--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

So, this is my 300th Sunday Post and my 1461st post overall. Whoa.

On the Home Front: Ok, so here's the thing...we (6 of us crammed in a Pilot with all our shit plus a bigass cooler on a hitch carrier) left for our Ohio trip Sunday (6/30) night around 9pm. And drove all night. Yes, you read that right. By the time we made it to my father-in-law's girlfriend's place in southern OH at 5:30am I had been up for nearly 25 hrs. Luckily, I made hubby nap during Sunday since he'd be the one driving because I never would have made it. Pro: no traffic. Seriously you guys. It was awesome. Con: no sleep. Ugghhh. Anyway, we all crashed for about 4 hrs then were back up by 1pm (still Monday lol) to visit and such.

We left for my family's farm in northern OH on Weds early afternoon and spent the rest of the day visiting with mom, both my brothers and my sis-in-law. The 4th of July was the one year anniversary of my dad's death. We spent the day trying not to think about it and keeping busy with yardwork and cleaning out the pole barn then had dinner next door at my brother and sis-in-law's house. Friday was party prep and some relaxation. Saturday morning was more party prep because we had a family reunion at noon with peeps from my mom's side (mom comes from a large family so we only had a small group of relatives who could show up since they're all over the country). Now you know why we were doing all the yardwork and party prep. lol It was super hot, but the rain held off until nearly everyone had gone then it poured. Ohio has had way too much rain, so we were happy it held off for us. Oh! Also, it was the 1st Saturday of the month and for the 1st time we were there to hear the tornado siren test. I can go the rest of my life and not listen to that again. Holy shit! Was it really necessary to run that damn thing for like 3 minutes that felt like an hour? My poor mom, bro & sis-in-law having to hear that once a month. Anyway, I think everyone had a good time and sweet Baby Jane was there a ton of food. Nom nom nom!

We were going to leave around our usual time Sunday morning (around 9), but decided we might want to beat the traffic. We got up at 3am (we are fucking crazy), on the road by 4:30am, and made it back to NC by lunch (12:30). I will say we did beat the majority of the holiday traffic and made excellent time. By the time we unloaded, unpacked, picked up the five furry dudes from boarding (a day early, can't hate saving some greenbacks), grabbed some fast food and sat down to eat, it had started to pour. Then it was torrential. Talk about good timing!

That brings me to this past week. Monday was spent getting groceries and putting said groceries away. Because we had to eat and we left the cupboards fairly bare this took awhile. We did a lot of work outside Tues & Weds (see Touching Nature below). The rest of the week we ran errands, played Pokémon and generally tried to stay inside where we can enjoy the A/C. Oh! Friday, Anna and I had to drop her Civic off for an oil change so we went and chopped off our hair. She got a cute-as-a-button bob and I lopped off about 12" for a just at the shoulders with some layers 'do. It's so light now! But I felt guilty for not donating it this time. I really shouldn't - I've been donating for nearly 3 decades. Besides, I hadn't shampooed it and you can only donate clean hair. So, I need to stop feeling guilty.

Now, you're all caught up. If you read through all that then I love you and I shall reward you with some pics. lol

Haircut - 12" shorter

Touching Nature:
Hot, hot, hot. Came home from Ohio on Sunday to see the tomato plants had a growth spurt. Torrential downpour happened Sun evening, so hubby had to fix the drive on Tues. He also did the weed eating. I mowed, vacuumed the Pilot, and weeded on Tues. Transplanted the peppers on Weds. Hubby finished staking the tomato plants. I do not want to do anymore work outside. Uggghhhh

Book News: I finished 1 book in Ohio, so I need to write that review. Other than that I don't have much to report. Well, okay, I'm like 16 books or so behind on my Goodreads challenge now. lol

Don't Touch That Dial!: Nothing the week of July 1st. This past week we managed some Psych and finished disk 4 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars which completes Season 1 and finished disk 1 of Season 2.

At the Flicks: Seeing Spider-Man: Far From Home today!

Cyberspace Playground: Nothing

Randomness:
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Don't have a bunch of frappas (my mom's word for unnecessary shit) on your car key ring. The extra weight, over time, will wear down the parts in your ignition switch and, if unlucky, will result in repair. Some people poo-poo this nugget, but every mechanic I've talked to said it has happened, so why chance it?

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  2. It is nice to have barely no traffic, but I'm not comfortable driving at night. Glad your husband was up for that. LOL Great pics. And great books I spy many that will be checked out further. And I just shared my review of Prehistoric Saturday. It was such a blast to read the stories.

    1. We've never done night driving. The lack of traffic was mind-blowing. We may do it that way from now on. lol But hubby will need to drive because my night vision sucks.

I can't wait to read Prehistoric! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

  3. What a awesome family reunion photo!
We prefer to drive at night when traveling too, it’s much less stressful.
My husband certainly subscribes to the theory about keychains. He keeps his car keys separate for that very reason.

    Have a great reading week

    1. Thank you!

This trip certainly opened our eyes to night travel. What a difference!

      See? I knew I wasn't the only one. :)
