last on average around 4 yrs. So Thurs we replaced that. Still nothing. Just for shits & giggles, hubby tapped on the starter solenoid and it started. Ok, so not the battery, but the starter. We decided to keep the battery anyway and picked up a starter on Fri. Since we planned on cleaning out the old shed to make room for wood that's in the new shed we did that on Fri with help from the teens. Changed out the starter yesterday and it started right up. Hopefully that'll be it for awhile. I can't take much more excitement.

Today we will be putting linoleum down in the new shed. That requires moving *everything* we've been piling in there out (it's a LOT, I must remember to take before & after pics), vacuuming really good and then plopping the adhesive down before rolling out the linoleum. When the adhesive has set then we can move everything back in. Again, having teens helps. Did I mention hubby & I have never done this before? Thank goodness for YouTube! LOL I anticipate this being an all day project and I also predict much moaning and groaning when I attempt to get out of bed tomorrow morning.

If you have read all of this and made it to this point without falling asleep then you have balls of steel and I salute you with my favorite local beer and/or my favorite Moscato. I might need both after today.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. Nice haul and aren't you both handy-dandy around the house. *lifts shot of Jameson* Here is hoping nothing breaks this week! Ooo and of course I went right over to the site and voted for you...kudos!

  2. Voted ;) We had to give antibiotics to one of our cats too, this week. Every morning, boyfriend and I would corner him into a room and try to catch him ! He never bit or scratched, though, sweet cat that he is. Good for the dryer and the car. About the linoleum, what will take long will be the moving out/in of stuff, putting down the linoleum is rather easy and fast. Thanks for the drinks and have a great week without any excitement ;)

  3. You have had an eventful week. My cat was at the vet a few weeks ago and trying to give her tablets was a nightmare glad you had more luck. Happy Reading.

  4. You guys are so Handy Dandy! I need to move next door so you can help me fix things, my husband was born with the I-can't-fix-shit-gene, I am the one to fix everything or just call someone and spend amazing amounts of money.

YouTube is awesome for helping out with the DIY projects.
I hope your Kitty is feeling better, I hate when the furbabies aren't feeling well, my cat is hostile so giving her meds is a nightmare but lately she hasn't been that bad if we have to give her any, she probably does it so I will just leave her alone.

Have a great week Carol! Enjoy all your new reads :)

  5. Love your books and what a week you've had! We had a similar issue with our dryer and vacuuming out all the gunk and haven't had a problem since so hopefully that's the issue. I intensely dislike giving cats medicine so I'm pretty impressed with how good your cat is about it. I think mine would remove my arm. Have a great week!

  6. I hope Sugarcube gets better. I know what it's like giving medicine. I have an asthmatic cat with allergies. So she takes a zyrtec in a treat, and has an inhaler. She's also our "prissy kitty", so I had no hopes of every being able to give her the inhaler without being mauled. Turns out she, she's a lot better at it than I gave her credit for. Cats will always surprise you. LoL

  8. I'm liking your books this week. Some I've not heard of before.
After all you've been through, I need a drink. LOL Took my car in today and after having it all day they told me to drive it home and bring it back tomorrow. Finally figured out it was a U-joint. Phew. Not to expensive to fix:)
