--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: Eating healthy is expensive and time consuming when you have to read each and every label. But we're slowly getting the hang of it. And we finally got the call from the diabetes counselor, so we'll be seeing her on Weds. She's also supposed to be getting hubby a tester and she'll show us how to use it. I hope the things we've been doing have lowered my hubby's sugar and maybe I can lose some weight, too. He said his dry mouth has gone away, so I'm fairly confident we're on the right track. You want to know what's the hardest part about all this? The serving sizes. Sweet Bejayzus! It's mind-boggling how much we've been consuming! *faints*

I want to thank everyone for their comments. I've been a bad blogging friend by not responding or visiting, but these last two weeks have been consumed with making sure I have my husband around for a good long time. I haven't even read a book (that's not a cookbook) in two weeks! On top of that, money is really, really tight. I'm definitely feeling stressed. But I think we may be over the worst of the hump and I'm hoping to get back to reading and visiting again next week.

Touching Nature: We touched it quite vigorously yesterday and we're sore but satisfied today.

Book News: Currently 13 books behind and I haven't drafted a single post. I'm glad now that I read all those graphic novels last year and kept them in reserve. I apologize in advance that most of May will be graphic novel reviews. LOL

Don't Touch That Dial!: We finished Season 7 of our Supernatural rewatch and have started Season 8. Other than that, nada.

At the Flicks: Nope. Not yet.

Cyberspace Playground: Nada

Randomness:

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. I am sorry to hear about your struggles! It must be pricey and time consuming to read every label and think twice about everything you eat, but I hope your husband his health is improving. I am also in a money is tight situation and I know how stressing it can be. I hope things get better for you soon!

I got The Curse of Lord Stanstead this week as I had heard good things about that series. I already have read and enjoyed The dwellers saga, but also grabbed it for my kindle app now. I hope you'll have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Lola! We're getting there. I know once we figure out what he can and shouldn't have we'll be back to speeding through the grocery shopping. lol It's making the $$ stretch that is probably the hardest part. Well, that and serving sizes. :)

I'm looking forward to reading the freebies. Now, just need to find time. :D

  2. Sorry to hear about your husband's diabetes. It's hard and takes a lot of lifestyle changes and willpower.
Make sure to take care of yourself as well!

    1. The changes aren't as bad as I thought they'd be. It's the serving sizes and food pairings we need to work on as well as finding recipes that are diabetic friendly. I hate to cook, but love collecting recipes. Weird, I know. LOL

  3. Enjoy your reading...and I know what you mean about how time-consuming it is to shop and prepare healthy foods. Good luck!

    1. I hope to get some reading done this week. :) I'll be happy when we can settle back into a cooking/meal routine. I truly hate to cook, but now I have to learn new recipes. *sigh* But we'll get there. :)

  4. It sounds like a struggle and eating healthy is expensive but I hope you manage to sort our portions (small portions do come as a shock!!)and enjoy making the changes.

    1. It's a struggle, but one worth it in the end. Or it better be, right? LOL

I can't wait to read that one. It looks like it's going to be fun. :)

  5. Sorry to hear about you struggles. I know it is expensive. I've tried to cut back on the amount of added (i.e. process sugar) from my diet. You would be amazed at the amount sugar that is in everything. I spent a lot of time reading labels. Good luck on all your life changes. I know that they're hard, but they will be worth it in the long run.

    1. Hey! We can make changes together. A Buddy Change. :D Our biggest dumpage of sugar was in drinks, like pop, juice and lemonade. And sweet tea for me. Then there was exchanging white flour for whole grains. After that was sugary treats like cookies, ice cream and the like. Other than that we just need to work on serving sizes and food pairings. We're slowly getting the hang of it though. And the diabetic counselor said that sweets aren't off the menu completely. Once we have a good handle on how his body is managing the carbs then we can add small treats back in. Yay!

  6. I should start following suit of you and your husband. I can understand how time-consuming it can be. I hope you'll be sharing some of the changes (and recipes) on your blog. I hope this week brings a lighter load!

    1. It can be. We used to speed through the grocery store, now we have to stop and check labels. Plus, I never really had a menu ahead of time, so now I need to do that in order to have the ingredients for meals. Also, we used to shop every two weeks becasue that's when payday is, but now that we're eating more fresh produce we have to go weekly to get that since it doesn't last. It's one of the big adjustments we're still working on. That's a good idea, to share the changes. I think I'll do up a post of how it's going so far. Thanks for the idea! :)

  7. It is truly expensive! I am sure you will lose some weight. Eating heatlhy will benefit everyone in your household but it's hard to get use too. We still struggle. Dad is horrid and he is the one with Diabetes! He still wants his carbs, eat his sweets but he does try. Since I am trying to lose weight he pretty much has no choice but to eat the heathier things I feed him and boy portion sizes...I feel like I am starving...but I am sure I will get use to it. Though I am some times very surprised by how much we all over eat not looking at portions.

    Good luck!

    1. The portion sizes are like...wow. lol You have to fill up on veggies and fiber to feel full. We're still working on that, but we'll get there. And I'm really hoping to lose weight. I'm not losing much yet, but then I'm still eating some of the "bad" foods in the house. I can't stand the thought of throwing it away and wasting money. Though the kids are helping with some of it. Once it's gone though, watch out. :)

  8. It really is expensive, but you adapt and there are a lot of foods you can consume to fill you..like veggies and some fruits. I have The Curse of Lord Stanstead and need to read it..enjoy and have a happy, healthy week!

    1. He has to watch his fruit intake because even though a lot of it has fiber it also has carbs. But he can have lots of veggies. Well, most veggies. The starchy ones he has to be careful. But I see more salads in our future and we like salads. :)

  9. You are so right about eating healthy! But it is better I guess. :-) I tried the Buffy comics, but just didn't get into them as much as I loved the show. Have a great week!

    1. It's definitely better. :)

I loved the show, too. The comics have been hit or miss with me. Especially Season 8. blerg 9 wasn't too bad though. I've only read the first one of Season 10. And most of the "Spike" ones and some of "Angel" and "Angel & Faith."
