AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!

Well, this week has been pretty boring for me, as in there was nothing exciting happening. Believe me, that's a good thing. I did take Kyle to the ortho and he'll get his braces in Feb. We got the sibling discount since Anna had braces and Trip had Phase I braces (Phase II likely end of this year). I'm thinking that's one of those good/bad things. Good to get a discount, but the fact we've had two sets of braces already with 3 more (Kyle I & II and Trip II) to come is the bad thing. Our wallet says "Ouch."

I've been playing catch up all week with my reviews, finishing the books just as I need to post them. I have nothing pressing this coming week, so I hope to get all of the books for the week of 1/27 done and ready to roll. That would be so heavenly. :D I do have a guest reviewer filling in two days this week where I had nothing scheduled. I hope you'll check her out. :)

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. Ouch is right, that's a lot of braces. I totally feel for you. My sons teeth are to big for him and they said he will need them. Braces are so expensive I was shocked.

Snow White and the Eighth Dwarf I can't wait to see your review of that one. I love re-tellings.
Going to see if it's still free :)

    Have a great week!!

    1. They are! We're lucky that my husband has dental insurance that covers a good portion of them, but that still leaves a lot we have to pay for. *sigh*

I tend to get freebies and then forget about them, but that is one I want to read soon. *makes note to self: don't forget about this one*

      Thanks! You, too!

  5. Wow, I'm glad we only had to deal with one round of braces. You're right; they don't come cheap.

Good luck getting ahead on your reviews! I've been working on that, and it feels good. Now if I can just STAY a little ahead!

    1. I knew you'd spy that one. :D I loved Goodger's first book 'When a Duke Says I Do' so I had to get this one since I missed it in the Kensington email. 'When a Lord Needs a Lady' is book 3 though they aren't really listed as a series. I picked that one up at NetGalley. :)

  8. Braces, yikes. They might be in our future too. Summer Knight looks awesome, love that cover! Checked out your graphic novel reviews, nice to see that Red Sonja was good and Will o the Wisp looks good too.

  9. Oh braces. I had those. Not too fun, but the outcome was good haha. I'm intrigued by The Mad Lord's Daughter. Have an awesome week!

    1. I had them, too many moons ago. They weren't fun, but your'e right. The outcome was good. And they've made a big difference in Trip's teeth so far. Anna's only needed a little straightening on the top. Really, hers were more cosmetic than anything else. We could have not done hers and she'd been ok. Trip and Kyle's teeth are horribly crooked. They inherited that from me. Poor kids. LOL

Oh, Jane Goodger is a great writer. Go pick up one of hers. :)

  14. Sometimes it's just so nice to have a boring week once in a while. I usually like to finish my review books for tours as early as possible, but I was running a bit late for some tours lately. Still finished them like a week ahead of the stop, but I feel like that's cutting it too close. I don't like to feel rushed when reading.

    1. I love boring weeks. That just means I have more time to read. lol I'm lucky if I get my books read a few days ahead of time, but this past week was crunch time. I hate that! I'll get ahead this week though and hopefully that means I'll pull a little bit more ahead every week after that. :)

  15. I've been so thankful that my son doesn't need braces. I used to want braces so bad when I was younger, but my teeth were straight. lol - I'm a weirdo. Enjoy your books! :)

  19. I remember when all three of our kids were wearing braces at the same time. You're right about the expense, but they do have beautiful teeth now...lol. I really like the Harry Dresden series, but haven't listened to them. I hope you enjoy it.

    1. Yikes! At least Anna is done with hers and the boys are slow to lose their baby teeth (my fault, it's my genes lol), so we got a bit of a break in between. What I'm dreading is all 3 driving at the same time. 3 inexperienced drivers...I'd rather pay for braces than car insurance. *sigh*

I love the Dresden Files. I got the kids hooked on it. I have audio reviews coming up where they guest review. :)

  20. Ouch alright, I know all to well about the cost of braces and that's just for myself as my kids aren't old enough to worry about that yet. I'm sure one of them will need them especially if they take after me. Oh well....Anyway, have a great week and thanks for dropping by my blog once again!

    1. Anna takes after her dad. His teeth are straight. Her braces were pretty much cosmetic, fixing a little bit of overlapping and making it easier for her to take care of them. The boys take after me, massively crooked teeth. Why couldn't it have been the other way around? LOL

      Thanks! And you're welcome!

  23. Braces :P I am amused. I should have gotten them a while ago but we moved during that time period and everything kind of became crazy and then I sort of just told my parents I am too old to get them. That'll probably bite me in the ass later. :P

Great haul and happy reading!!! :)

    1. You are never too old for braces. While most of the people at the orthodontist are kids/teens, I've seen plenty of older folks, too. And my sis-in-law just got braces and she's 50-ish. Get them while your parents can pay for them instead of you paying for them later! lol

      Thanks! :)

  24. Ugh braces...I didn't mind them so much once I got use to them, but my wisdom teeth made it all pointless. I really need to get back into the Dresden books. I hope you enjoy your week!

    1. Mine, too. Though they anywhere near as bad as before braces, so...lol

I tore through the series when I discovered it. Then Kyle read them all last year. Now, we're all listening to them and we should be ready when the new book comes out in May. :)
