Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front

Sunday ~ I don't remember what I did. Seriously. What the hell did I do? I feel like I didn't do anything. lol It was hot, about 80º outside. That I remember. 87º in the house though. So, I feel like I just melted all day.

Monday ~ Woke up with a sore throat. I really should have worn a mask at the Science Center since it was so crowded. Ugh. HVAC was here most of the day and installed the new outdoor heat pump and worked a bit on the unit for under the house. Apparently the unit that typically goes inside (like the one I have in my laundry room) is now too big to fit so under the house it will go. In addition, the closet where the old interior unit was will now house two stacked cold air returns and that's where I will change my filters. In the meantime, no A/C yet.

Tuesday ~ Throat still sore and now adding some nasal stuff. Did laundry. HVAC here all day working on getting my new equipment up and running. Before they left I had A/C! However, after about 2 hours, when the temp went from 79º in the house to 74º, it stopped dropping to the 72º I had set and the temp started rising again. I put my foot over a register and realized no air was blowing out. So, back to having no A/C. I didn't call anyone since I knew the guys would be back in the morning. I spent a good portion of the day working on Anna's room. I cleared all the boxes, bags, baskets, bags, and more bags from the floor. I told Anna her room can never get like this again. I will help her keep her new area tidy when she gets overwhelmed. Dropped Trip at the soccer fields to watch Kyleigh's soccer game. Anna stopped by after an appointment and then brought him home.

Wednesday ~ Still sick, but not stopping me. Did more laundry. HVAC finished up the duct work and the cold air returns, so their part is now ready for inspection. They fixed whatever it was that needed fixed and we have A/C again. Anna and Trip went to another Kyleigh soccer game.

Thursday ~ Still sick, throat no worse, a little more nasally. Electricians Ron and Michael came and did their roughing in, so their portion of this project is ready for the inspector. They will have more to do later, but for now they are off to do other jobs. I boxed up books from the shelves by the fireplace to drop off at the wasband's place tomorrow.  Wood for back deck was delivered. The wood burning stove guys, Jason and James, came in the late afternoon and installed the venting pipe for the stove. Which meant they cut a hole in my brand new living room ceiling. Gah! LOL It looks great though! Their contribution is now ready for inspection. Anna and Trip went to yet another soccer game. Tournaments are Saturday.

Friday ~ Still sick, but throat less sore. Nasal stuff picking up speed. Contractor's guys installed the deck boards for the back deck. All that's left is the rails. Trip and I did a bunch of errands and got some groceries because we've been stuck at the house all week. A good stuck though since things got done. Anna took Captain Kirk back to the vet since his eyes were red again. Well, not his actual eyes, but the skin around them. Vet said to up his ointment again and they're doing a PCR test. Could be allergies, bacterial infection, or something else. The ointment worked last time so now we're doing it 3x a day instead of 2.

Saturday ~ Sore throat pretty much gone, but nose is now center of attention. Up at 7:00 to feed furries and walk dogs before picking up the 10' Uhaul truck at 8am. When Anna and I left to get it we found out the house on the corner of our road and the main one burnt down. I later found out from a local fire fighter friend that no one was hurt and it was a structural fire. I'm going to guess electrical. It's the house that was for sale in 2023 that the wasband tried to persuade Kyle to buy. Glad he didn't. Anyway, while I'm glad no one was hurt (especially the kids), I'm not too sympathetic since they are MAGAtwats with some not nice banners in their front hedge. So, oh well. Sorry if I sound callous, but I am done with people like them. One of their banners says to trust God not the government, but they trusted government salaried fire fighters to put out their fire. Are they conflicted about that? I have no idea.

