Gia Renyard wants a sexual fantasy weekend with
her hot coworker, Luke Monroe, so her friends help her plan how to make it
happen. When he’s in Vegas for a convention she shows up in disguise as Vanna
and seduces him into her bed. But will reality live up to fantasy?
The sex is hot, but the rest of the story is
lukewarm. Neither Gia or Luke impressed me. I really didn’t care about either
one of them. It may have been because the story was short, but golden boy Luke
and geeky Gia just didn’t strike the right notes with me. Plus, their hot sex
in Vegas confused me. How long were they in the hotel room? Just one night?
They sure went at it like crazy for such a short time. And if they were there
longer (like that night, the next day and night) and Luke was supposed to be at
a convention talking up the products why didn’t anyone report him missing? So,
if it’s just the one short night, Gia & Luke realize they’re head over
heels in love in just a few short hours. They had time for all that sweaty sex
AND hours of serious talking. Sorry, it just bugs the crap outta me. I had a
hard time with the timeline. Anyway, not badly written, just not my thing.
That's usually the problem with short reads :/
ReplyDeleteSome are really well done, but the timeline in this one just...gah. lol
DeleteSounds like the world building wasn't there... o.O Realistically, if you show up at a convention and are supposed to speak... someone would miss you! Sigh. I hate when short reads don't pan out.
ReplyDeleteIt needed to be longer and the timeline needs to be addressed. I was disappointed.
DeleteI read a Tawny Weber novel and it didn't impress me any more than this one did you. I doubt I;ll read her again.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably give her another try. Especially if it's a newer book, in hopes she's grown as a writer.
Deleteyeah short reads make you kind of hard to connect with the characters
ReplyDeleteSome authors do shorts really well. Unfortunately, there are more who fall short.
DeleteThe plot sounds kinda fun with hwo she disguises herself, although usually I am not a fan of lying or things like that, it does sound like it would make for a fun situation. It can be hard to care about the characters when the story is so short, but that's good that at least the sex was hot! The timeline sounds a bit confusing. I once read a historical romance were it felt like a lot of time was spent, but it was still the same night and for some reason that really bugged me. So I don't think i woudl enjoy this one. Great review!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lola! The disguise was really good especially for a hook up where she doesn't want him to know she works with him. Which would have been fine except she fell for him. Not a fan of insta-love, so that combined with the timeline blew it for me.
