Hello and Happy Sunday!

To all the moms out there and to all the moms we've lost.
Really missing my mom lately.
I mean, I miss her all the time, but more so lately.

On the Home Front

Sunday ~ What did I do?? Why do I keep forgetting to update this post each day?? Pretty sure I did the cleaning. Anna took out all the corner screws of her corner shelf so the boys carried it out to the storage pod in two pieces. Kyle took Anna's TV off the wall and her mounting bracket. Was that it? Probably pretty much.

Monday ~ The windows and patio door were delivered just as Trip and I were going outside to mow and weedeat. So we got all of that done. Woo doggie it was tall! I have mostly weeds and very little grass, but it was mostly done blooming so the bees and butterflies should have had a good go at them. Then we fed the critters.

Tuesday ~ Trip and I worked on clearing the small stuff left over in the gaming area and I cleaned the windows. Trip took all the outlet covers off in Anna's room and the light switch plate. When the contractors came I borrowed two 4" screws to screw 2 boards together through the cat hole in Anna's door so the cats can't access her room. Because... Today was the Big Day! The contractor tore out Anna's exterior bedroom wall to open it to the new addition and ripped out her carpet. Then they took the windows out of where the boys were gaming and cut the rest of the opening into the new living room. Perfectly good exterior walls!! lol I know, I know! I wanted this but it's still nerve wracking. I still have  few things to move out of the gaming area, but they aren't in the way so they can stay for a bit.

Plywood up until the patio door is installed.
Just to be clearer, this opening is just an opening.
The patio door is in the new addition and immediately left.

Wednesday ~ The contractor had the guys installing the windows in the new additions. He's holding off on the patio door until he can get the drywall in. He doesn't want to risk damaging the door which is fine by me. And they put plastic over Anna's window from her room to the deck (but installed her double window for her window seat) so they can go in and out it instead of coming into the house. Met with the cabinet guy and went over the built-ins for Anna's room and the new living room then went over the kitchen so he doesn't have to come back later when they start Phase II. I worked a lot on the computer trying to get caught up. I feel so far behind on stuff. Ugh. It doesn't help that I once again forgot to update this post as the week went along.
I'm actually standing in the doorway of the patio door taking this picture. lol
I reused the windows from the gaming area here and there will be a window seat. The TV will be mounted below the curved window and the built-ins will be around and under the TV. The template for the wood burning stove is just in the left corner, on the floor.

Thursday ~ Trip and I did some grocery shopping and got back in time for the electrician to demo the wires running across from outlet to outlet where the walls used to be. While they were doing that I was at the jeweler ordering a few pretties for myself. I'll share when they come in in about 2 weeks.

Friday ~ Electric inspector showed up and it passed. Contractors guys did some framing around the wall openings so the framing inspector can come. I worked on the computer most of the day because it rained Thursday evening & night and I didn't feel like getting wet and muddy working outside sorting wood that's under cover. I have a feeling it's probably garbage now and I was going to burn it but then remembered, hey, I have a dumpster here and I may as well use it.

Saturday ~ We filled the Pilot with the last of Jess's stuff, hooked up the filled trailer to the Pilot, put Ellie's bike in Anna's car, and drove it all to their new apartment. That is the last of it! Huzzah! Um, okay, that's not entirely true. Ellie's wagon is in the dog kennel (under the covered part) and when Anna went to get it to put in the Pilot she found a bird's nest with eggs and a baby bird. So, while it is serving as a Maternity Hospital it will stay here. Came home and unhooked the trailer by the stack of white oak milled wood so I can take the mantel pieces to the timber yard to be kiln-dried. Hopefully this week if they have space. Then I ran to Dairy Queen for some lunch for us. Brought it home, ate, then before I started the usual Saturday cleaning I hopped online and ordered Texas Roadhouse for dinner. That's Kyle's contribution to Mother's Day. Enough for dinner today and leftovers tomorrow. Nom! I finished the cleaning right before it was time to go pick up dinner. Perfect timing! Came home, showered, fed the furries, and now I'm working on this post so I can put my feet up and eat my nommy steak, mushrooms, broccoli, and mashed taters.

Today It is Mother's Day. One of three days of the year I do nothing. Well, if I can help it. My birthday in March was upset by renovations, but I'll do a make up day when everything is finished.

Construction News ~ The framing inspection is Monday. Woot! Keep your fingers crossed that nothing needs fixed and passes. Then the finishing work can begin in earnest. Shit. I forgot about insulation. Ok, if the framing passes then the insulation guys will have to be scheduled, hoping they are available this week. Then the insulation will require an inspection. After that, then the finishing begins. I don't think that means everything comes to a standstill though because if the framing passes then the front porch can be finished. Yay! Actual support posts, deck boards, railings, and the ramp! The back deck steps could probably also be finished, but we're trying to decide how to do the one railing that runs up the one side. The contractor is noodling it and I may try to find photos online as to how others have done it without taking away space which is what will happen at the top if we do it like the outside rail. It's hard to describe, but we'll figure it out. Oh! I have a picture! If you have any ideas for that "interior" rail, hit me up.

Touching Nature: It's been nice! Beautiful Spring weather in central NC. It did rain a fair amount Thursday evening and into the night. Trip and I were going to work outside Friday, but I scrapped that plan.

Book News: I got nuttin'.

Don't Touch That Dial!:  I watched Captain Marvel one evening and Iron Man another. Otherwise Anna has me watching Dr Mike, Legal Eagle, and How To Cook That, all YouTubers.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.

Randomness:  Actual loud snort came out of me.

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I use vinegar and baking soda to clear drains. I follow up with hot water I heat up in my electric kettle. If that doesn't do the trick I use a plunger on it. Plungers aren't just for toilets you know. They work on shower and sink drains.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. Renovations are so stressful! Bet you can't WAIT for it all to be done. Happy Mothers' Day, and sorry you're missing your mom. I have mixed feelings about the 'holiday,' as it isn't happy for everyone...

  2. It's so exciting to see the renovations. Could you put a solid wall / board on the inside from the bottom of the deck to the ground and then put a bar type of railing on that "wall"? Happy Mother's Day!

  3. I've been following along on your renovations and can't wait for the big reveal, especially of Anna's window seat area! I love that curved window over where the TV will go.
