Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: Had a couple of appointments this week. Trip and I took care of the not-so-feral greenery on Friday. I was going to engage in battle with the Leafy Horde but decided to wait until today since we got a fuckton (actual measurement) of rain this week and they were still a bit damp. I may go out today and take care of the interlopers.

Hubby got back from his high school reunion on Monday. He had a great time. Since he left Ohio at 4:30am he was back in time for us to go have lunch at Chili's around 1:00pm.

Oh! I forgot to mention that Weds of last week hubby, Anna, and I went out to eat at Chili's for their birthdays and then went to the Friends of the Library sale. We spent just under $100 and came home with 2 boxes of books, most of them hard covers. Money well spent.

Also, before he took off we finished reseating the 3-person swing. Meaning, the material rotted awhile ago and we had some 2x6s on it for the seat, but those got some carpenter bees and then started to rot, so we bought some composite wood, cut them to fit, and zip tied them to the swing. Ta da! I didn't paint it like I did the 2-person swing we fixed up. Just need some new cushions now to make it more comfy.
"New" swing.

This is the 2-person swing. It was shitty green and I painted it blue.
Ignore those cushions. They need burned and some new ones purchased. lol

Touching Nature: Rain. Fuckton. Cooler temps. YAY! Is Fall weather here for awhile? I hope so. I have some shit to do outside then Trip and I will need to start cataloguing and sorting all of the books out in the Exterior Library.

Book News: I have nothing to report here. Sad.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Since hubby was gone last weekend I started rewatching Criminal Minds and Anna's been watching with me. Now that he's back we're continuing with Numb3rs.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Nope

Randomness: Fun fact: We have an inhaler for Nox and I have to wrap her in a blanket like a kitty burrito while Anna uses the Aerokat on her. Fun times.

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: The old expression "Make hay while the sun shines." is fucking stupid. Because only a moron would make hay in the rain. Never ever ever put up wet or even damp hay. Really wet hay gets moldy. Damp hay can actually catch fire if it's packed in tight in the mow (hayloft). If my parents even suspected the hay was even slightly damp (or too green) it was my job (I think I was 4 or so when I started) to walk along and toss salt out onto it as my brothers stacked it. One of a farmer's worst fears is fire in a mow. Is using salt an old wives tale? I don't know, but ours never caught fire and we never had a mold problem. So your guess is as good as ours.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. I love the swing! I hope fall is coming. We haven't gotten rain, but it's been cooler here, and some of the trees are turning a bit yellow. Or, that's just wishful thinking. :) Have a great week!

  2. I think you got more rain than us. I bought us a 3 seat swing when we moved here and we use it almost every day, we love it. I love being able to go out and work and it's not too hot, it's perfect. Now if I can just get my planter finished and the perennials planted.
