Hailee
Hart thinks she’s just a simple girl from a down-to-earth background. She’s
smarter than average and school comes easy to her, but she doesn’t think she’s
anything special. When she goes away to college she finds out that’s not the
case. At all. When super beautiful Alex wants to hang out with her, she doubts
herself and him, but decides to go with the flow. Then things go to Hell in a
hand basket and all she wants to do is run home and return to being Hailee
Nothing Special. Unfortunately for her, that’s not going to be possible.
I
had such high hopes for this book. There’s a mystery about Hailee and Alex for
a good portion of the book, but that’s about it. The writing is choppy and
sloppy in parts. Another round with a proofreader would have helped, I hope,
with missing words, extra words and homophones. And it seems lately that every
book I read uses ‘shutter’ when the proper word is ‘shudder.’ It drives me
crazy!
Hailee
spends a good portion of this book running away to her room or someplace else
where she can cry, pout or throw a tantrum. The characters of Alex and Seth are
shallow and for being 1000s of years old they act like adolescents. All of the
characters in this book are beyond annoying and unrealistic. Their actions are
way off and their powers are never really explained. This story skims, skips
and is generally non-informative. Everyone keeps secrets from Hailee and after
getting angry she completely forgives them. This happens over and over again. I
can’t stand her. She has no spine. She takes no responsibility for herself and
she’s most annoying. Since this story is told from her POV that’s a problem for
me. I have no desire to continue with this series. I really don’t care what
happens to any of them.
The shutter/ahudder mix-up would drive me crazy! That's the sort kd thing editors are supposed to catch, right?
ReplyDeleteIt drives me nuts! An editor or proofreader should have caught that as well as some other issues.
DeleteIt sounds really annoying, so thanks for the warning !
