The Akseli
(Aldebarian Alliance #4)
by Dianne Duvall
Release Date: October 11th, 2022
New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the next stand-alone novel in a thrilling new sci-fi romance series full of action and humor.

Simone has hunted and slain psychotic vampires night after night for hundreds of years and desperately needs a change. When the leader of the Immortal Guardians offers her an opportunity to guard ten mortal women who are venturing to another planet, she dives right in and finds traveling into space and meeting amazing alien races just as exciting as she'd hoped… until an enemy attacks. Simone saves everyone she can before she's thrust into an escape pod and the ship explodes. Alone, fearing some—if not all—of her friends have been killed, she vows to seek vengeance.

Despite his fierce reputation and propensity for violating the law, Janwar has formed a friendship with strait-laced Prince Taelon of Lasara. When the prince's ship is destroyed, Janwar joins the massive Aldebarian Alliance-wide search and rescue mission and soon locates the Gathendien ship that launched the attack. An odd thing happens, however, as he and his crew stealthily approach it. The lifeforms inside begin to perish, two or three at a time in quick succession. Much to his surprise, someone else has reached the ship first: one of the very Earth women he hoped to rescue.

Fascinatingly fierce, Simone bands together with Janwar and his crew to search for her missing friends and wreak havoc upon those who wish to harm them. She also widens eyes, drops jaws, and sparks laughter and mischief as she banishes the warriors' world-weariness and makes each day seem like a new adventure. The friendship that grows between Janwar and Simone swiftly deepens into love. But the enemy warriors they face are tenacious and boast more weapons in their arsenal than the alliance knows. Can Janwar, Simone, and such a small crew vanquish them?

Aldebarian Alliance Series:

Top 5 Reasons to Love Simone from The Akseli

Hello! Thank you for joining us. I’m very excited to be here today, celebrating the release of THE AKSELI, the fourth stand-alone novel in my exciting new Aldebarian Alliance series, which combines sci-fi and paranormal romance. If you enjoy stories with strong heroes and kick-ass heroines, lovable secondary characters, and lots of action, passion, humor, and romance, then I think you’ll really like Simone and Janwar’s story.

Today I thought I would help you get to know Simone by revealing five reasons Janwar falls in love with her:

1
She delights in everything new to her

Simone motioned to Janwar’s muscled body. “You don’t by any chance have a protective suit you could wear to spar with me, do you? I’d like to practice with this but don’t want to accidentally impale you or shock you while I get used to controlling it.”

“I don’t. But T can spar with you until you’re comfortable with it. It takes a stronger jolt than these deliver to take him out.” He glanced up at the ceiling. “Hey, T. Are you up for a little exercise?”

“To quote Simone,” T replied, “hell yes.”

Eyes wide, Simone grinned at Janwar as she bounced up and down on her toes with excitement. “I get to spar with an android!”

Laughing, he shook his head. “You are too drekking adorable.”

2
She kicks ass

The woman’s clothing was torn in several places. Her skin bore multiple gashes and splashes of red blood. Her long, disheveled black hair shone beneath the bay’s lights. And her face…

She was beautiful, even with a scowl creasing her forehead and her jaw jutting forward in defiance.

When Janwar and his crew continued to stand there in what he hated to admit was dumbfounded silence, she arched a brow.

“Well, boys, are you friend or foe?” She spoke Earth English but with an accent Lisa had lacked. “If you’re friend, I’m afraid I must take my leave of you. There are a few Gathendien bastards left I need to slay before I steal their ship. And if you’re foe…” She swung her swords in a showy display, then sent them a wicked smile. “Whose ass am I going to kick first?”

3
She has a great sense of humor and loves to tease.

Simone smiled. “Have you ever considered that perhaps bounty hunters simply hate you because you’re so drekking handsome?”

Halting so suddenly that she nearly bumped into him, he turned to face her. “You think I’m handsome?”

She rolled her eyes. “Everyone thinks you’re handsome, Janwar.” She jerked a thumb over her shoulder, where she knew Soval hovered. “Soval told me that’s the only reason he agreed to join your crew. I even caught him checking out your ass when you weren’t looking.”

A choking sound accompanied a faint breeze that ruffled the hair atop her head.

Swiveling around, she craned her neck to peer up at the brawny warrior.

Soval looked about as appalled at the notion of checking out Janwar’s ass as he would if she’d offered him a plate of monkey dung for dinner.

Simone couldn’t help it. She burst into laughter. “Relax. I’m only teasing.” She gave his barrel chest an affectionate pat before turning back to Janwar. “He didn’t check out your ass.” She winked, then whispered. “I did.”

The corners of Janwar’s lips twitched. “And?”

She grinned. “Your ass is very nice.”

Laughing, he resumed leading her through the throng.

4
She’s passionate.

Janwar tightened his hold, pressing her closer. “I’ve never felt like this before, Simone. I’m afraid one day it will end, that you’ll leave for Lasara, and I’ll never see you again. But fear has never stopped me from pursuing what I want. And I want you. I want every minute I can have with you, even if we’re just sitting next to each other on the bridge, holding hands.”

Her eyes flashed brighter. Then she fisted his hair, dipped her chin, and took his lips a scorching kiss. Parting her lips, she invited him inside.

He moaned and slipped his tongue within to stroke hers as fire burned through him. Shifting his hold on her, Janwar cupped her tempting ass with one hand. When she locked her legs around his waist, he groaned and tore his mouth from hers. “Really? That’s what turns you on? Holding hands on the bridge?”

She laughed. “Hell yes, it does. How fast can we get to your quarters?”

“Fast,” he declared and took off running.

5
She is fiercely loyal to those she cares about.

She swiftly unlatched the seatbelts, rose, and grabbed her katanas’ harness. Plunging her arms through the loops, she rounded the chair and let the long, sheathed weapons settle against her back. The daggers she always carried with her—even on the Kandovar—already waited in sheaths on her thighs.

Simone drew in a long, slow, calming breath and released it. Feet braced apart, she faced the pod’s hatch, which was positioned high on the wall in front of her. Her toes wiggled inside her combat boots. She flexed her fingers and rotated her shoulders, not to loosen her muscles but because she was eager to dive into battle.

These bastards had killed every Lasaran and Yona who had failed to leave the ship before it exploded. They’d killed some or all of the Lasaran and Yona pilots who had tried desperately to defend the Kandovar in their fighter craft. And they might have killed her fellow Immortal Guardians if her friends hadn’t had time to reach escape pods. Maybe some of the gifted ones, too, if the reptilian bastards had captured their pods.

“This is for them,” she murmured.

The pod shook as a loud thunk sounded.

All of them.” Every drop of blood spilled would be repaid with ten.

Light shone down into the pod like a spotlight as the hatch opened and slid to one side.

Simone backed into the shadows.
