AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!
First I have an HVAC update: Financing was secured and the guys are coming Thursday to install the new unit. Supposed to be 94º on Weds and 95º on Thurs, but we know the weather people can't predict shit, so I hope they are exaggerating.
On Friday we were out running our usual errands of grocery shopping and our lunch date when something went 'clunk' on the van and then the battery light came on and the power steering went out. Turns out we were right by the place we use for tows, so we pulled in and popped the hood. The serpentine belt was off and one of the pullies was busted (found out it was the tensioner). We had the van towed to the place we regularily use, they gave us a ride home and fixed the van before 4:30 so we could pick it up. A huge thank you and shout out to Burlington Tire for how awesome they treat us! They go above and beyond every single time we need them. So glad we found them when we first moved here 16 years ago.
In other news: We're blowing through Supernatural. We're almost through Season Two and really enjoying it. We watch it when we should be doing other stuff like outside work and getting the tomato plants in the ground. D'oh! I've also sorta gotten hooked again on Anita Blake. I was only going to read 1, 2 & 3, but I couldn't stop and now I'm on 7: Burnt Offerings. *slaps self* I really will stop with this one. I have other stuff coming up in June I need to get read. Stop looking so skeptical! I will!
In addition: Last night we went to a Greensboro Grasshoppers (local minor league baseball team) game with 5 of our 6 kids, our son-in-law and our adorable grandbaby. They have fireworks after every Saturday home game (and this was the only one my hubby was off for), but I had no idea it was Military Appreciation Night. My husband and oldest son are Marines (now out), so it was extra special for us. The Grasshoppers won 5-3 and the fireworks were awesome. It was a fun night. :)
And finally: I'm rushing to finish this post because we're heading out to see Godzilla in about an hour. I've mostly heard it was really good, but hubby said a co-worker said it was crap. Poop on them. I bet it'll be great. After that we really will be working outside. Yes, we will! We will resist the lure of the Roku remote and the insidious Supernatural until it's time to eat the yummy steaks I have marinating and hubby will grill up to a lovely medium-rare.

I love the cover of They Say the Sirens Left the Seas and A family Story with Zombies sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt always seems when one thing breaks something else does. For us it always happens in threes. I am glad you got approved and able to get it fixed. I would die in 95 degree weather lol
Supernatural is a great show we missed last season because we switched cable companies and lost all our recordings but plan to catch up when the roku/netflix has it available. I missed those Winchester boys :)
I hope you have a great week and Enjoy all your new reads!!!
It is pretty nifty looking. :)
DeleteI know! One thing after another after another, but we muddle through as best we can. *sigh* I am so looking forward to having the new unit. Not just for the A/C, but for the lower electric bill.
We gave up satellite in 2009, so we watch everything on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu+. It normally takes us awhile to get through a show because we tend to watch only an episode or two every few days when my husband is off.
Thanks! You, too!
I hope the weather predictions are wrong and it's cooler than they say. I'm glad the van was a fairly easy fix and so quick. It's so much easier when you have a great mechanic or garage.
ReplyDeleteThis season of Supernatural was meh, I just couldn't care. I hope they get the magic back next season.
An Edible History of Humanity looks really interesting. Happy reading!
They've dialed it down 5º, so maybe it'll be even cooler than they are predicting. *fingers crossed*
DeleteA long running series (tv or books) tends to have those lacking moments. I think it's kinda hard to avoid them. I'm surprised that there are some shows, like the Simpsons, that are still on after 25 yrs.
It's Godzilla how can it be bad..lol I am huge fan of Supernatural and believe it or not have never, ever missed an episode. Yeah its like a standard appointment at our house! Congrats on financing and awesome mechanics! We had a few days that hit the 90's. Happy June!
ReplyDeleteI know, right?! As long as the special effects are awesome I'm happy. And it wasn't bad. :)
DeleteWe've stopped on the last 2 epis in Season 2 since they are parts 1 & 2. Hubby has to work all week so we may not get to them until next week.
Thanks Kimba! And happy June to you, too! :)
I'd heard people who didn't like Godzilla as well but my husband and older kids liked it and hopefully you will too. I want to watch Supernatural but the lighting is so dark I can't really watch it on my Kindle Fire and it's a little too violent to watch with the 4 year old around! It's on my to watch list (which is almost as long as my to read list). Hope you get your A/C in before it gets too hot. Not much fun especially when you throw in car trouble. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt was ok. Not spectacular, but not crap either. We enjoyed it. :)
DeleteIt is very dark. And creepy as well as violent. Definitely not something to watch with little ones. lol I hear you on the lists. I'm not allowed to die. My lists are too long. LOL
I like Supernatural, but I have no time to watch a long series. I'm still trying to get through Doctor Who. LOL I'm bad at watching shows that have lots of previous seasons.
ReplyDeleteWe watch an episode or two here and there. I think it took us a year and a half to get through CSI:NY. lol I have never watched Doctor Who. It's on my list. :)
DeleteSounds like a busy week. Steaks and a movie sound good, hope you like Godzilla.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it ended up being so. lol Steaks were awesome! Mmmm... *blink blink* What? Oh yeah *wipes off drool* and Godzilla wasn't bad either. :)
DeleteI didn't like season 8 of Supernatural, like a part of season 9 but I think they've lost the magic of the beginnings. Have a great week ;)
ReplyDeleteI worry about long running shows losing their magic. Hard to keep them fresh. Thanks and you, too! :)
