--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!
Happy Valentine's Day!

On the Home Front: Last Sunday around 8:00am hubby and I hear a loud explosion-ish sound and then the power goes out. The boys, Anna, and the grandkiddos were all still sleeping. I call to report the outage and the nice automated man says the outage is affecting 16 customers. So, my brain starts waking up and it hits me. The noise was loud and close-ish. It's only affecting 16 houses. I concluded the pole at the end of our road must have had a transformer blow thus blacking out our entire road. It had rained, freezing rain, slushed out the night before, but I hadn't expected a car to smash into the pole and fuck it all up. Which is what we saw when Kyle and I left around 9 to go get our Pokestop. There was no one in the car that was way down in the ditch, but fire trucks were there. Our road T's into another road and we live at the other end, practically at the dead end. In fact, we're the last house on the road before it ends about 500 feet beyond our drive. Anyway, the pole was completely FUBAR (fucked up beyond all recognition) and we figured Duke Energy would need to come out and replace it. I thought we'd be out for a long time when we actually had power back around 4:30pm. That was a lot faster than I anticipated replacing a whole pole. And guess what?! The car completely missed the AT&T internet box and somehow the lines were still working because when the power came back on we had internet! I know. You fainted, right? Anyway, the power was off for over 8 hrs and since I wasn't expecting it to be off I had no water in the tub to flush the toilets, water gallons to drink, or the kerosene heater filled. Ugh

Fast foward to yesterday...(because this week was mundane except for hubby moving to 1st shift and getting up at the asscrack of dawn)

Friday night it dropped around freezing while we got rain, rain, and more rain, so we ended up with ice on everything. Including trees and power lines. All over NC there were outages being reported yesterday but when I woke up and saw the ice on everything I ran water in the tub, filled 6 empty milk jugs for drinking water, did up all the dishes in the sink, cut hubby's hair, took a shower, hubby filled the kerosene heater, and I cleaned stuff out of the fridge. In other words, I was ready for the power to go out. Which means...it didn't. LOL That's okay. I'm drafting this Saturday evening before the Hurricanes come on so there's still a possibility the rain still coming down will freeze and knock out power. Hope not though. *fingers crossed*

Tomorrow hubby heads back to Iowa where it's so cold he will definitely have blue balls for more than one reason. Bwahahaha! Poor guy. Anyway, he'll be there for 3 weeks and then he'll find out if he can stay on instead of coming home for a week. He's glad to be home but irritated that he missed out on 7 days of training. Not to mention, being back home and not doing the work means he's losing his retention of what he learned which also irritates him. We'll see what they say in a couple weeks.

Touching Nature: 65 on Tues?! Ice Friday night into Sat. Rainy and cold, hovering around 33º.

Book News: Whittling away at reviews. I had 12 or so and now I'm down to 9. One of which has to go up tomorrow. Oops. Better get on that.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Trip & I finished season 1 of The Mandalorian. Starting season 2 this week. Also watched the Hurricanes. And while hubby was home we started Quantum Leap. lol

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Nope

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Live like a hobbit. Eat the food, nap the naps, grow things, party it up. I'll pass on the partying, but the rest sounds pretty good.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. About 3 weeks ago we had a car lose it around a corner on the street that runs parallel to ours which got airborne, and hit a power pole so hard it snapped in two. The entire block lost power but thankfully the pole was replaced within about 3 hours .. and the young guy driving walked away without a scratch!

I hope the weather is milder than expected, and your power stays on.

Wishing you a great reading week

  3. The Mandalorian was a big hit with my family. My 13-year old son, who does not like TV, even loved it. Happy reading this week!

  5. That's wild about the power/internet. I hope no one was seriously hurt, but yay for good aim! LOL at your hubby going to freeze in Iowa. Seriously, this weather blows so bad. I cannot wait for normal Dallas weather again.

I hope you all kept your power today! And good luck with those reviews :) Have a great week.
