Sixteen-year-old Leia,
Princess of Alderaan, stumbles across the activities of her parents as they
build a Rebellion and she wants to help. They do not want her to know anything
about what they are doing, in hopes of protecting her if the Empire comes
knocking. But we all know ignorance will not protect Leia from the Big Bads. In the end, as we
know by A New Hope, she gets her way.
I’ve always wondered
about Leia’s life on Alderaan and this story does a lot of filling in the
details especially in the years just prior to A New Hope. Told only from Leia’s
view, the writing flows smoothly and the pacing is pretty good. It gets bogged down
a little here and there, but nothing too irritating. While this is a Young
Adult book, Leia isn’t your typical teenager. She has her teen angst moments,
but for the most part she’s pretty adult for not being an adult yet. Probably
due to her status as a royal (with all the duties that entails) and being an
only child. After reading this I now understand how she was able to help lead a
Rebellion even though she wasn’t very old. If you are a Star Wars fan and love
the multitude of books out there detailing the Star Wars Universe then I think
this is a great addition and worthy of a read.
Nice to know what Leia's life was like before she became a revolutionary. 🙂
ReplyDeleteI was always curious. Now I know. :)
DeleteI've been meaning to read this one. I got it for review, but it fell off my radar---definitely need to fix that!
