Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ Lazed around a bit. Folded towels. Then Anna and I went shopping. I wanted to get a 1,000 lb dolly on sale at Harbor Freight to move the fridge and freezer easier, especially on my new floor. Hopefully it works. If not, I'm only out $12.99. lol We stopped in at Big Lots because it's right next door and I finally scored more King-sized pillow protectors. Then I stopped at Lowe's for furnace filters since I just knew mine had to be covered in plaster dust. After a snack at Dunkin we got gas at BJ's then hit up Kohl's looking for pants for Anna's new job. Dinner was leftovers.
Monday ~ Anna had orientation at her new job, so I took Kyle to work and picked him up. Andrew and Larry finished the shelves in the pantry and hall closet and hung my barn doors. Guys were back to finish the flooring and shoe moulding. Other guys here to install the countertops. The island countertop is massive and required 6 guys grunting and groaning to bring it in which was tricky to get past the porch overhang and in the door (which they removed). As it was, they put a big divot in the ceiling. Raul will fix that. I'm just glad that was the only casualty. What a monster. lol The countertops look gorgeous! I changed the furnace filters and was correct about them being coated in plaster dust. Eeee! I vacuumed the grate covers, too. Plaster dust is everywhere!
Tuesday ~ Anna began her new job with a full shift, so she is now taking Kyle to work and bringing him home since they work at the same place. lol Same place that did the flooring is doing the backsplash. It looks so nice! They'll be back tomorrow to do the grout. Thomas the plumber was here to hook up the new sink, faucet, and dishwasher. The dishwasher works, but technically I'm not supposed to use it until the electrician finishes his part of the hook-up and it's been inspected. HVAC was here to install register in toe kick of island and my range hood vent/light.
Wednesday ~ Guys were back to grout the backsplash. Raul and his guys were here to finish up the painting in the pantry and hall closet as well as the base trim and shoe moulding. I showed him the ceiling boo boo and he was like, what?! How?! lol
Kitchen sink accessories
Friday ~ Raul showed up to do some painting touch ups and work on the ceiling boo boo. It needed a second mudding since it was a bit deep. By afternoon it was dry and sanded so he painted it. I worked on moving the mini-fridge (using the dolly worked great!) back to it's original spot with the shelves we had made but it doesn't fit right because of the shoe moulding. Oops. It's only temporary though until a tall skinny fridge no more than 24" wide goes on sale to replace the 2 mini-fridges. I cleaned the 2 front windows and the 2 in the new computer area. They were filthy. Then I hung the blinds and curtain rod on the front windows and the Halloween curtain. Yay! A Halloween decoration! We'll have to figure out how to decorate next year now that there's no breakfast bar to smother with Halloween stuff. At least we have the mantel by the wood burning stove. This year there's too much stuff in the way.
Saturday ~ Electricians here about 5 hrs finishing up. I installed blinds and curtain rod in the new computer area, wiped down the hall closet, worked on laundry while clearing out the laundry room. I did not get my usual cleaning done. I decided I'm not killing myself to get things done. They'll get finished when I get to them. I did change my bedstuff, did a ton of laundry, and finally washed dishes for the first time in my new kitchen. Yay! Then I worked on this post.
All lights and outlets complete.
Bluetooth light switch.
Island outlets.
Can finally use these cute towel holders I got at Kohl's.
Today ~ Anna and I need to do some work clothes shopping for her in the morning and I need to go to Lowe's to see if I can find a couple of cushy mats for in front of my stove and sink. Maybe I'll look at Kohl's first since I think we're going there. Then I need to defrost the freezer and the boys need to move it before I refill it. The handy dandy dolly should work for that. We need to move the mini-fridge out (again with the dolly making it easy) and finish up the laundry, so I can put the rest of the detergent and stuff in the hall closet. I may let the guys on Monday move the washer and dryer out to the deck or we may do it ourselves. I'll see how it goes. I also want to wipe out the cupboards that are getting drawers. I know Andy will be drilling holes, but I'd like to at least get the plaster dust wiped out. And I need to wipe down the fridge and clean it out. And I still haven't wiped down the pantry shelves or started unboxing food. Like I said earlier, I'm not going to kill myself getting stuff done. Plus, I need to clean my bathroom and the litterbox in Anna's room needs cleaned.
A Month With No Kitchen ~ Renovations started 9/15. We have a grill, toaster oven, microwave, and a plethora of take out options.
Week of 10/13
Monday ~ Leftovers
Tuesday ~ Subway
Wednesday ~ Domino's
Thursday ~ Domino's leftovers
Friday ~ leftovers
Saturday ~ Kyle grilled pork chops and I made Stouffer's scalloped potatoes in the microwave.
Sunday ~ not sure - maybe Smithfield's chicken. Or maybe Culver's.
The kids have expressed the wish for tacos as our first meal with a fully stocked kitchen. That might not be until Weds or so. Depends on how fast Andy works and how much of the kitchen stuff can be unboxed and put away. I can always buy the fixins, but I at least need my frying pan, glass storage containers, and cheese grater. lol
Construction News ~ I'm not sure when final electric and plumbing inspection will be. Maybe Monday. I know for sure Andy the cabinet guy is coming to finish the cabinets Monday. Also, the laundry room will be demo'd. Plumber should also be here. Tuesday electrician, and Weds Raul. Not sure when flooring, countertop or backsplash is scheduled. It's a small room, but Raul needs time to scrape the popcorn ceiling, remove trim from wallboard so he can tape and mud then sand when dry. Then paint. Luckily, he already painted the cabinets so they only need to be set after the floor goes in. As soon as Andy is done with the cabinets I can start unboxing kitchen stuff. Some of which is in the livingroom and the rest in the pod. Waiting on pricing from contractor for stuff I want at Wayfair. They may or may not get a better price since they have a rep. Four computer desks, three large bookshelves, and two beds for the boys. No partridge in a pear tree though. lol
Touching Nature: It's been very Fall-like and I love it. Friday morning I walked the dogs and it was 39º. That's a bit chilly for this time of year, but it warmed up to 82º yesterday and today.
Book News: Nothing to report here.
Don't Touch That Dial!: Some Buffy and Lucifer.
At the Flicks: Nope.
Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, the Finch app - if anyone wants to be friends just let me know.
Randomness: Truth! The things I did to keep myself entertained! If I didn't have a book I was staring out the window counting things, making up stories in my head, or bombarding my mom with questions. Come to think of it, my mom would probably have loved it if I had a tablet way back then. lmao

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I know everything is horrible right now and it seems like there's no end in sight. However, there are more people fed up with what's going on than those who want to keep going with the Nazi Regime. So take heart. I have this feeling that the shit is going to hit the fan soon and no amount of spin from the MAGAtwats is going to stop it from happening. Courage, my friends. Stand strong and resist fascism.
That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.
Chirp
Ok, so here's the thing...(my mom's favorite saying)
I bought a whole bunch of books this week. I mean, like, a LOT. There were sales on some favorite authors, some bundles, and freebies I grabbed. But it's late and I'm tired.
I'll link them up next week.
If you haven't signed up for Chirp's emails then I suggest you do. Go explore and follow favorite authors so you get alerted when there's a deal. Then you can be like me and make with the grabby hands. And I won't be alone in my audiobook habit. 😆
