Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ *copied from last week's post ~ It's Trip's 26th birthday. Made French Toast Bake for breakfast and while that was baking we went to BJ's to pick up his cake. He requested pork chops for dinner, so I put them in marinade and stuck them in the fridge. Now I'm working on this post which I was too tired to finish last night. When I'm done I may finish the rest of the cleaning. Just an abbreviated version though. Maybe I'll pack some things up. Or maybe I'll just put my feet up and rest. My right heel, with it's wonderful plantar fasciitis, is aching. I still need to wrap Trip's presents, but that shouldn't take long. Right now I need to add my Chirp purchases from last week's post and from this week so I can get this post out. I can't pass up a good sale.
Monday ~ A rainy day and no construction going on. Rocky had a wellness check, some bloodwork since he's a Senior, and a vaccine. I worked on the blog and did some computer stuff. Otherwise nothing.
Tuesday ~ The guys came to do the stone for the wood burner. It looks great! Andrew and Brent framed, built doors, and installed them for the openings under the additions. I love them! Just need to stain them now.
Wednesday ~ Trip had a follow up app't with his doctor after the Urgent Care visit on Saturday. The doctor circled the swelling, told us to keep an eye on it, continue the warm compresses, and taking the antibiotics. He wants to see Trip on Monday. We stopped at Waffle House afterwards for lunch. The built-ins were installed. They are awesome! The window seats open for storage. And it's a lot more room than I thought! Andrew, Larry, and Brent worked on the back deck steps. They pulled up the temporary step boards and put down the final deck boards and installed risers as well as filled in the opening on the inside section going up. We had to noodle that problem for awhile (a rail with pickets, like on the other side, would look dumb as it got closer to the top and that open space had to be closed according to code) before hitting on a solution and the finished product is something I love. If the inspector says we need a handrail I'll go with a black metal one.

Thursday ~ Trip and I returned to the ass-end of nowhere to pick up the mantel pieces and on the way my battery light came on. Not good. When I got there I decided to unplug the trailer lights since my Pilot's lights are clearly visible, and the battery light went out. Coincidence? Not sure. In any case I breathed easier on the way home. Timothy will replace the alternator next week since that's actually not the first time the light has come on though it hasn't done it in awhile. Raul, the painter, showed up in the afternoon to get started on the last of the painting. Talked with the contractor about what's scheduled for the next week or so and then went over Phase II.
I need a piece that's 5' long and one that's 4'2" (or so). These pieces are over 7' each.
They have been kiln-dried so the majority of the moisture is gone
and ALL of any creepy critters should be dead.
Friday ~ Dropped Kyle off at work then went to Lowe's to pick up the ceiling fans I ordered online and put gas in his car. When he's up at 5:30 instead of 4:00 for OT I can at least stop at BJ's for gas instead of the Marathon by his work. I get a better price at BJ's and they open at 6:30. Raul's helper showed up at 8:00-ish to get started on the painting. Andrew and Brent showed up to pick up mantel pieces. They are going to sand the crap out of them at their shop since I don't have a very good sander. They will cut them the way I want and they will need about 3 coats of clear protectant according to Raul. A stray dog showed up and I called Animal Control. They never showed up. Anna coaxed the dog into our kennel after she persuaded the boys to help her move the stuff out that I had stored there. The dog seems friendly enough. When Anna was up the drive giving him water a guy rode up on a Polaris and said he was chasing the dog away. That some young guy in a white pick up just dumped the dog and the dog attacked his small dog. Anna did not recognize the guy in the Polaris, so we aren't sure which house he lives in or if he's even from our road. Artemis, Rocky, and Mr. Puggles spotted the dog when it was down by the house and they went ape shit. Since the dog is unneutered and unknown we need it gone.
Saturday ~ Did the cleaning while Anna and her friend Shelby called around to rescues to see if they could take the dog. We were advised that we could call 911 and report that he'd been dumped, but that seems weird considering it's not an actual emergency. He's comfortable enough in our kennel which is in the shade for the majority of the day and Anna is keeping him watered and fed. I was on hold with Animal Control this morning for over 20 minutes and no one answered. It's so ridiculous. We cannot keep this dog and we do not want to put him in our vehicle. First off, he is unknown and I don't want him in a small space with us. Second, he stinks. I guess he can hang out until Monday then I'll try Animal Control again. Otherwise I may be forced to call 911.
Raul came to do the painting and it's all finished including the access doors under the additions. He even sanded and painted one of the original doors that my dad made 24 yrs ago and we painted a battleship grey, now almost completely faded. That one will need another coat. He took the shelves from Anna's closet and the built-ins back to his shop so he can do those there since they are more time intensive. Which is not a problem and doesn't interfere with the floors being laid. He'll bring the shelves/etc. back when everything else is done and he does any touch ups. Sorry about the crappy quality of inside pics. By the time I thought to take them it was getting dark outside.
Today Trip wants to go to B&N and spend his birthday gift cards. We'll stop by BJ's and Food Lion to get some groceries since it was a busy week and another one upcoming. The rest of the day I may just laze about with my foot up. We'll see.
Construction News ~ The flooring is being done Monday and probably Tuesday. Unsure when electrician will be back. He's down a man and totally swamped. Hoping it's this week though because the contractor would like to get inspectors in for final inspections. Insulation guy should be by this week to finish under the additions and put down plastic barrier. Wood burning stove guy, Jason, should be by with the stove. I have some plumbing (pressure tank and filter) being moved from under the house to under the living room addition for easier access. He also needs to install my hose bib. The contractor's guys also need to build my generator platform and house for it. And they'll build my flowerbeds on either side of my front steps. The mantel pieces will also need to be mounted when they are sanded, cut, and clear coated. I think that's it?
Touching Nature: Still too much rain, but now we get to add humidity and high temps to the mix. Oh. Yay.
Book News: Still nothing to show here. I'm afraid to see how many reviews I need to write, the bulk of which are audiobooks. Eeek
Don't Touch That Dial!: Well, on Arrow Sarah is alive and is the Canary. The actress that plays her is ridiculous. I couldn't stand her lizard tongue the first time around so I stopped watching. Also, how fucking stupid that she's alive. Anyway, I went back to CSI:NY. Anna and I haven't had an opportunity to continue with Lost so we're still at the end of season 1.
At the Flicks: Nope
Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.
Randomness: Um...
Randomness: Um...
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Take this to heart.
That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.
