Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front

Sunday ~ Did a bit of laundry. The weather is so fucking gorgeous out! I should really do some work outside but I promised myself I would relax. So, I took some snacks and 2 books (one hardcover and 1 on my iPad) out on my porch and read. When the battery died on my iPad I switched to the hardcover. I snacked, read, then dozed while listening to the birds. Especially the Tiny Patrons (hummingbirds). They are very active. And mean to each other. Yeesh.

Monday ~  The weather was still gorgeous, but the forecast is showing rain for the week, so I went outside and worked on the area between the house and ramp. I had leftover sand (from the masons, so that tells you it's been there for months and all the hard rain washed a good portion of it away grrr) and stone from the wood burning stove area. I saw a cool post on Facebook and thought it would be perfect for that area. We're going to build shelves using my milled white oak and leftover block and brick. Then we'll put mom's outdoor garden critters on the shelves as well as potted plants, cool rocks, etc. And at the bottom, Anna's Toad Abode. Anyway, I didn't think it would be too hard to throw the sand down and use the leftover flagstones. When will I ever realize that anything I think won't be hard to do, is definitely going to be hard to do? 🤣 First off, I didn't want to dig down below the vent that had several years worth of dirt, gravel, and debris covering part of it so I can't even get it closed. That would have been a royal pain in the ass to do. So I took the lazy way out and left the plywood board covering it and worked around it. My dad would be disappointed in me. His motto was, if a thing is worth doing, it is worth overdoing. Ok, I'm not sure if that was really his motto, but my brothers swear it's so. LOL Anyway, the board isn't hurting anything and when the shelves are up it won't even be seen. I'm good with that. Maybe at some point down the road I'll redo it properly. While I worked on that I sent Trip to weedeat. Oh! Before I even got started I used the Kubota to scrape the drive a bit more level from the crush and run delivery. Then I put the sand in the bucket for easy use. Once I was sort of done with that project (I still need to put my retaining blocks back in place), I had Trip use the Kubota to take the cans up the drive for pick up tomorrow then had Anna wash it (it was covered in spiderwebs, dammit) while I started mowing. After I picked Kyle up from work I showered and just as I finished, Hunter (contractor's son) came to mount my tv in the livingroom. Yay! One more thing off my list. I had Hunter do it because it's a heavier mount that let's me pull the tv out or swivel it. I really didn't want to mess with it and he does them on the side for some extra money, so he's more familiar with those kinds than me. Some things I don't mind doing myself and others I'm happy to pay someone to do them.

Picture taken Tuesday 8/5 since I forgot to take one Monday.
Hence the rain. lol

Tuesday ~ Steady gentle rain rolled in and the weather is nice and cool. Worked most of the day on the computer doing household stuff. I hate adulting.

Wednesday ~ More rain, still fairly gentle. Cool temps still, but the wetness is starting to pall.

Thursday ~ Wasn't supposed to rain today, but it did for half the day. A total of 5" since it started Monday night. Made 3 lbs of bacon. Didn't do much else. I feel like a slug.

Friday ~ Anna, Trip, and I did the grocery shopping. But first stop was the laundromat because Eevee had a day of nothing but vomiting on Weds and she decided to do her morning one, after I fed her wet food that had tuna in it, on my fucking bed which I didn't discover until hours after she'd done it. So. Disgusting. I had to strip my bed all the way down to the mattress protector and wash it all. The comforter is too big for my washer though. Hence the laundromat and one of their super washers. Then we dropped Timothy's birthday card off to him at work since his birthday is Sunday. I dropped my SIL's in the mail since her birthday is also Sunday. lol After all that is was finally grocery time where we hit BJ's, Five Below, and Food Lion. Anna rescued a Venus Flytrap (which she named Lorne - from Angel because he's also green lmao) from BJ's. She researched what it needed so after I picked up Kyle and got back home, we went searching for the proper soil and pot. That took us from ACE Hardware (struck out) to Lowe's. Success! I also picked up 2 bird baths that I couldn't resist and bags of soil for my flower boxes. And forgot to take pics of. Oops. I'll include next week since it is now Saturday evening and too dark to see them.

Saturday ~ Got up around 9:00, fed the furries, walked the dogs then hopped on the Kubota to do something with the leftover crush and run. I swear, this stuff is more mud than gravel. I don't remember it ever being so lopsided on the dirt side. It's typically 50/50. What a pain in my ass. Anyway, I dumped piles where I needed them and while I was doing that the boys came out to rake. After a bit I had Kyle take over on the Kubota while I raked and directed him where I needed it. Finally got the piles down to a small one that's not in our way. I washed the rakes and then put my blocks back by my flagstone project from Monday before heading into the house to do the cleaning. Put a bacon quiche in the oven then showered. I'm tired. And sore.

Today I need to measure Anna's windows and the patio door so I can go to Big Lots and see if I can find curtains, rods, and blinds (for the windows, not the patio door). If I strike out I'll try Lowe's since I want to get plants for my flower boxes now that they are filled with soil. I'll probably also look at kitchen light fixtures, faucets, and ceiling fans for Phase II.

Construction News ~ Still the only thing outstanding is the ceiling panels on the porch and back deck. They were supposed to come Saturday and did not. I am getting pissed about it now. I get that they are busy. But what the actual fuck? It's been since June 26th. My guess is it only take about 30 minutes to an hour to fix. I'll have to let the contractor know again that it is still not done.

Touching Nature: Except for all the damn rain, it's been pretty nice out this week.

Book News:  I sent Anna the audiobook images I needed for banners and she's working on them. So, I'll need to get started on writing reviews. Eeek

Don't Touch That Dial!: I'm still watching Buffy (they survived high school and the Ascension) and I started Angel (because of the Oz/Spike crossover). I have yet to finish CSI:NY, but I'll get there.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I need to practice this more.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. We got many of the same books. You are not a slug. Everyone needs some quiet days. You've had a lot happening so you probably need it even more.

I actually have a lot happening of a different sort. We will see how this next month goes.
