My Rating ~ 4 bites and a nibble

Abel Yeager survived his last trucking adventure and he’s living a nice quiet life with the love of his life and her son when his buddy Victor “Por Que” Ruiz comes aknocking. After earthquakes screw up the Sierra Madre region of Mexico and the drug cartels are making things more difficult for relief efforts, Victor’s distant cousin, a priest at an orphanage, needs help getting a truckload of supplies in. Yeager can’t turn away, so off he flies in Victor’s helicopter. It’s a dangerous situation, but Yeager doesn’t like it when bad guys hurt innocent people. As far as he’s concerned they can kill each other all they want, but put women and children in harm’s way and it makes him want to put the big hurt on them. Only this time he might not make it back to Charlie and David.

Holy shit! I cannot express how much I lurve Abel Yeager. I have the Big Crush on him. Charlie better watch out! Just kidding. I have a Marine of my own. *winks* There is so much to love in this story that I don’t even know where to start. There are multiple POVs that all come together in the end, suspense, action, bad guys, good guys, mystery, love and humor all mixed together to make the tastiest of treats to read. I had the hardest time putting this awesome adrenaline-fueled story down. I did so only when real life forced me to. Real life is an asshat sometimes. And omg, that ending! I knew it! I won’t spoil what I knew, but I will say I think I know where Yeager and Por Que will be heading next. Maybe. Maybe the situation will be resolved in another way. But I hope I’m right in guessing the next adventure. *rubs hands together*

My only complaint, as in the last book, is the fact that Marine should be capitalized and there are no ex-Marines. Huge pet peeves of mine, but the rest of the story rocks so I only deducted half a bite (star) for what I (and every other Marine and their families) consider the hugest faux pas around. I wanted my husband to read this story. In fact, I know he would love it, but he refuses to read anything where Marine is not capitalized and he despises the term ex-Marine, so I guess I’ll have to wallow in my post-read nirvana all by myself.

  1. Thanks, Carol. All I can say is you have great taste in books. My sincere apologies to your husband for not capitalizing Marine. As I recall, the line editor and I debated that and I lost.

    1. You have no idea how many times over the years I've pointed that out to editors, but they want to do it the way *they* want to do it. It doesn't matter that they're insulting an entire military branch. I wish there was some way I could get the point across, how very mad it makes Marines (and their families) to see it lower case. Marine is a title earned and well-deserved and it must be capitalized. It's a long hard battle to get that recognition though.

  2. This sounds great, so I will have to put it on my wishlist. So out of curiosity, if your not an ex-Marine are you a former Marine or are you a Marine for life no matter if your are in or out of the Marines? :) I know nothing about this stuff and could be useful down the line to know. (aspiring writer...lol)

  3. I have a grandson who is a new Marine. I think I understand what you are saying, Carol. But how would you describe a Marine who is no longer employed by the Marines? A retired Marine? Or perhaps even a Marine that has been dishonorably discharged? I am not an aspiring author, I'm just curious. I'm behind you and your crusade to always capitalize Marine. :)

    1. A Marine that has served 20+ yrs can be called a retired Marine. One who is out with less years would be a veteran. I usually say my husband and son are Marines, no longer serving. There is debate on calling dishonorably discharged Marines ex-Marines, but no set rule that I know of. I think it depends on the reason why.

    2. Thanks for the lesson. I really appreciate it. This is good information. Besides having a grandson in the Marines I have a niece who has served in the National Guard and the Air Force. She is currently serving in the Army in Kuwait. We are all pretty proud of them both.
