AVR News Update
I didn't have anything out of the unusual going on this past week other than my computer dying. We bought a new power supply and it's up and running again. That's the 2nd power supply we've bought for it though it's been a couple years. My computer is a dinosaur in a world of ever changing technology. It's over 8 yrs old, but my husband's laptop is over 9 yrs old. Eventually we'll get new ones, but they aren't even at the top of the priority list right now.

I did get a job offer to critique manuscripts and I accepted, but I'll save all the details for later (expect news towards the end of the month) when I actually start the job. I'll be bringing in some badly needed income doing something book-related. Go, me!

I'm researching RSS feeds and why are there so many to choose from?! I should have a way to follow via RSS sometime this coming week. I started my Saturday Shorts and I'm working on the graphics for my current features.

That's it for me. This is AVR News update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.
Shelf Additions

Quiet week for me in Shelf Additions. My trip to the library only netted me books for my son and I did pick up a few Amazon freebies, but they are pretty raunchy so I'll tuck them behind some other less naughty books, so's not to offend anyone. *winks*

  1. My comp could almost be classed as an antique too :P. I refuse to buy another while it still works though! Have a good week! My sunday Post

    1. As much as I'm drooling over the all-in-one touch screen computers I can't justify the expense while this one still works. *sigh* lol

  2. I went with feedburner - easy and no muss - and it's really simple to manage! Completely understand the computer bits - I need to start looking at it but I hate tech shopping!
    Have a great week

    1. Feedburner is in the lead for me. I'll make a decision soon. As long as my dinosaur keeps on keeping on I'll wait on the computer shopping. :)

  3. I understand about old computers though mine don't seem to last as long as yours have. My husband needs a new computer...his is doing some very strange things. So as an incentive for me to research and buy the new computer he said I could have it and he would just take my old one! That sounds like a pretty good deal to me! Have a great week.

  4. Congrats on the new job...looking forward to hearing more about it! My Sunday recap: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2013/10/sundays-weekly-book-recap-39.html

  5. Oh, I sympathize on the computer issues! Our computers don't last quite that long, unfortunately. We turned my old desktop into a data server, and we're all running laptops now. But mine is in the shop for the second time in under a month, so it may be time for a new one.

I love your weekly Time Turner feature! I've been thinking of doing something similar -- "Treasures from the Hoard" -- because there are so many older books out there that I just love and want to share. (Including McCaffrey!) I'm not sure I'll make it a weekly feature for a while yet, though.

    1. I never thought of that. We have several old towers. I need to ask my husband about it.

I'm seriously considering making the TTT feature every other week. With all the other reviews I have I need the day for other reviews and I don't have much of a backlog yet for the older books.

  6. Your new books look enticing...and I'm glad your computer is back on track. Computer issues can be daunting.

Enjoy your week....and here's MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES

  9. Congrats on the job, I would love a career in the book world. :( For RSS, bloglovin and feedly are big. You can claim your blog and add buttons to the site. Also blogger has an RSS follow/email gadget that let's people use all of the other options. I have a lot of peeps follow email through feedburner.

    1. Thanks! It's a small spot in the book world, but I'll take it. :) I'll look at Feedly. I looked at the gadget on Blogger, but didn't understand what to do to add it. I think my email follow is Feedburner. I did get an email about Feedspot which is fairly new. I'll figure it out soon. Hopefully. lol

  11. I just had to buy new power adapters for both my laptop and my son's within 2 weeks of each other. I'm treating myself to a new laptop for Christmas, though. :)

Nice haul! And congrats on the job.

  12. WOOT! Congrats on the job offer. I hope it works out well for you.

My laptop is 2.5 years old. I bought when my previous one died and the cost to repair was as much as buying a new one with no guarantees. I hope to have it for a long time.

For RSS, I'd suggest using the blogger option but replace FeedBurner with FeedBlitz, use blogger's email subscription option, and offer bloglovin. If you have any questions, email me.

  16. I hold on to old technology for a long time too. If it works most the time why spend money updating, right? I think I'm one of the few people out there with what I call a big butt tv still. It works, I refuse to pay for a flat screen. By time I do, people will probably be watching holograms.

Congratulations on the job! How cool that it's book related too- can't wait to hear more :-)

I'll look forward to your Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs review - Mercy is one of my favorite heroines, but this book wasn't my favorite, so I'll be interested to see what you thought. Oh and don't hide those raunchy books, some of us want to get them too LOL! Seriously, I shop while hopping through Sunday posts ;)

    1. We replaced all our old tvs (one was 20 yrs old) with flats when we redecorated a few years ago. I needed a bigger screen for my aging eyes. lol We did donate all the tvs to Hospice though, so they went to a good cause.

Thanks! I'm excited. I'll share deets when I have them all. :)

I think I liked this book best though I love them all. And the raunchy books, well, I guess I can share them if I haven't gone overboard with the one-click. ;)
