AVR News Update
Hello and Happy Sunday!
While this week has had some challenges (I won't bore you with the details), I can happily say that I am now back at my own desk sitting in my own chair typing from my own keyboard and looking at my own larger monitor. Key words here: My Own. YAY! I need to order a recovery disk for my dinosaur and if that doesn't work I'll need to take it to the Geek Squad and hope my stuff can be saved. Because I have family pics, books and, Heaven help us, our book database that we've been working on for years and has over 13,000 books in it. I have the database saved on a flash drive, but it's not recent. The pics were saved on a flash drive up to August of 2014, but it now says it needs to be formatted. I was like W.T.Actual.F?! Where are my fucking pics?! GAH! I'm going to invest in an external hard drive. And maybe a back up one, too. As well as burning to CDs. Because now I'm paranoid.
Once I figure out Windows 7 Professional, which I'm told is not a whole lot different than XP (that's what I used for 10 years) then I can start writing up the reviews for the books I finished. I totally hate change. I haven't upgraded my dumbphone (not a smartphone, but a step up from a flip phone) because I didn't want to learn a whole new phone.
In other news, my birthday was Thursday. It was a rainy rainy day and I spent the majority of it having myself a Buffy the Vampire Slayer marathon. I hogged the living room all day and evening until about 1:30am. My poor teens. They must have been jonesing for some Xbox. lol And I didn't have to cook dinner because Domino's delivers. Hubby had to work, but all in all it was a great day. :) Today I'm going to rearrange my counters to find a place to put my new toaster oven. It's going to be a challenge for sure, but I've been meaning to do something different with them and this is as good an excuse as any to get it done.
And finally some 411, I've been on tsu for awhile now though I'm not really on there all that often. I haven't figured it out yet, so I tend to forget about it. That's why I haven't mentioned it already. lol

From the library
Nada
I got nuthin' to add here.
But I'm back in action so next week I should have some books to show.
Good luck with recovering your computer stuff! I hope it won't be a problem.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I still need to order the disk. I've been distracted lately. lol
DeleteThanks!
You need Dropbox for pictures and stuff. I love it and can access it from anywhere. Also when you are at Best Buy buy a Back-up drive. You connect it once a week and save everything.
ReplyDeleteI have a Dropbox account, but have rarely used it. I totally need a back up drive though.
DeleteI am as paranoid as you, I have an external and make sure all my pictures are in the cloud for Mac and on a ton of USB drives. they have really big ones now. I need another external to put more stuff on and will get it when my birthday comes up in May since my mom give me money lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! I Buffy marathon is a perfect way to spend it!!!
I think Amazon has something about pics on the Cloud now for Prime members. I need to look into it.
DeleteThank you! It was awesome! :D
WOOT! Welcome back! It's so nice to have your own computer. But EEEK on maybe losing all your photos and book database. I second DropBox, it's handy.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
I have my own computer again, but I've been so totally obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer that I haven't been around much. lol I need to go back to Dropbox and look at it again. And EEEEK is the correct word.
DeleteThanks!
Yay for getting your computer! I miss 7. Windows 8 is beastly for me. Acks about the photos and book list. That would so make a girl need cake. A lot of cake. Hope yall are able to get info back!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm...cake. I still need to order my disk. Damn distractions.
DeleteHere's to recovering your content. I have a super computer guru that helps when things go wiggy for me. And Happy Birthday. A whole day of Buffy sounds great to me.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/03/22/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-102-and-the-sunday-post/
My husband can do a lot of stuff when it comes to computers, so when I get my recovery disk I'm hoping he can retrieve the info. *fingers crossed*
DeleteHappy birthday !! A Buffy marathon is a good way to celebrate and the youth can use some vacation from the X-box :p Have fun with your new computer, I hope you'll be able to recover your database and pictures - I'm paranoid too and have recorded mine on an external memory drive too. Have a great week ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! And my marathons have been a continuing thing. My famliy is ready for an intervention. lol
DeleteYay, you got your own computer now! I know that had to be tough having your computer broken. I hope you are able to get your info off your old one.
ReplyDeleteStormi
Books, Movies, Reviews, Oh my!
It's been so nice having my own again. :) Still need the disk, but hoping it'll work out. *fingers crossed*
DeleteA Buffy dvd marathon with pizza-sounds pretty perfect to me! Last night I had a Godfather dvd night with chocolate which was also pretty darn good! As for computers, I know the minimum required to use it and other than my ereaders, I avoid gadgets like smart phones-I don't need the extra hassle!
ReplyDeleteI've been watching it on Netflix, but I have expressed my desire to have the whole series on DVD. Maybe I'll get it for Christmas. You know, I've never seen the Godfather movies. I should watch those one of these days. With chocolate. :)
