AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!

It is official! We have another teen in Da House. Jessica has moved in as of Friday and will be living with us until such a time as she feels ready to fly from the nest. Lots to do this coming week including getting her transferred to the local high school.

In other news, my daughter finished her Senior Project and rec'd a 97 on it. Yay! Our district is the only one still doing those stupid Senior Projects. My son did one back in 2003 for his Sr year for fuck's sake! Gah! I hope they abolish them soon, but I may as well try peeing up a tree. I'd have more success. Trip, my Sophomore, is now old enough at 15 1/2 to take Driver's Ed. Oh. Yay. Do you feel my enthusiasm? He said he wants to sign up for the March class so I'll need to be ready on Feb 17th to get his name in. Only 50 spots available each month. Anna said she'll keep practicing but will most likely just wait until she's 18 (this Sept.) to take her test. Then there's Jessica, who is already 18, but has no practice at all. I'll need to start working with her, passing on my mad driving skillz. I hope I survive 3 teens driving because my baby boy, Kyle, will need me to teach him in 2016. Of course, if I've gone insane by then hubby will need to step up. LOL

The weather has been so-so and on Weds we had some ice. School was delayed then cancelled. Make up your damn minds already! So, the Teacher Workday that was scheduled for the 23rd is now an exam make up day. Doesn't matter. Unless the kids miss an exam on Tues, Weds or Thurs they don't need to go.

Lastly, my week has been mostly quiet with reading and drafting blog posts. My February calendar is filling up quite nicely. Now, if I could just sit my ass down and write up the 11 reviews I currently have waiting, I would be sitting pretty.  Maybe I'll do some or all of them today. I'm also nearly caught up answering comments on the blog. I got a bit behind. In addition, I took a day (Tues) to add ALL my books from my review excel spreadsheet to BookLikes. At the same time, I tidied up the spreadsheet. Then I went to Goodreads and added my 2012 Reading Challenge books to BookLikes (150 of them), all with ratings and proper shelving. I totally had not meant to do all of that because all told it took me something like 12 hrs. *thud* I think it may be awhile before I add the 2013 books (270).

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. I've got about 140 reviews still to be uploaded to blog and Goodreads. I have the notes but never seem to get the time to write them out! Enjoy your books!

  2. I just did a spreadsheet for all my ARCs and Review books and I realized I have a lot of catching up to do but seeing it like that makes me realize I need to stop clicking on Netgalley/Edelweiss and spend more time reading.

Good gravy, if you don't go insane with all those teenages in your house you have some sort of superpower. I think taking in Jessica is such a wonderful thing, you are awesome and a wonderful roll model to all those teens in your house!

    Have a wonderful week Carol!

    1. I also realized how far behind I am. I mean, I *knew* it but I didn't *know* it. Make sense? lol I'm concentrating on my backlog this year. Less tours and less NetGalley until I make a huge dent in the queue.

I should survive. I hope. The next few years are not going to be boring. :D

  3. You are a busy woman!I do not envy you teaching all of those teens to drive. Eeeep.

It's awfully good of you to take in Jessica and give her a home.

    Stay warm and happy reading!

    1. I survived teaching my oldest son, but that was 14 years ago. Eeep indeed! She's a great kid. It's not hard to include her. :)

  4. Oh my I need more coffee reading about your hectic schedule has made me tired. LOL My hubby did all of the driving lessons and each kid passed and we survived. Now no more organizing..write those reviews then bake some cookies..we need cookies.

    1. Mmmm...cookies. Cookies are definitely needed. I didn't do any organizing, but we worked a bit on Jessica's room and I made Buffalo Chicken Dip. I totally didn't do anything I was going to do today, but that's ok. I needed to get out of my office for a bit. :)

  5. Oh wow, all those teenagers driving! Franky can technically start drivers ed in a couple months, but as long as his mom agrees with us that's so not happening. He's just not mature enough to be behind the wheel of a car. But good luck to you!

And wow, you were so productive this week! I need to do most of what you did, but I don't see it happening any time soon! I'm like 500 comments behind, for example :/ yikes! Have a great week Carol!

    1. I actually had a thought today that Jessica may be eligible for Driver's Ed because she's still in school. I'm going to look into it.

I'm not that far behind, but enough that it makes me uncomfortable. I need to hop to it. And I really want to get the 2013 books on BookLikes because then I'd be caught up. But not this week. lol

  6. Sounds like you got quite a bit finished this week - good luck on the reviews you still need to write! I believe I have about three; I just posted scheduled a couple. I'm almost scheduled through January, but I need to focus on February now. I don't have as much time to be online, so scheduling is key.

    1. I didn't get anything written today. Maybe I'll get them done Weds or Thurs depending on how much stuff Jessica & I can accomplish. :) I haven't figured out how to schedule an actual post yet, but it's on my To Do List. LOL

  8. I really enjoyed Ash and My Favorite Corpse. And you sound like your house is bursting with teens. Gonna need some place to hide and read to keep it together. LOL

    1. I'm looking forward to reading them and you're right. I have my office which isn't exactly hiding, but it's a good place to read with my feet up on my desk. :)

  9. You will do just fine with all your teens driving. Senior projects and show and tell should be abolished I agree. Otherwise sounds like you had a good week.

    1. I'm sure I'll survive the driving (pretty sure), but I may not survive the insurance bill. LOL

  10. I picked up My Favorite Corpse the other day too and as always I grabbed one of your freebies Ash as it sounded pretty cool. :) I hope you survive all those teenagers and driving!

    1. It does sound pretty cool. I hope I can squeeze it in soon. Keep your fingers crossed with the driving. On the plus side, if I can get one of them licensed then I wouldn't need to drive anyone to school. :D

  11. Senior projects? I'm so glad I never had to do anything like that. Senior year is hectic enough without the added stress of some BS show and tell going on, lol. Good luck with all the driving lessons coming up!

    1. Exactly! With Honors and AP classes, she was beyond overburdened with the stupid thing. Every other district has dropped it. Our district needs to get with the program.