Anyway, back to my day. Got the truck picked up and I was not impressed with the maintenance. The low tire light was on and the guy said not to worry about it. But I did worry about it. So after we got as much of Jess's stuff loaded up (I overestimated what would fit because there's still some stuff, mostly oddball things, but there is lots of room in the Pack Rat to start bringing boxes and furniture from the house) I had the boys drag the air compressor out and I put air in the severely low tire. Wtf. Anyway, we drove the 40 minutes to Jess's new apartment, off loaded everything (she was on the 2nd floor, outside stairs), and headed toward home, dropping off the truck along the way. Everyone was a trooper. We are exhausted, but the bulk of the work is done. Whew! I'll rent a truck again to get the rest. 10' is overkill on what's left, but I'd rather do it all in one trip and I don't think one of their vans will be big enough and I do not want to make multiple trips with my Pilot and trailer. But we're scheduling that for May 10th, so there's a bit of time. Anna drove us home and then I turned around and got us Subway which we all devoured like the ravenous beasts we were. Then Anna and Trip went to Kyleigh's soccer tournament. I placed an order for Texas Roadhouse to pick up for dinner then took a little nap in my office chair. I have not been sleeping well, so I needed it. Kyleigh's team won (after they had been losing all game), so next game was at 5:00. Right before they came home for a bit it poured down the rain and they got soaked. They went back at 5:00 (now in dry clothes) as I left to pick up dinner. Kyleigh's team lost, coming in 2nd place. Anna and Trip had dinner and I worked on this post. I really need to remember to update this daily. I mean, I even put a reminder in my Finch game!

Today ~ So, we really need to get cracking on the boys' computer area and most definitely on Anna's room. Contractor really needs to break through her wall this week so the framing inspector can come and do their thing and we can get moving on the finishing up stuff. I think I can get Anna's room done except for dismantling her bed (it's a twin over full with a staircase). Which won't be in the way of the wall coming down. The boys can carry boxes out to the Pack Rat and some things from their room to make room for their table and computers. Then they can hook up the ethernet cables and they should be good to go. I anticipate a busy day. Kyle worked OT all week so up at 4 and that means this week, too.

Construction News ~ What's on the agenda this week is: the back deck railings, scheduling the inspectors, breaking through the walls. Depending on when the inspectors come, the insulation guy can do his thing (and that's yet another inspection), the front porch can be finished, and drywalling the additions can commence. I need to dig the old paint cans out of the small shed so the contractor has those colors for Anna's room. And the cabinet guy really needs to get out here to discuss window seats and built ins. Poor guy is always so busy, but that's actually a good thing. It means he's really the shit in his field. He's local and he and his dad design, build, and install. Contractor says they are awesome.

Touching Nature: Cool then hot, some rain, but not much. I think Ma Nature has been sampling too much of her home made hooch. Pollen has been awful and Kyle has been a helluva trooper when we had to open windows and turn on fans, but even now with the windows closed and A/C running he's miserable. Only slightly less so. Well, Saturday he was outside for hours loading and unloading the UHaul, so that was horrible for him even with some allergy meds.

Book News: I got nothing much going on here. I finished an audiobook even though my speaker I use for the car (Kyle's 2009 Civic has no bluetooth) is crapping out on me. I did buy more from Chirp and a few Amazon ebooks with some credits that were getting ready to expire. I need to find a new speaker I can use with my phone. I don't like earbuds, but maybe one that hooks over the ear? I'll have to look this week. Maybe at Five Below since we'll be in town three times for appointments for Trip. I have bluetooth headphones, but I don't want to wear something like that while driving.

Don't Touch That Dial!:  Anna has been watching How To Cook That with Ann Reardon, Doctor Mike, and LegalEagle with Devin James Stone on YouTube in the evenings. I really enjoy all 3 shows. I also finished The Book of Boba Fett and started Obi-Wan Kenobi which I have seen already. By the evenings I'm so tired it's hard to read, so the boobtube it is. And even then I fall asleep. lol

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Solitaire, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know. I still play Pokemon GO, but I'm not very enthusiastic about it anymore. I may just stop altogether, especially if Trip decides to stop.

Randomness:  I feel this so hard.

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Being patient is hard. I have very little patience and the amount I'm exercising in 2025 is massive. And exhausting. But I'm doing it.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

From the library

Nope

Picked up ebooks with some credits.

Chirp
Damn you, Chirp and your insidious emails!
Okay, not really.
I might have a slight itty bitty Chirp problem.
But how could I pass up 17 audiobooks for $51?!
Plus, I listen at faster than normal speed (depending on the narrator),
so I go through them fairly quickly.

  1. So exciting to hear about the house progress. I'm sorry you weren't feeling well. Might you also have allergies? I use Zicam when my throat gets scratchy which is the first sign I'm getting a cold or allergy problem. That usually stops it along with my allergy meds. I've been having some runny eyes so I had to use my allergy eye drops this week a couple times. I love Chirp and went through many emails yesterday from them. I try not to buy them if I can get them at the library though.

  2. I loved Remarkably Bright Creatures. Wow, the home is really coming along Carol. I am hoping the inspections don't delay things. That cartoon made me laugh. Stay strong!
