Sebastien Newcombe still had a
hard time believing he was an Immortal Guardian and not a vampire. He was used
to doing things his way and he was a bit of a smart ass, so he was having a
hard time fitting into the ranks. Of course, leading a vampire uprising,
kidnapping Sarah and trying to kill Roland not to mention the fact that he had
killed Ewen, a beloved Guardian, many years previously certainly didn’t help
his popularity. He was hated among his own kind and the vampires called him
Bastien the Betrayer because he joined the Guardians. He was alone. Or so he
thought.
Dr. Melanie Lipton had worked for
the Network since graduating medical school. She was trying desperately to find
a cure for the vampire virus, so that those infected wouldn't go mad and have to
be destroyed. She worked closely with two vampires that had once served under
Bastien, so when he came to visit she was in close proximity to him and his
yummy body. But more than that she saw how he cared about these vampires and
how he wanted them to get better. Unlike the Immortal Guardians who had been
destroying vampires for millennia, Bastien felt they could be saved. At least,
until the madness overtook their reason and he, more than any Guardian, wanted
Melanie to find a cure.
Bastien is fighting his
attraction to Melanie because he doesn’t feel worthy of her, but Melanie isn’t
going to have any of that. She wants to explore their attraction. She believes
he’s an honorable man which means she’ll have to use her intellect and feminine
wiles to get her way. Which stubborn person will win this battle? It’ll be fun
to see!
Can I say how much I love this
series? I do!! The story flows smoothly, the plot is engaging, the characters
interesting. I love the interaction between all of the characters and it’s like
sitting around with a bunch of friends as they pick and tease each other. Some
things get solved and other mysteries pop up. I can’t wait for the next
installment in the series! I’m hoping it’s Richart’s book.
